I think [name_f]Edmee[/name_f] looks pretty and I like it in theory but every time I see it I just think of edamame
I stopped reading Name of the [name_u]Day[/name_u] thread a while ago because I felt like it became more about the aesthetic emojis than the names. Now my favourite thread, Quick [name_u]Poll[/name_u] Thread, is also starting to have mostly emoji content… I know that’s a really irrational dislike but I’m a tiny bit sad about it lol I just don’t see the appeal of it and skip those polls
I get it! Lol the emojis sometimes confuse me
I don’t really get them either. I added emojis to a name of the day post just yesterday, mostly to see if it would get more likes if there were emojis, and it kind of did
I don’t understand
Now I’m questioning whether I like emojis, or if I just use them to fit in with the youths.
I feel like the emojis in my uc are different than how a lot of people use them. Mine are just there to match my banner and look pretty, whereas a lot of berries match emojis to a specific name’s aesthetic. I’m not the best at the aesthetic stuff.
That’s definitely me, I have no idea what I’m doing with the emojis but I do it anyway
i don’t really like them in polls either (just because they become kind of distracting) but i really enjoy them in NOTD and similar threads! because the format is just a single name + maybe a few words, using emojis helps you conceptualize why you like the name and how you see it and why it appeals to you - AKA why it’s your name of the day, while still going with the short format of the thread. it’s fun for me! it’s usually a nice challenge trying to figure out how to express my feelings and imagery about a name through silly little pictures lol
I agree! I’m a really visual person so I like having the visual cues of emojis to figure out what someone is going for/articulate what I’m going for when I imagine a name in my head. But I admit sometimes the combinations confuse me if they aren’t terribly cohesive
I agree, the emojis confuse me a lot! While written descriptions of feelings and aesthetics etc, might help more for me. [name_u]Or[/name_u] maybe a text about why you like the name, more explicit words rather than emojis…?
Same! They don’t have a specific aesthetic for the name.
I just found out that [name_f]Liriope[/name_f] is not pronounced lih-ree-oh-pee
That changes the whole imagery of the name for me
it is, in greek!
which leads to my name rant being that i wish nameberry would include both the greek and english pronunciations for greek names :,) haha
i want the the threads where you upload aesthetic pictures or moodboards to conceptualize your love of a name to come back
i love picking and choosing which pronunciation i like i love liriope and terpsichore with the green pronunciations but persephone and eurydice with the english ones. which isn’t great but
Oh yay!!
I love the Greek pronunciation of Calliope much more than the English one. I definitely agree about Greek pronunciations being listed on nameberry, that should be a given if it is a Greek name.
Well, I guess I’m not an American anymore then. While this may be true of some (many? most?), I am a serial nicknamer!
Absolutely this.
Every name I love feels like and also
and also
to me… but only because because I like those emojis and like the names!
Omg I need to talk about this.
Basically my partner and I both love the name [name_f]Saoirse[/name_f], but I’d never use it because of its importance to those with [name_u]Irish[/name_u] heritage, which I told him.
However, he then pulls out “But I’m Irish” (guys he’s like 10% [name_u]Irish[/name_u] according to those little kit DNA tests) and when I tried to explain it to him by saying “it would be like if someone with no connection to the US used the name Liberty” (I know this is not an exact analogy but it was the best I could think of) he goes “you don’t think there’s a [name_u]French[/name_u] person out there named Liberté?”
Like yeah I’m sure there is, but it’s not the point at all I know he’s not doing it to be annoying because he just loves the name, but ugh we have the similar [name_f]Saorla[/name_f], and it just pushes my buttons a bit!!
** This is not serious at all lol just a teeny tiny rant
Hm… I love nicknames as much as the next Berry, but surely it’s still rude/mean to call someone something that they specifically asked you not to call them?
Oh oof, the edit I made to my post did not stick. I meant to add that unless some some specifies that they do not like a nickname, I often call people I’m close to by some.
You’re very right!! How awful it would feel to have someone call you something you explicitly asked not to be called…
