Name Rants

I don’t want to be happy with my four-boy sibset :sob:

Catcher, [name_m]Bucky[/name_m], [name_m]Roger[/name_m], and Pascoe? [name_u]Pascoe[/name_u] doesn’t fit.

Catcher, [name_m]Bucky[/name_m], [name_m]Roger[/name_m], and Clyde? Two C names.

Catcher, [name_m]Fisher[/name_m], Seeker, and Roger? [name_m]Roger[/name_m] doesn’t vibe.

[name_m]Bucky[/name_m], [name_m]Roger[/name_m], [name_m]Clint[/name_m], and Seeker? Too Marvel-esque.

I love [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] “Ally” but my mother’s nn is [name_u]Allie[/name_u] and I feel iffy about honoring her sometimes

I have 2-3 boy top FNs (I can make 1 of the FN a MN and be fine with it) and 3 girl top FNs. How am I supposed to choose if I don’t have as many kids as I have names? How does anyone choose which names to go with first, second and third for each gender?

I have 2 ways to go with my names:

  1. [name_f]Annika[/name_f], Tɛgᴀn, Ɛlvᴀ, [name_m]Matthew[/name_m], [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] & [name_m]Conrad[/name_m]
  2. [name_f]Annika[/name_f], Tɛgᴀn, Ɛlvᴀ, [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], [name_m]Conrad[/name_m] & ? – [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] being one of two MNs in a double MN in this option

I can’t seem to get my girl names down to 2 top names. I’m also not sure about repeated initials and my next 3 boy names are [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], [name_m]Tancred[/name_m] & [name_u]Asa[/name_u] (not in that order). I’m getting frustrated at being unable to decide on 2 top girl names without having reservations about not going for all 3 girl names.

What do I do?

I read someone describe [name_f]Artemisia[/name_f] as a pointless elaboration of [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] and it ticked me off. [name_f]Artemisia[/name_f] isn’t an elaboration of [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] - it’s a separate name meaning “belonging to Artemis”. The Ancient Greeks didn’t give their children the names of their gods - that would be like a modern person calling their child “God”.

that would be artemesia. artemisia and artemesia are different names.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you have a source for that? I’ve never come across [name_f]Artemesia[/name_f] before. [name_f]My[/name_f] source for the meaning of [name_f]Artemisia[/name_f] is Llewellyn’s Complete Book of Names by K.M. Sheard.

silly me

why on earth do I put [name_u]Poet[/name_u] in a poll for a new combo when I know I already have a combo with it :woman_facepalming:
but then [name_u]Poet[/name_u] sounds so nice with [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] … :woman_shrugging:

That annoys me too, even though personally I prefer Artemis over Artemisia. (I think Artemesia and Artemisia look like spelling variations of each other? I’ve read that Artemisia is the feminine form of Artemisios.)

Ah, I got a copy too just before Christmas last year and I love it so much. (It gave me a new guilty pleasure - Alchemilla.)

I love that book so much! It’s definitely my favourite name book. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I know brothers named [name_m]Isaiah[/name_m] and [name_m]Elijah[/name_m]! I don’t think they’re necessarily too close in sound.

I’m reading a story right now featuring a baby named [name_u]Oliver[/name_u]. I’m loving it in the story, but when I try to picture on my own potential kids, all I can think is :thought_balloon:dog name :thought_balloon:.
