Name Rants

Name rant: I love love love the name [name_m]Adolf[/name_m] and the meaning “noble wolf” and for obvious reasons, never usable. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Guys I’ve def been guilty of this too in the past, but for some reason today it’s driving me crazy when people ask for opinions on a name and someone says something along the lines of “I hate it because of a bad association I have with someone who has the name”

Like… okay? :sob: It’s totally another thing if it’s like a well-known bad association, but it just seems unnecessary and tangential to me when it’s a personal anecdote

I think that’s just a way for people to essentially say “I would like it or feel neutrally about it, but…”. It’s just informing the person who asked that you can’t honestly say that you like it but that there isn’t anything inherently wrong with the name.

If it makes you feel better, I would love meeting a Betty and a Firefly!

i really want to participate in the qpt trend of polling the names your parents considered, but there’s no list… i was given the only name my parents could somewhat agree upon :sob:

All the names my parents considered for me! Pick all you like!

Difficult choice, but eventually [name_f]Megan[/name_f] won out!

Couldn’t decide between [name_f]Megan[/name_f] and [name_f]Megan[/name_f]

I would have voted for [name_f]Megan[/name_f] twice if I could

I have a new name love, Inigo.

As of right now; it’s just so perfect!! But just imagine me having six boys, as an example. What would they be named? Daniel, Kennedy, Jack, Inigo, Jasper, Alexander? I’m not quite sure that works :sob:

I’m also loving Spanish names recently.

I cannot understand the current Nameberry passion for [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]. It’s mentioned on here such a lot, it sounds rather predictable now. I know it’s not a common name, but judging by the love of it, it might as well be. I feel the same way about [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] and [name_f]Lavender[/name_f]. I can predict at least one person will suggest at least one of these when asked for a suitable middle name. [name_m]Just[/name_m] thought I’d get that off my chest!

I feel like the middle names you use balance everything out! How could [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] feel less special than [name_u]Bravery[/name_u] when she has a middle name like Hallelujah?! Maybe she resonates with [name_f]Hallelujah[/name_f] more as a name and goes by that instead! Likewise, Maybe [name_u]Bravery[/name_u] feels more comfortable using his middle name, [name_u]Noah[/name_u]!

Bit of a weird “rant” but it’s been bugging me for months and I need to see if I’m the only

If a girl’s full name is [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], why would [name_f]Kate[/name_f] be spelled with a K and not as [name_f]Cate[/name_f]? [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] we shorten to [name_f]Kate[/name_f], which makes sense, but why not [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] → [name_f]Cate[/name_f]? It’s really not clicking in my head why not? [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] people tend to shorten to [name_f]Cat[/name_f] and [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] to [name_f]Kat[/name_f], so why is it different for [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] → [name_f]Cate[/name_f]?

I know a [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] nn [name_f]Cate[/name_f]! Not sure I know a [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] who spells it [name_f]Kate[/name_f].

I had a short thought earlier about having daughters named [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] and [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f], and then I realized… the endings are the same :sob:

I like the combo [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] so much that the fact [name_f]Anna[/name_f] means [name_f]Grace[/name_f] feels like a personal insult.
side note: having a minor [name_f]Anna[/name_f] related freak out, my bf’s surname is a noun and one of my friends said that [name_f]Anna[/name_f] sounds like ‘and a’ said fast, so now I’m worried the fn / sn combo sounds like ‘and a (noun)’

that is so satisfying to me, the reason why the question popped in my head is that [name_f]Kate[/name_f] Middleton’s full first name [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is, where does the ‘K’ come from?!?!?!
