Oh no =(

[name]Hi[/name] Berries. Havent been on here in awhile do to work. But now I’m back with an “how awful” moment.

Me and the BF have been talking about names a lot lately. We’ve decided that if we have a kid, we want its name to start with an A. [name]Reason[/name] being, our names are [name]Allison[/name] and [name]Alex[/name]. His brother and sister are [name]Antoine[/name] and [name]Andromeda[/name]. My brothers name is [name]Eric[/name], which obviously doesnt start with an A, but it has a similar sound.

So anyways, we start talking A names… He wants Azai (uh-z-eye) or Azahn for a boy. And [name]Anais[/name] (he pronounces it uh-n-eye-us.) I know [name]Anais[/name] is a real name, but is that really how its pronounced? I dont like that at all.

Ugh. The only one I can even remotely stand is Azahn, and I’m not all that fussed on it.

I told him I like [name]Annika[/name] for a girl and [name]Atticus[/name] for a boy, and he had a similar reaction that I had to his. We do both like [name]Anastasia[/name], but we’d be worried about the reaction to it from school kids.

[name]Annika[/name] and [name]Atticus[/name] are cute! I don’t really care for Azai or Azahn personally. Also I would pronounce [name]Anais[/name] ann-eye-EES.

I forgot to mention that those are quite tame compared to other names he likes. He likes Japanese culture, and how some downright tradional sounding Japanese names picked out. Like ones that I couldnt even begin to know how to pronounce. Good gosh.

I would never use [name]Anais[/name]… Looks like “anus” to me and I wouldn’t want that poor kid to get made fun of… Too easy  [name]IMO[/name]

I pronounce [name]Anais[/name] uh-[name]NYE[/name]-uhs. I like [name]Anais[/name] and [name]Atticus[/name], so one from each side. I think [name]Anastasia[/name] is nice, and I don’t think it should be received too poorly. The only issue would be if you don’t like the nn [name]Ana[/name]. My name’s [name]Eros[/name], the greek good of sexual love, and a male, and I never had any issues.

ferntailwp, how do you pronounce your name. Is it like ear-Ose or an air sound?

Does anyone have any unusual A name suggestions? Boy or girl.

I pronounce Anais both ways: Ahn-eye-EES and An-EYE-is since the former is the French way and the latter is the…other way? Anglo way? I actually really like it, esp. with the French pronunciation.

I see where compromise looks tough. Annika is an unusual, soft but edgy name, so I’m a tad surprised that he doesn’t like it when he likes Anais… I think Anastasia would work fine. I bet you’d come to use a nickname, but it could develop from a mannerism or quality of hers if you don’t like ones associated with the name (Ana, Ani or Annie, Sia, Stacy, Asia, etc). If you’re looking for any suggestions, I’d be happy to try my hand.

EDIT: Just read what you said above, haha! These might be too out there, but how about…

Aphra (famous woman playwright by this name)
Artemis or Athena

I’m actually suprised he doesnt like [name]Annika[/name] as well. I didnt think he’d hate [name]Atticus[/name] either, actually.

It’s air-ohs, either can be accented really although [name]AIR[/name]-ohs is more common.

Speaking of greek names I love [name]Athene[/name]/[name]Athena[/name], it’s my pseudonym ln. I might suggest some swahili names, though, because they kind of have some aspects of the names both of you are going for.

I do like [name]Athena[/name], but Idk if I’d ever use it. Not familar with swahili names, but suggest away!

I don’t care for Azahn or Azai. In my honest opinion (and when it comes to decide on names for a real child honest opinions are the only valuable ones!), Azahn and Azai look made up and tryndee. They will run into pronunciation problems; I am quite good with figuring out pronunciations but these ones had me puzzled.

[name]Atticus[/name] and [name]Anastasia[/name] are great names. Other names you and the BF might like are…

Whoops. It’s just my go to boy’s name that starts with A. To Kill A Mockingbird is one of my favorites. Haha.

Also, I didn’t like [name]Arrow[/name] at first, but the more I say it, the more I love it.

lol, I understand. Its one of my favorite boys names also. I dont hate [name]Arrow[/name], its just not something I would pick on my own. Maybe if he likes it then I’ll consider it more. It would go great with the MN ([name]Earl[/name], which is BF’s family MN for boys.)

I had always thought it was pronounced uh nye us. But then I met a girl actually named [name]Anais[/name], and she pronounced it an-na-ees

I cannot find an English prn of this name and as far as I know the name is always prn the French was but maybe Im wrong. [name]Ive[/name] never met an American or British [name]Anais[/name] so I have no idea.
