I have been thinking about naming our expected girl after my mom who passed away when I was young. I loved her dearly but am not 100% in love with [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] as a given name. I also kind of feel like it might be awkward or hard for my Grandma and Dad but it would be really special to me to pass on the name in honour of her. Anyway, all that is to say that I am wondering about nicknames for [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] beyond the obvious “Bon” I thought [name_f]Nina[/name_f] might work but my husband thinks it it too much of a stretch.
[name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] feels like a nickname on its own to me. I actually kind of wish there was a longer name that I could use to get [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] as a nickname. I’m warming up to using just the nicknamey names I love, but I always feel like there should be something a little more formal… anyway, Bon works, just B could work, or [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] is short and informal sounding enough that I don’t think you really need to nickname it…
Use it verbatim as a middle name? I think the farther you stray from a name, the less it feels like honouring someone. Instead of your daughter saying 'My name is [name_f]Nina[/name_f], after my late grandmother [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f]. My mom didn’t like the name [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f]" just choose a first name you love that won’t cause any sad feelings for your father or grandmother. Or choose something really meaningful about your mother, like her maiden name, her favourite place, her favourite song, etc? I think it feels better to say “My name is [name_f]Marin[/name_f], after the town where my grandmother spent her summers.”
I agree with the poster who suggests using it veebatim a s middle name. Honors your mom, and its part of her name wo making gparents call ber by it, which, as u point out might be hard for them.
I personally don’t think [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] needs a nickname, but I can see why you would want one. What about [name_u]Bo[/name_u]/[name_m]Beau[/name_m], [name_f]Bebe[/name_f] or [name_f]Bee[/name_f]/[name_f]Bea[/name_f]?
