Not sure if this is so much a rant… but…
[name_f]My[/name_f] brother and I were talking about names, and I told him [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is my favorite name. He said he didn’t really like it. Then I said that the likelihood that he will have a niece with [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] somewhere in her name is very high. I also said that he cannot call her [name_f]Liz[/name_f], [name_f]Lizzie[/name_f], [name_f]Libby[/name_f], [name_f]Beth[/name_f], Bethie, [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Liza[/name_f], or [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. Then he said “so can I call her Lizzo?”
Lizzo, guys… I have no idea how this kid’s brain works… that’s definitely a new one…

haha - thats what i call my friend! she is elizabeth ‘lizzy’ but i have always called her betty and lizzo as well

I only know one [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] (well, the Greek version – Elisavet!) and the only nickname I’ve ever used for her is [name_f]Zizi[/name_f] because it was the easiest for me when I was a little kid

I keep forgetting about [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f].
She’s probably in my top 25 of names would actually genuinely consider for future kids and yet somehow everytime I’m making a list of my top names or most recently a list of all the R names I could think of I always, without fail, Forget. To. Put. [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f]. How?! Why??

While I was going through a box that was filled with a childhood stuff, I stumbled upon an old name list that had six names, and I’m just scratching my head at younger me for how I categorized names like;
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] and [name_m]Drake[/name_m] (Australian)
[name_f]Prim[/name_f] and [name_m]Perry[/name_m] (British)
[name_f]Maka[/name_f] and [name_f]Soul[/name_f] (Japan)
And, no I have no context clue since this list was made over a decade now, wish I do bc now I’m confused what I was thinking

maka and soul are the names of two characters from an anime that was really popular back then, that’s probably why you associated them with japan! not sure about the other 2 though haha

If [name_f]Josie[/name_f] (Jo-zee) can be an acceptable nickname for [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] why can’t it be one for [name_f]Jessica[/name_f]? 
(And by proxy, other names containing a prominent J + S sound such as [name_f]Justine[/name_f], [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f], [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] and Jacinda)
Joze and [name_m]Joss[/name_m] are different sounds, and the most common spelling of [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] I’ve seen has a c instead of s. I actually love [name_f]Josie[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] instead of the more intuitive [name_m]Joss[/name_m] but I think that if [name_f]Josie[/name_f] can be applied to a name that doesn’t have the [name_m]Joe[/name_m] + s sound and not “just Josephine”, it should be more mainstream to apply it more names in a similar boat.
If a [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] doesn’t like any of the Jess-adjacent nicknames (believe me, that’s all there are. Nobody wants to go by Ica) then they’re out of luck. [name_m]Long[/name_m] names (which by default, lead to shortening due to their length) with only one proper nickname option (Jessie / [name_f]Jessa[/name_f] don’t count as they get further reduced) are the worst to deal with if the person doesn’t like that one nickname option, so I think more liberty regarding choice of name short form should be more widely accepted especially in these cases.
I think [name_f]Josie[/name_f] is a sweet, classic nickname that would work well for Jessica’s not wanting to sport the more masculine and terse sounding [name_f]Jess[/name_f].

I think in general it’s just not as common. It’s sounds fine as a nickname for [name_f]Jessica[/name_f], but when it’s written it looks a bit odd. It’s cute though, I like it!

I hate that some names are so tied to specific birth orders for me. Like so many are youngest child names and it’s kind of difficult to make sets because of it 
I love the names [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] as sisters, but both of them are solidified in my mind as being youngest children names, so they don’t work in a set. I feel the same way about [name_m]Henry[/name_m] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] (although, these two work as twins in my mind as long as they’re the last pregnancy in the family).
I don’t know why my brain has to work this way?! Like why can’t I have a set of [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Birdie[/name_f], and [name_m]Sonny[/name_m]? Why do they all have to feel like baby of the family names

I can deal with a lot of stretchy nicknames, but one thing that’s always bothered me is nicknames that come from reversing sounds. Like, what do you mean [name_m]Kit[/name_m] can be a nickname for [name_m]Atticus[/name_m]? And [name_f]Nell[/name_f] for [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]? [name_f]My[/name_f] brain just doesn’t like it.
