Hey there berries! For the past few months, I have been loving the name [name]Noa/name for a girl I already know girls named [name]Erin[/name], [name]Loagan[/name], [name]Conor[/name], etc. So can’t [name]Noah[/name] be a good girls name too? I asked my mother this and she just laughed and said that [name]Noah[/name] was a boys’ name only. Arggh! Does anybody else out there share my love for the name [name]Noah[/name] on a girl? Also, which spelling do you prefer: [name]Noa[/name] or [name]Noah[/name]? I think [name]Noa[/name] looks more feminine. WDYT?
[name]Noa[/name] is a legitimate girls name. [name]Noah[/name], is not, it’s a boys name.
I do not like boys names on girls, so I don’t support [name]Noah[/name] on a girl.
[name]Noa[/name] is originally female, so I can handle that, but even then I’m not a fan.
Boys are boys. Girls are girls.
Boys should have boys names. Girls should have girls names.
My original thought was the same as your mother’s. But… maybe you should move to [name]Israel[/name] or Spain. Apparently [name]Noa[/name] is very popular in both those countries as a girls’ name. Know though, that if you were to name your daughter [name]Noa[/name], you would get the same reaction as your mom’s many many many times. And she might continue to get that reaction throughout her life, although it would help that she could respond that it is a classic, Hebrew girl’s name. As people got to know her, it wouldn’t matter anymore -it would just be the initial reaction. The benefit -she would most likely be the only [name]Noa[/name] in her classes at school & she would get to define the name for people -When they heard the name [name]Noa[/name], they would immediately think of her and no one else.
I would definitely use the spelling [name]Noa[/name] though, not [name]Noah[/name]. [name]Noah[/name] is definitely all male to me.
As east93 said, [name]Noa[/name] is a girl’s name. It’s Hebrew and I actually know 2 female Noas, both under the age of 2. It’s nms, but if you want to use it, don’t add the “h.”
Actually, I’m pretty sure that [name]Noa[/name] is a girls name, like the girls version of [name]Noah[/name]. I know at least 2 girls naned [name]Noa[/name] and their names are never considered unusual or androgynous. [name]Hope[/name] this helps!
I too like the name [name]Noah[/name] for a girl; you are not the only one! I personally just think [name]Noah[/name] is the more classic spelling. [name]Noa[/name] to me just looks like a letter was forgotten (haha), but it’s your choice that matters. I think the name [name]Noah[/name] would be very cute on a little girl, while it could still work as an adult. However since [name]Noah[/name] is a typically male name, I would defiantly pair it with a clearly feminine name so it doesn’t seem too boyish. I thought about how [name]Jessica[/name] [name]Simpson[/name] named her daughter [name]Maxwell[/name] [name]Drew[/name], which i think is a nice name, for a boy. [name]Maxwell[/name] I see as unisex and [name]Drew[/name] could be a unisex too but both are more commonly male (at least in my opinion). So even though a name like [name]Noah[/name] [name]Blake[/name] could be a girls name… You see what I mean?
[name]Noa[/name] is a legit female name. I’ve seen it used around my area and is a great way to get to [name]Noah[/name] without the baggage. You might get occasional looks and some snoopy people might ask, but you could tell them. If I heard someone yell [name]Noa[/name] and a girl responded I would assume that was the spelling.
Nothing wrong with [name]Noa[/name] for a girl.
It means “movement,” and it is unrelated to [name]Noah[/name] as a boy’s name, which means “rest, comfort.” And it’s not spelled wrong without the h.
They sound more different in Hebrew because [name]Noah[/name] (the boy’s name) has a ch sound as in loch on the end.
[name]Both[/name] were Biblical so I don’t know what this “[name]Noa[/name] isn’t classic” is supposed to be. She was [name]Tirzah[/name]'s sister, in the Bible, and I see [name]Tirzah[/name] on Nameberry periodically.
My first reaction to [name]Noa[/name] was that you meant [name]Nora[/name] and forgot the “r”, so that could be a future problem. Also, even though she might be the only girl with that name in her class, there will probably be boys named [name]Noah[/name], since it’s currently the #5 boys name in the US.
[name]Noa[/name] is the female version and [name]Noah[/name] is the male version. Personally I don’t care about spelling or the legitness of [name]Noa[/name], to me it will always sound like [name]Noah[/name] and therefore boyish.
I love [name]Noa[/name] and think it’s addorable on a girl. I wouldn’t use the h on the end unless you were naming her after someone. Good luck!
To me [name]Noa[/name] is a girl’s name - as stripedsocks said, the boy’s name [name]Noah[/name] is actually totally unrelated, and in Hebrew is pronounced differently anyway.
BUT in the US, your average person won’t realize that, so be prepared to explain - and definitely leave off the h. I just the other day decided that i might try to convince DH that we should use it b/c i suddenly realized how much i like it. But we’re Jewish and spend most of our time around people who will recognize it as feminine and distinct from [name]Noah[/name], so that removes some of the consideration.
I love [name]Noa[/name] for a girl! All that matters is that you love it. It is a great name though in my opinion.
I like [name]Noa[/name] for a girl and know someone who is going to use it but then again it’s hit a big popularity streak for girls and boys in [name]France[/name] so I haven’t seen it get any backlash there like it has here which makes it seem very usable to me.
[name]Noa[/name] is a completely unrelated person in the Bible from [name]Noah[/name], I think their names come from different root words but I could be wrong.
My daughters name is [name]Noa[/name]! I love it just be ready for a lot of your moms generation making a weird face when you share the name. Younger people tend to be a lot more open minded and I have received a lot of compliments!
@thetxbelle: yes they are from different root words. [name]Noah[/name] means “peace” or “rest”, while [name]Noa[/name] means “movement”. So despite similar sounds they are very different names!
My boy [name]Noah[/name] we sometimes call [name]Noe[/name] (like [name]Joey[/name]) as a pet/nick name, and I’ve always thought that would be cute for a girl too. I agree with PPs, just definitely leave the h off for a girl.
That’s what I meant, but to me if someone says “Hello I’m [name]Noa[/name]” it sounds no different from someone who says “Hello I’m [name]Noah[/name]” [name]Both[/name] names are Hebrew and in the bible, btw.
If people would pronounce them “correctly” then it wouldn’t be an issue… For a girl it’s “noh-[name]AH[/name]” (it’s actually spelled out like No’a) while for a boy it’s “NOH-uh” but hardly anyone does and to me Noh-uh is all boy.
The difference is actually that in Hebrew, the H at the end of [name]Noah[/name] makes a sound that doesn’t exist in English - like the ch in [name]Bach[/name] or loch.
I don’t think the difference is “noh ah” for a girl and “noh uh” for a boy is correct considering the Hebrew prn as @spring13 said, but maybe there’s a site that says that’s the prn? I’d like to know.
