Need your nameberry professional opinions! Odette for my baby girl

Decided to name my daughter [name]Odette[/name] when she is born in [name]January[/name]…

thoughts?

what kind of person does this make you think of?

what is your opinion?

do you know any [name]Odette[/name]'s?

thank you in advance

I immediately think of the lovely [name]Odette[/name] Annable, who was on the final season of House. But not like, she owns the name and it’s unusable.

She’s quite slim and lovely and it is a ballerina kind of name - I do think (faintly) of the Swan [name]Lake[/name] princess.

I like the name. I don’t love it, but it does appeal - the O is nice and the ette is strong but feminine.

On a more negative note, the starting sound of the name reminds me faintly of some negative words (OD, odor, odd, odious) BUT, I think the name as a whole overwhelms that. If that’s the worst it’s got, it’s doing better than a lot of names.

I also see lots of charm in the somewhat similar [name]Odessa[/name] and [name]Odelia[/name], so please don’t take that Od stuff to seriously…just being thorough.

Good luck!

I had a friend named [name]Odette[/name]. She would be in her mid 30s now… so it makes me think of her. Pretty, funny, and practical. I called her Detty for short, which was sort of a fun nickname. I think it is a beautiful name - not sure I would use it myself, because it is a bit unusual, but I applaud you choosing it!

I adore it!

I think of a very sweet girl who’s well mannered, and determined. I see her having a lot of life to her, but being calm. Kind of like the sparkles in crystals.

wow i really appreciate these responses - so well thought out and honest - cant wait to show to my husband, thank you!

I love the name [name]Odette[/name]! It makes me think of someone kind, respectful, graceful, and humble!

I think it’s lovely. You might get a few people who think “owe debt” but probably not many. Probably more who will think of Swan [name]Lake[/name], but not too many people know ballet as it is. I agree with all the previous posters - graceful, respectful, calm, slim and pretty, with maybe a dash of “prima donna” in her. I would love to meet an [name]Odette[/name].

Hello!

I absolutely love the name [name]Odette[/name]. It is one of my favorite names. When I hear it, I think of elegance and grace. I grew found of the name as a child when I first heard it in the children’s book: [name]Odette[/name]: A [name]Bird[/name] in [name]Paris[/name] (Library Binding). Written by: [name]Kay[/name] Fender
I believe that you will truly enjoy the book and it would be a great bedtime story for your daughter when she is older. Have you decided on a middle name?

Warmly,

[name]Sahar[/name]

I don’t know any, but I love the name. It’s on my guilty pleasure list and I think it sounds sophisticated and gorgeous.

I knew a girl in high school whose middle name was [name]Odette[/name]. When it came up in conversation, it literally took my breath away. I’d always associated it with Swan [name]Lake[/name], so it had never occurred to me to think of with real-life applicability, but my immediate response was total adoration. She was a long-necked, graceful sort of person, too, so it was really fitting. I love it. My only worry would be someone shortening it to “[name]Odie[/name]” for a horrible nickname.

Classy, underused, beautiful, cool. [name]Love[/name] [name]Odette[/name] Good luck!

I actually like the name I think it’s sweet, I knew a little girl who was named [name]Odette[/name] when I was younger, they lived next door to us and we went to preschool together her mother had been a dancer, like a really good one in a national/international company I think and that’s why she was named [name]Odette[/name] after the princess in Swan [name]Lake[/name] because that was her mother’s favourite ballet and what she was performing in when she met her husband I called her Detta and I remember her dad calling her [name]Ettie[/name] I remember thinking it was so cool that she had such meaning behind her name & of course that she was named after a princess
Overall I think it’s a great name, really unusual and unique

I agree with everything that has been said. [name]Odette[/name] is a beautiful name! It’s classic and unique, ( I would love to meet an [name]Odette[/name]!)but still familiar without being overused. Go for it!

[name]Odette[/name] is beautiful! I think of Swan [name]Lake[/name] too, but that’s a lovely association I think.

I love it! There is something graceful and regal about it. Pretty and strong. Great choice!

I think ballerina, probably because of Swan [name]Lake[/name]. But that’s by no means a negative association on my part!

So slim,graceful,intelligent,strength of character.

wow these responses have made me fall in love with it all over again…

thank you!

[name]Odette[/name] is beautiful. When I hear it I picture someone delicae looking but with a strong, caring character.

I don’t know any personally, but [name]Odette[/name] Annable springs to mind. Which isn’t a bad thing as she’s gorgeous!

Not a fan sorry, I teach an [name]Odette[/name] and she lives up to being a ‘princess’.
They don’t shorten her name at all.

[name]Love[/name] it! It’s one of those far-out there names for me to use but I’d secretly want to anyways. [name]Odette[/name] is a ballerina, a swan maiden and an animated princess (The Swan [name]Princess[/name] movie, anyone?) and according to wiki, also the name of a WWII resistance heroine. [name]Lovely[/name]!
