Name Rants

The stress of having a baby at the same time as so many other people has turned me into a horrible person. I found out the name that someone else in our sphere is going with, and actually blurted out loud “Oh thank [name_m]God[/name_m]! That’s terrible!” :skull:

It wasn’t to the person in question! And I promise I didn’t mean it! Don’t cancel me Berries :sob:

realistically, my daughters will probably be named [name_f]Melody[/name_f] and [name_f]Althea[/name_f], but I can’t get over how sweet sisters named [name_u]Mavi[/name_u] + [name_f]Leni[/name_f] would be

I’ve loosened up my popularity standards a bit thinking it would help narrow things down because if popularity wasn’t as much of a factor I could question if I liked a name or liked how it wasn’t in the top 1000. However this plan has massively backfired and now my list is at 255 for boys and 235 for girls. Threads will be coming I’m afraid.

[name_f]Melody[/name_f] and [name_f]Althea[/name_f] is one of the prettiest sibsets I’ve ever heard!

I know I’ve seen you mention these sisters together but it caught my eye especially today.

I want to love [name_m]Kelso[/name_m], but it’s very That 70’s Show for me :sob:

i posted a name for my gp of the day, putting two sounds together thinking i’d made up a new name. when i looked back at it a few hours later, i realized i did not, in fact make up this name.

the name was philomena. :sob:

I want to like [name_f]Crescent[/name_f] as a name. I like the meaning, I like the way it looks written out. But every time I see the name, my mind goes “croissant” (in the [name_f]English[/name_f] pronunciation) and there’s nothing I can do to stop it :sob:

Why must names be so attaching and addicting, for lack of a better word??

I mean, I love it, but I just could not get the image of a baby [name_u]Danny[/name_u] and starry-eyed toddler [name_u]Alex[/name_u] out of my head today, which made me all sentimental and the like. Oh, names! You took me for a ride today! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Very specific rant but…when names just don’t make sense…

I grew up watching CSI: NY with my dad and started to rewatch it. Two of the lead characters have a baby together. The name the father chooses for his daughter is the name of a person who caused the death of someone close to him, which caused him to spiral into a dark place. How does that make sense?

Then again, tv baby names are notoriously disappointing…

I hate how Frozen turned [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] into a Frozen name

I hate when school and life in general makes me so stressed and overwhelmed that I don’t have time to appreciate my dang names! I haven’t been able to enjoy Nameberry for far too long because im so stressed! I hate it, but I think it will get better when I learn to balance the new stresses. [name_u]Super[/name_u] excited for that! :hugs:

I wish I could be just a little bit less pedantic about what qualifies as “perfect” when making hypothetical sibsets. Sometimes I can just grab a random selection of my favorites and call it good, but most of the time I get hung up on a long list of rediculously specific details. [name_f]Do[/name_f] they all have their own initial? Own ending sound? Generally of a similar length? Good. Oh wait. Two out of the three are the exact same length and now its going to bother me that number 3 is one letter off even though visually they all look the same. And so on and so forth. I spent awhile this afternoon trying to find a third sister for [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] and [name_f]Vanessa[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] nicknamed [name_f]Sallie[/name_f] and [name_f]Annie[/name_f] but I couldn’t find another 7 letter girl name I liked that fit the general vibe, didn’t repeat a beginning or ending, and had an unexpected/stretchy -ie ending nickname that preferably contained a double letter. And that’s not even taking into account the middle name which needed to also be 7 letters with a nice meaning to go with the “star”+“light” of the other two that ideally also ended in an E. And is maybe also [name_u]French[/name_u]. Yeah.
… [name_f]Sallie[/name_f] and [name_f]Annie[/name_f] get to just be twins  It’s extremely satisfying when a perfect sibset does come together exactly right, but I maybe need to find just, like, an ounce of chill sometimes.

I have a friend named [name_f]Elsa[/name_f], born before the movies and she hates the association. It’s such a beautiful name, but Frozen is so many peoples first thought.

I get so sad whenever I see my first name listed as a possible nickname for my middle name :weary: I don’t want to be one of those people who has, like…like I don’t want to be [name_u]Moon[/name_u] [name_u]Moon[/name_u] the wolf meme who has the same name twice, but I also don’t even understand how my first is used as a nn for my middle? They have separate origins, and imo it’s a stretchy nn

Why does [name_f]Virginia[/name_f] have to be associated with that word? It’s a very regal sounding name and has a nice state named after it.

If it makes you feel any better, [name_f]Virginia[/name_f] doesn’t make me think about that word at all. The association had to be pointed out to me, I just think it’s a nice name. I like [name_f]Gin[/name_f] and [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] as nns.

I just found out [name_f]Eurydice[/name_f] is not pronounced yer-ee-DEE-see…

Agreed! It’s my #1 middle name choice because it’s an important family name for me but the association is really not ideal.

This made me curious, and now I find out it’s not pronounced like “yur-ih-dice” :open_mouth:
