I will see if this is something we can add to the list description at the top. I can totally see how frustrating this must be.
@emelfem is right. These big lists of names by origin are actually auto-created by the name database system depending on what origin is listed in each name entry. So this list isn’t something someone has put together to represent names actually in use in [name_f]Russia[/name_f]; it’s just anything that is in our system as being of Russian origin. I will try and add a disclaimer to that effect to the list description.
This is not a meme, but on the topic of the “Names You Hate” threads, I would like to say that I do like to read those, because it is interesting to see why people don’t like specific names, and sometimes I do post, but I try to be as nice as possible, only saying like “I don’t like __”. I also know that there are plenty of popular [name_u]Berry[/name_u] names that I don’t like, so please tell me if you think I should take my most recent post on one of those down while I can still find it. (especially @jonquils, I know you were upset I didn’t like [name_m]Isaiah[/name_m])
Side note: You guys should be proud, you seemed to have tricked me into thinking [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] is not too bad. But I’m stubborn, so keep working at it.
Me: putting a sock on the three year old I babysit sometimes Sit still please, [name_m]Buddy[/name_m]
Him: no, that’s wrong
Me: oh no! How should I do it?
Him: takes off sock and turns it inside out like this!
Me internally: oh my gosh I have so much respect for parents
I can imagine some non-binary trans people picking Dirt out for themselves. With enbies named Teeth, Rock, Bug, Knives, Socks, and all that, Dirt wouldn’t seem out of place.
Other naming websites:
Poster 1: I would love to honor my Grandmother [name_f]Beverly[/name_f] in my daughter’s name, but I’m worried it’s dated.
Poster 2: What about spelling it Beverleigh?
People on NB:
Poster 1: I would love to honor my Grandmother [name_f]Beverly[/name_f] in my daughter’s name, but I’m worried it’s dated.
Poster 2: I think it’s vintage and lovely
Poster 3: Oh, beautiful
Poster 4: I would use it in a second!
I kind of agree, except people on NB (in my experience) can’t stand [name_f]Beverly[/name_f]. Definitely more with names like [name_f]Helen[/name_f], [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], though.
Person: [name_f]Reignbow[/name_f] is great! It’s the best of both worlds because it has [name_u]Reign[/name_u] and [name_f]Rainbow[/name_f] in one!
Me (and other berries): NO. [name_m]Just[/name_m] no. [name_f]Reignbow[/name_f] is the worst of both worlds because it’s a kry8tive spelling of a beautiful name (if it’s paired with the right middle)!
Reignbow’s even worse than [name_f]Reignbeau[/name_f], IMO. I feel like if you’re going to go kre8tyve on such a beautiful name, you might as well go all the way. [name_f]Reignbow[/name_f] just seems… I don’t know…half-baked.
Obviously, I’m not saying that [name_f]Reignbeau[/name_f] is a good name, though. [name_f]Rainbow[/name_f] is still the best spelling of all.
I agree given some of the names of enbies that I know, Dirt wouldn’t be out of place. I have a friend who chose the name Mushroom. I also know people named: Trickster, Droplet, Socks, [name_m]Earl[/name_m], Coda, [name_u]Fox[/name_u], and Blooky.
The “rule” seems to be pretty much that anything goes.
