Nicknames for your unborn Child

I almost feel like I’m intruding when posting as a non-TCC, non-pregant women on the Momberries forum. But, I have a question I feel you ladies are most qualified to answer…

I was on the bus the other day and a pregnant women kept referring to her stomach as “little gremlin” and I know other berries have used names like Blueberry, or “little [name]Angel[/name]” to refer to their unborn and yet unnamed children. I think positive names (like Blueberry) are cute but I was a little weirded out by gremlin, probably because I don’t understand the reason behind it… so my question is

What do you call your unborn child and why?

This is a good question! Lol…my husband will rub my bellie bump and say “[name]How[/name]'s my little Bubbie today”? I usually call her Sweetie

We called [name]Bronwen[/name] “mini me” and Vio “Quatro” since we didnt know the gender. [name]Seb[/name] we calledby his name since we had chosen it, and [name]Linus[/name] we knew was a boy and so we originally called him “baby brother”. Same with this baby, “baby brother”. Before we knew the gender he was “baby person”. Nothing exciting or too original here. DH will call the baby a nn of his favorite name for this one, although there is no guarentee it will be chosen.

My sister called her youngest “baby Kajo” since her name is [name]Karen[/name] and her dh’s is [name]Josh[/name]. They knew the gender and had a namebut wanted a surprise for everyone else. She got the idea from another friend(who had baby jeans…for [name]Jeremy[/name] and [name]Angie[/name]).

I did use Blueberry for a short time early on, until I realized he’d gotten way bigger than a blueberry! A friend named her baby as soon as they found out they were having a girl, and called her by her given name starting halfway through the pregnancy. I usually just call him the baby but I don’t want to get in the habit of calling him by a nickname when I’ll want to call him by his actual name once he’s here. I also don’t want to make his name public knowledge until after it’s official either. My mom has several times called him by the name she’d prefer I pick, but while it’s on the short list, it isn’t decided if he’ll have that name or the other one, so it’s really annoying to me. I don’t want her getting it in her head that that’s his name because then she’ll keep wanting to call him that after he’s born, even if we go with the other name instead.

Gremlin seems a little weird :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve been calling this one my little owl. Owls are wise, fierce and strong, and the symbol of my goddess. I think I’ll only use it until I find out the sex though, then we’ll start using the name.

We call him/her [name]Baby[/name] most of the time, sometimes [name]Pixie[/name], Imp, [name]Bunny[/name] and [name]Peach[/name] depending on [name]Baby[/name]'s mood. But [name]Baby[/name] is the big one. So when my boyfriend wakes up in the morning, it’s “[name]Morning[/name] [name]Babe[/name], morning [name]Baby[/name]”.

We’ve been calling him Spawn since the test was positive. We were pretty uncomfortable calling him an It and couldn’t know the gender for a long time, and, frankly, he’s our Spawn. We also don’t want to name him until we meet him, so he’ll be called Spawn at least until he’s born, but probably for his entire life.

So far I’ve been calling baby “the lentil” because that’s how I described the first ultrasound to DH.
Eventually I guess I’ll have to upgrade that nickname, but for now it’s stuck and certainly better than “it” and more natural for me than anything cutesy.

Aw, I think gremlin is cute. We call our daughter that all the time now that she’s into everything! In utero, she was everything from “Zygote” to"The Bubs" to “Peanut”. A friend and his wife lovingly referred to their child as “The Occupant” for most of her pregnancy.

I also think gremlin is cute  But I’m a bit snarky by nature. I call my dogs uglies a lot, even though I love them dearly, and they are very cute  My son was Shnicklefritz throughout my pregnancy because we didn’t decide his name till after he was born. Occasionally, he was mommy’s little parasite, but in my defense, my pregnancies are extremely uncomfortable

Lol. Shnicklefritz reminded me of The Big Comfy Couch.

My friend, [name]Ali[/name], is pregnant with a baby with a CHD, and her last name is [name]Byrd[/name]. She is naming her daughter [name]Lily[/name], so she calls her baby “Lilybird” or “Lilybyrd”. I think that’s really cute. The woman I babysat for when I was younger was pregnant with a boy and she called her bump “[name]Little[/name] Mister” or “[name]Little[/name] [name]Man[/name]”. My roommate called her bump “[name]Princess[/name]” and “[name]Sophie[/name] Girl”, as she knew she would name her [name]Sophie[/name]. I called my daughter “[name]Lil[/name]’ Miss” and “[name]Baby[/name] Girl” and occasionally “[name]Little[/name] Lady”. Usually “[name]Little[/name] Miss”. For this pregnancy I don’t have a name yet, so my daughter just calls her “[name]Sissy[/name]” or “[name]Missy[/name]”. I call her “[name]Little[/name] Miss” again usually. I like names like that, [name]Little[/name] Miss, [name]Little[/name] Mister, because I didn’t like having to call my baby “It” before I knew the gender.
[name]Love[/name],
~[name]Ivy[/name] and [name]Evie[/name] [name]Anne[/name] and [name]Little[/name] Miss

Mine was Taz cause she moved around so much! And [name]Kiki[/name] because she was a kicker! My dad, her Grandpappy, still calls her [name]Kiki[/name]! I think he was genuinely disappointed that wasn’t her actual name!!

Lol to Spawn & The Occupant! After [name]Leonie[/name] was born we called her “new guy” or rather we imagined that’s what our dog called her!

My cousin and I have been using LB, [name]Little[/name] [name]Baby[/name], for her bump.

It depends on the audience. If it’s a random adult on the bus, anything goes (even Gremlin, hah!). If it’s a sibling-to-be who is listening, I would probably call him/her “[name]Baby[/name] (name)” once we’d settled (or were at least 90% sure) on a name.

We have called ours Bean since we first saw the ultrasound image at 6 weeks! He looked like a little kidney bean.

We do call him other things-Gremlin sounds like something I’d use, particularly after a bad bout of morning sickness or during a particularly harsh kicking session!- but Bean has really stuck.I’m having a hard time imagining him ever being called anything else ! lol

Ha, I just came across DD’s first ultrasound pic from about 8 weeks and it reminded me that we alternated between Strongbad and Magneto for her from then up until her anatomy scan. They couldn’t get a good scan for whatever reason and switched to The Evil Giant Stick, so she’s looking directly at the camera with her giant helmet head and strongly resembles both of those baddies

We’ve been referring to our soon-to-be-born twins as “the tinies” or “the littles” for pretty much my entire pregnancy.

I would use Gremlin without a second thought. My cousin calls her bump [name]Baby[/name] Lastname. But I personally like Gremlin, but I have seen it used on an actual human for almost 2 years as a nickname so it is workable. A little boy would most likely be [name]Champ[/name] or Bub and a girl would probably be Nameless or whatever name of the day we were trying.
but names like Gremlin, Spawn, Stinker and plain old [name]Baby[/name] are all fair game.
