I’m considering the name [name_f]Marianne[/name_f] for a future daughter. I really like it, but interested to know what you think…Is it dated? I realize that is isn’t ‘trendy’, but that’s part of what I like about it. I’m a mom and it certainly wasn’t used in my generation apart from 1 or 2 girls, so it is hardly a ‘mom’ name, but what is it?
To me, it’s not really at the top of my list. I personally love vintage names, and if you love [name_f]Marianne[/name_f], go for it. It’s your kid, your name.
better. But it’s honestly your choice, and the nickname [name_f]Annie[/name_f] stands out to me, which I find cute.
And for a sibling…
[name_f]Marianne[/name_f] and [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] ([name_f]Annie[/name_f] and [name_f]Izzie[/name_f])
[name_f]Marianne[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] ([name_f]Annie[/name_f] and [name_f]Ellie[/name_f])
[name_f]Marianne[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] ([name_f]Annie[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f])
(I think you get the [name_f]Annie[/name_f] thing by now)
[name_f]Marianne[/name_f] and [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]
[name_f]Marianne[/name_f] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]… etc.
I think [name_f]Marianne[/name_f] can be made more ‘trendy’ without an N, as in [name_f]Mariane[/name_f]. I don’t think it’s dated or anything, it’s just that naming, especially for girls, have a lot more options and people don’t want to use the common classics.
Possible siblings: [name_f]Eliana[/name_f], [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f], [name_f]Philippa[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Ravenna[/name_f], [name_f]Winifred[/name_f]
I think [name_f]Marianne[/name_f] is definitely ready for a comeback. It hasn’t been used for a while and it has that vintage charm to it. All you need is for a celeb to use it and it would gain traction! I like the classic sweetness of [name_f]Marianne[/name_f]. Sibsets:
[name_f]Marianne[/name_f] & [name_f]Annabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Marianne[/name_f] & [name_f]Isabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Marianne[/name_f] & [name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Marianne[/name_f] & [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Marianne[/name_f] & [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Marianne[/name_f] & [name_f]Marta[/name_f]/[name_f]Martha[/name_f]
[name_f]Marianne[/name_f] & [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]
[name_f]Marianne[/name_f] & [name_m]Bennett[/name_m]
[name_f]Marianne[/name_f] & [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]
[name_f]Marianne[/name_f] & [name_m]Caspar[/name_m]
[name_f]Marianne[/name_f] & [name_m]George[/name_m]
[name_f]Marianne[/name_f] & [name_m]Albert[/name_m]
[name_f]Marianne[/name_f] & [name_m]Basil[/name_m]
[name_f]Marianne[/name_f] & [name_m]William[/name_m]
I’d stick with names with the same sort of classic vintage vibe with [name_f]Marianne[/name_f] ([name_m]Edmund[/name_m] would’ve worked perfectly as a sib to [name_f]Marianne[/name_f], but that was way too Sense & Sensibility for me for me!)
I like a lot of those sibling suggestions! especially [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] and [name_f]Marianne[/name_f] together, except I would opt for the [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] spelling to match the [name_m]French[/name_m] [name_f]Marianne[/name_f]!
I think it’s cute. My daughters mn is [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f]. The only thing is that I get the image of the rabbit in [name_f]Alice[/name_f] in wonderland calling for [name_f]Marianne[/name_f]. But if you like the book/movie that could lead to a nice mn or nursery theme. If you are worried about it being old fashioned, maybe try [name_f]Marianna[/name_f] instead
It reminds me of the white rabbit in [name_f]Alice[/name_f] in Wonderland. Im not much of a 2 names smashed together as a first type of person. I love [name_f]Annemarie[/name_f] but I’d never use it because it’s two names smashed together. It’s just not my style but if that doesn’t bother you then I say go for it.
Thanks for all your thoughts! I think I actually see [name_f]Marianne[/name_f] as less of a smoosh name than [name_f]Annemarie[/name_f] but maybe that’s just me. I also think they have such different feels to them, the [name_f]Anne[/name_f] coming first gives [name_f]Annemarie[/name_f] a much more soft delicate feel [name_f]IMO[/name_f].
I like [name_f]Marianne[/name_f] for the [name_m]Leonard[/name_m] [name_m]Cohen[/name_m] song.
You could go all out [name_m]Leonard[/name_m] [name_m]Cohen[/name_m] and name a sister [name_f]Bernadette[/name_f].
I also loved the suggestions of [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] or [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] for a sister name.
And I think [name_f]Florence[/name_f] or [name_f]Flora[/name_f] would also work well.
I love [name_f]Marianne[/name_f] (as well as [name_u]Marion[/name_u]/[name_u]Marian[/name_u])! I think it’s beautiful, familiar but uncommon and open to plenty of nickname options! “Old lady” names are my personal favourites but even for people who aren’t so keen on old fashioned names I think [name_f]Marianne[/name_f] falls comfortably into pretty vintage. Good luck!
I like [name_f]Marianne[/name_f], it’s somewhat old-fashioned but it doesn’t feel as weighty and clunky as some of the other names in this category. I also like [name_f]Marianna[/name_f], it feels a bit more “current” because of all the other currently popular names ending in -anna ([name_f]Lilianna[/name_f], [name_f]Julianna[/name_f] etc).
