Not to use, but what do you think of Emily?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone,

I know it’s very common, and I’d never use it, but just out of curiosity, what do you guys think of the name [name_f]Emily[/name_f]?

I really love it. I don’t love that it’s common, but I adore the [name_m]Dickinson[/name_m] connection. She’s my favorite poet. :white_heart: Plus, [name_f]Millie[/name_f] as a nickname is a total score!

I love it! Very timeless classic but has a more fun, youthful energy than some of the other classic names. Definitely my favorite [name_f]Em[/name_f]- name.

I think that it’s a really pretty name.

I really, intensely dislike it. In my experience, it’s the default girls name chosen by cardboard cutout, middle management bores, to match their bland new build house and bland pasta dinner.

She’s lost her sparkle for me but I used to love her. Emily is just so fun, rough-and-tumble but warm and gentle too. Romilly gives me similar vibes. I do still love her

[name_f]Emily[/name_f] is warm and friendly, with a slight rugged and determined feel. It reminds me of [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Bronte[/name_f] and [name_f]Emily[/name_f] Widing [name_m]Davison[/name_m]

It’s my name and I love it despite how popular it is

It’s approachable and friendly

I absolutely adore [name_f]Emily[/name_f]. To me it is a name that will never loose it’s lustre

I don’t necessarily agree but this made me laugh out loud  definitely one aspect of Emily!!

Emily falls into the category of ‘background names’ for me - I’ve met so many of my own age and older (maybe a few younger?) that it just feels super vague, I don’t have any particular associations for it beyond that Emilys are usually well-behaved with neat hair. It’s a pretty sound and I like that it’s quite literary.

I have one close friend named Emily which redeems it for me slightly, she’s very wry and horsey/outdoorsy so I guess I have those associations too.

Overall I prefer the adjacent Emmeline/Emilia/Milly/Romilly but there’s nothing objectively wrong with Emily!

Its a great name! Its not creative but how exciting is it really to name your kid something really weird or trendy? [name_m]Classic[/name_m] doesn’t equate to boring :joy:

@Lula-Rose tell us more about this bland pasta :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I really like it! The fact it is common does not take anything away from it (in fact it adds a bit of charm to be honest) I love how sweet and simple it sounds

I think its’ very pretty and timeless. I can picture [name_f]Emily[/name_f] many different ways and in many different times. Although it is unfortunately way to common now and has been for quite a while, I wouldn’t associate it with the 2000s, because it’s such a classic name

emily is a pretty name! really pretty, but it’s popularity makes it unusable for me, and though they mostly died out, the emily stereotypes ruined the name for me , which is a shame, because i’m sure i’d love it if it weren’t for those reasons :sparkles:

[name_f]Emily[/name_f] is pretty and suprisingly whilst very popular in the UK I have never met one but I’d personally lean more towards using [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] if i had to

I think it’s a really pretty name, but it’s been used so much that the sparkles have worn off. There’s nothing particularly wrong with this style of names, though.

Other names I feel are in the same vein are [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Jessica[/name_f], or [name_f]Emma[/name_f] type of names, where popularity just wore them down a bit for me. Otherwise, I’d be on board!

i think it’s awfully sweet. every emily i’ve ever met i’ve loved too, so that definitely helps! :love_letter:

no. the ones i’ve met aren’t always the nicest and the most recent one i’ve met was on the awful side and she definitely swayed my opinion from “it’s fine” to “absolutely not”. to paint a picture of her personality, it’s pretty much “tiktok is my life, wears crop tops & sweatpants every day no matter what the weather is, nose ring at age 12, those (i’m sorry if you like them, i personally hate them) weird really expensive nike shoes i think they’re like air forces or something like that, asks to use the bathroom (and is allowed to leave the classroom) and instead of going to the bathroom she runs down the hallway usually chasing a boy or two from this specific group of troublemakers (not to get the boys in trouble i don’t think)”.
