Need a biblical girls name that will match five boys!

I’m expecting my first girl.
We already have FIVE boys and weren’t planning on another pregnancy, but fate has a funny way of telling you when you’re a mum at heart!!
We’ve recently found out the sex, and although we’re both ecstatic (didn’t think the hubby could have girls with his track record) we, of course, have NO idea where to start with names.
Our boys are very unusual!
We decided to go with biblical names that sounded strong.
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]
[name_m]Atticus[/name_m] and [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] ([name_m]Zeke[/name_m]), who are twins
[name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] (Bartie)
& little [name_m]Judah[/name_m].

To match, we want a feminine, biblical name. Soft sounding but strong at the same time.
Maybe something with an ancient Greek origin as the others seem to have.
I think one or two syllable would be better, but it’d hard to find a good name when putting restrictions on what you’re looking for, so any input is welcome!

thank you in advance!!

[name_f]My[/name_f] first thought with your boys was [name_f]Keziah[/name_f]!

Here are some other ideas:

[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], [name_m]Atticus[/name_m], [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m], [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m], [name_m]Judah[/name_m] and…

[name_f]Tabitha[/name_f], [name_f]Naomi[/name_f], [name_f]Delilah[/name_f], [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f], [name_f]Salome[/name_f], [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], [name_f]Junia[/name_f], [name_f]Zipporah[/name_f], [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], [name_u]Damaris[/name_u]?

I don’t think I’ve heard [name_f]Keziah[/name_f] before. Strangely enthralling! Any idea what it means, or where it came from?
I feel like [name_f]Naomi[/name_f] is a little bit overused in some places now, although it is still a lovely name, and [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] is my best friend! haha
I like [name_u]Damaris[/name_u], it’s beautiful. Is it not too similar to [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] in it’s sound though maybe?

Thank you for your suggestions!

Wow, what a lovely story! Congrats on your little girl. She will be well guarded by all those brothers. To fit with their names, you need something a little bit obscure, not as obvious as [name_f]Mary[/name_f] or [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or [name_f]Rachel[/name_f].

I love [name_f]Adah[/name_f] ([name_m]AH[/name_m]-dah) for you. I think it works beautifully even though the ending is the same as [name_m]Judah[/name_m].
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], [name_m]Atticus[/name_m], [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m], [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m], [name_m]Judah[/name_m], & [name_f]Adah[/name_f]

or [name_f]Esther[/name_f]… fitting name for little beauty queen.
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], [name_m]Atticus[/name_m], [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m], [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m], [name_m]Judah[/name_m], & [name_f]Esther[/name_f]

or [name_f]Claudia[/name_f]
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], [name_m]Atticus[/name_m], [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m], [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m], [name_m]Judah[/name_m], & [name_f]Claudia[/name_f]

or [name_f]Drusilla[/name_f]… has the lovely meaning “watered by the dew”
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], [name_m]Atticus[/name_m], [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m], [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m], [name_m]Judah[/name_m], & [name_f]Drusilla[/name_f]

or [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]… has been very popular lately on Nameberry, for good reason. It sounds so fresh.
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], [name_m]Atticus[/name_m], [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m], [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m], [name_m]Judah[/name_m], & [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]

or [name_f]Myra[/name_f]… very pretty, but feels a little incomplete somehow. Maybe with a longer middle name?
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], [name_m]Atticus[/name_m], [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m], [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m], [name_m]Judah[/name_m], & [name_f]Myra[/name_f]

or [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]… one of my favorites. So elegant.
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], [name_m]Atticus[/name_m], [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m], [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m], [name_m]Judah[/name_m], & [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]

or [name_f]Priscilla[/name_f]… it’s longer, but it has that strong-yet-soft sound you seek.
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], [name_m]Atticus[/name_m], [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m], [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m], [name_m]Judah[/name_m], & [name_f]Priscilla[/name_f]

or [name_f]Tamar[/name_f]… sprang to mind second after [name_f]Adah[/name_f]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you mind the negative connotations of her Biblical account?
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], [name_m]Atticus[/name_m], [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m], [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m], [name_m]Judah[/name_m], & [name_f]Tamar[/name_f]

or [name_f]Zillah[/name_f]… so unusual yet simple.
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], [name_m]Atticus[/name_m], [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m], [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m], [name_m]Judah[/name_m], & [name_f]Zillah[/name_f]

I like [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] and [name_f]Abigail[/name_f], but I think they’re too close to [name_m]Atticus[/name_m]. (Same rhythm and similar sounds.)
[name_f]Jemima[/name_f] is also lovely, but strikes me as out of sync with the boys’ names.
Have fun! It would be interesting to get the brothers’ input!

PS [name_m]Just[/name_m] saw that you like [name_f]Keziah[/name_f]… my bff in University was named Quezia. [name_f]Keziah[/name_f] was the daughter of [name_m]Job[/name_m]. Look for her at the very end of the Book of [name_m]Job[/name_m]. Her name means “perfume, perfumed one.” [name_f]Lovely[/name_f], no?!

[name_f]Keziah[/name_f] is a daughter of [name_m]Job[/name_m] in the old testament. As nameberry mentions “it was said that there were no women in all the land who were so fair as [name_m]Job[/name_m]'s daughters.” The name comes from the [name_f]Cassia[/name_f] tree.

I guess [name_u]Damaris[/name_u] and [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] are fairly similar now that I think about it. That’s a shame, it would have been a great pick.

[name_f]Hadassah[/name_f] was my first thought, I really like her with your sons’ names. Since you can’t use [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f], maybe [name_f]Tirzah[/name_f]? [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] would also go great with the boys’ names. or maybe [name_f]Jemima[/name_f], [name_f]Dinah[/name_f], [name_f]Adah[/name_f], [name_f]Mercy[/name_f], [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f], [name_f]Danica[/name_f], [name_f]Davina[/name_f], or [name_f]Tamara[/name_f]?

Before I knew I was expecting twins with my second pregnancy, we loved the name [name_u]Artemis[/name_u]!
We eventually settled on [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] instead - which worked well because I felt it flowed better with [name_m]Zeke[/name_m].
I wasn’t sure how I liked the idea of his name being shortened to ‘[name_m]Art[/name_m]’ anyway - ‘[name_m]Zeke[/name_m] and [name_m]Art[/name_m]’ felt a bit too short and snappy for my liking.
I’m glad of it now, because they’re always referred to as a pair!
I’ll never lose my love for the name though.

I noticed you feel her name should end in an ‘a’ or ‘ah’ sound?
[name_m]Both[/name_m] classically very feminine but I wasn’t sure how they would work with [name_m]Judah[/name_m].
I have to admit I do have a particular fondness for [name_f]Esther[/name_f] and [name_f]Adah[/name_f]. [name_m]Both[/name_m] beautiful, with wonderful connotations.

Thanks so much.

[name_f]Magdalene[/name_f]/[name_f]Magdalena[/name_f]
[name_f]Rebekah[/name_f]- my nieces name. She goes by Bekah.
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f]
[name_u]Elisha[/name_u]

I love the suggestions of :
[name_f]Zillah[/name_f]
[name_f]Claudia[/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Adah[/name_f]
[name_f]Myra[/name_f]

I also really like [name_f]Keziah[/name_f]!

Quezia is wonderful, very unique. I very much like [name_f]Keziah[/name_f], but I worry her name would be shortened to ‘Kez’!
It’s the ‘ar’ sound in [name_u]Damaris[/name_u] that could allow it, I do love that name.

Our eldest thinks we should call her [name_f]Lilith[/name_f], but I’m not sure as it sounds quite dark and maybe overly old fashioned. I haven’t looked into it yet so I’m not sure where it comes from.
I suggested [name_f]Nyx[/name_f] to [name_m]Zeke[/name_m], which he liked, I think because of the ‘X’ sound, which makes it unusual. [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] hasn’t shown much interest and [name_m]Bart[/name_m] wanted another brother. So no helpful suggestions there haha!

[name_f]Hadassah[/name_f] is lovely, the husband approves! Very soft, yet strong at the same time  [name_f]Tirzah[/name_f] is lovely as well.

Thank you

[name_f]Selah[/name_f](know a girl by this and she always gets compliments), [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f], [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f], [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f](comes from [name_m]Seraphim[/name_m] an old biblical word), [name_m]Adriel[/name_m], [name_f]Mara[/name_f], [name_f]Mercy[/name_f], [name_f]Myra[/name_f], [name_f]Rhoda[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]

[name_u]Damaris[/name_u] was my first thought, but yes, it’s a little close to [name_m]Atticus[/name_m]. What about [name_f]Priscilla[/name_f]? I think it would fit in very well. [name_f]Susannah[/name_f], [name_f]Jemima[/name_f], and [name_f]Martha[/name_f] would also work with your sibset.

If you’re open to non-biblical but meaningful names, what about one of the following:

[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] (“bearer of good news”)
[name_f]Esme[/name_f] (“beloved”)
[name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] (“resurrection”)
[name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] or [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] (“gift of God”)
[name_f]Mirabel[/name_f] (“marvelous”)
[name_f]Constance[/name_f]/[name_f]Constancia[/name_f] ("constant)
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f] (“merciful”)

[name_f]Selah[/name_f] is lovely, would it be pronounced ‘cee-la’ or ‘Cel - ah?’ though?
[name_f]Seraphina[/name_f], wow! Very strange but I love it
I had considered [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] - for the nickname ‘[name_f]Thea[/name_f]’, but worry people might call her [name_u]Theo[/name_u]!

Thanks for your input

I adore [name_f]Esme[/name_f], it’s perhaps one of my favourites. I’m not sure how we feel about straying from the biblical theme, it only makes sense to keep it going after so many! Though if we were to choose something different, I think it would perhaps be something like [name_f]Esme[/name_f], or even [name_f]Constance[/name_f].
I’m seeing [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] a lot, my husband really likes it but it reminds me of the [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] Duck book! haha

thanks again!

If I was going to name my daughter a strong, biblical name, it would hands-down be [name_f]Esther[/name_f]. She may have been a beauty queen and trophy wife, but she was so much stronger than that. She had brains behind that beauty. She is one of only two women to have a book named after her, and she is one of the few female heroines in the Bible whose “claim to Biblical fame” does not revolve around her having a child. She stood up for her faith in the face of adversity and ultimately saved her people. I love the book of [name_f]Esther[/name_f]. It was my favorite Bible story as a kid. One of my little cousins is named [name_f]Esther[/name_f], which makes me kinda sad because it’s now off the table for me!

I’ve always loved the name [name_f]Esther[/name_f], I believe everything surrounding it is beautiful  It’s being strongly considered, along with [name_u]Damaris[/name_u] and [name_f]Sarai[/name_f]
Any others we could add to the list are appreciated!!

I love [name_f]Esther[/name_f], it’s a bonus too because it’s ending is different than all of your boys names.
There’s also [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] if you want something softer sounding.

Or what about going super hardcore and simply naming her [name_f]Eve[/name_f]?
It would be a great name for your little girl since she is truly your first woman!

I also love the name [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f]. and [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] is lovely!

What a wonderful idea behind the name [name_f]Eve[/name_f]! I hadn’t thought about it like that, thank you
I had considered it maybe TOO short at first but I’m beginning to think shorter is better.
Thanks for the great idea

I have to say I’ve never been a fan of [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f], as I can’t stand the nickname [name_f]Magda[/name_f]!

With [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], [name_m]Atticus[/name_m], [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m], [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m], and [name_m]Judah[/name_m], I like:

[name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] (not really a Biblical name, but it has a lovely name most Christians appreciate–pure–and I think it works really, really well with your boys. To my knowledge, [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] and [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] aren’t Biblical–although they might be saint names; I know [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] is–so I think [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] fits right in.)
[name_f]Julia[/name_f]
[name_f]Susanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f] (not Biblical, again, but its meaning, “light”, has lots of lovely religious connotations, and maybe even some Catholic symbolism?)
[name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f]
[name_f]Tessa[/name_f] (again, not Biblical, but it ties very nicely to a passage in the Gospels where [name_m]Jesus[/name_m] says something along the lines of “the harvest is ready, but the workers are few.” [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] (as well as just [name_f]Tess[/name_f] and [name_f]Theresa[/name_f]) means “harvester”)
[name_f]Hannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] (I like something like a double barrel with [name_f]Mary[/name_f], but just [name_f]Mary[/name_f] be really great, too)
[name_f]Zoe[/name_f] (again, not Biblical, but the meaning could be great for a [name_m]Christian[/name_m]. Besides, it’s a word that is used fairly frequently in the original Greek text, and it means the same thing as [name_f]Eve[/name_f])

I also really like these with your boys, although they don’t really fit the religious history you seem to want:

[name_f]Emilia[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Camille[/name_f] (I especially love this with [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], but also with [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] and [name_m]Judah[/name_m]!)
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f]
[name_f]Nadia[/name_f] (great meaning for a [name_m]Christian[/name_m] family here, too)
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]

Good luck!

I love the other suggestions of:

[name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f]Susannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Esther[/name_f] or [name_f]Hadassah[/name_f]
[name_f]Ruth[/name_f]

I like [name_f]Kezia[/name_f] or Hebrew transliteration [name_f]Ketzia[/name_f]. The meaning is ‘cassia’ which is the tree cinnamon is from. I probably wouldn’t spell it [name_f]Keziah[/name_f] simply because I prefer the more Hebrew kez-ee-ah or ke-tzee-uh pronunciation and worry [name_f]Keziah[/name_f] would get kez-EYE-ah. [name_f]Ketzia[/name_f] I’d call [name_f]Kitty[/name_f] for short and avoid Kez.

[name_f]Noa[/name_f] is a Biblical GIRLS name not to be confused with [name_u]Noah[/name_u]. It is much rarer in English speaking countries than [name_f]Naomi[/name_f], but I love both. Nameberry tends to find it masculine though. :frowning:

[name_f]Tamar[/name_f] (ta-[name_f]MAR[/name_f]) means ‘palm tree’ and is sometimes taken in extension to refer to tall and slim. I love it, but I don’t love it said [name_u]TAY[/name_u]-mer or [name_m]TOM[/name_m]-er. I think it’s a lot more popular with Jews than Christians though?

I’m very fond of [name_u]Yael[/name_u]/[name_u]Jael[/name_u] (both pronounced ya-[name_f]ELLE[/name_f] is what I’m used to, not a hard j like [name_m]Judah[/name_m]) but I can’t get my husband to consider it.

[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] is [name_m]New[/name_m] Testament with a Greek connection and seems like a great way to bridge to [name_m]Atticus[/name_m]. Great combo of [name_m]Christian[/name_m] and mythological ties if that’s what you’re looking for? Also less pronunciation dramas than some of my more obscure picks.
