  1. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a name my parents liked.
  2. I love it in Spanish (Polly is not my full name) and it does fit me but I also don’t feel super connected to it for some reason.
  3. Everyone knows how to spell and pronounce my name, so that’s good. It’s fairly popular, so I’ve met a few of different ages it’s not a name you encounter in every classroom.
Reactions - there usually aren’t any reactions as everyone is very familiar with the name. However, when I was born, my Spanish grandpa asked my parents why the chose such an old name while being totally oblivious that it was quite popular for children and babies in Spain at the time, haha.
  4. It’s not possible to change you name in [name_u]Germany[/name_u] (there needs to be a very specific reason for it), but I do go by [name_f]Polly[/name_f] in English-speaking countries as I prefer that.
  5. It was in the top 50 (for many years before and still is).
  6. There was an ad that used the name in an unfortunate way but, surprisingly, I rarely got a comment about that.
  7. The way it sounds in [name_f]English[/name_f] and [name_u]French[/name_u], but I found ways around that, haha.
  8. [name_f]My[/name_f] first name is Latin, my first middle is Germanic and my second middle name is Greek.
  9. None that I’m aware of, really. There is a painter with the name, but I don’t think she was super popular outside of Europe.
  10. Hm, I just grew to like my first middle name (always liked the 2nd), so I’m not sure I’d change anything. Maybe I’d put another middle name, just so I have 5 rather than 4 names in total (I prefer odd numbers) but I wouldn’t know which name to include.
I think I would have liked to be a [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] or [name_f]Ofelia[/name_f], maybe an [name_f]Elinor[/name_f].
[name_f]My[/name_f] mom wanted to name my [name_f]Anoushka[/name_f], and I quite like that, but I’d want a shorter first name, maybe [name_f]Anna[/name_f] or [name_f]Anouk[/name_f].
She also really like [name_u]Marie[/name_u] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f].
    Maybe [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f]? [name_f]Anouk[/name_f] [name_f]Ofelia[/name_f] [name_u]Marie[/name_u]? Both nn [name_f]Anoushka[/name_f].

1. How did you get your name?
[name_f]My[/name_f] parents just liked it! I was originally gonna be [name_u]Genesis[/name_u] (or [name_m]Ean[/name_m] if I was a boy), but a relative suggested my name randomly and they really liked it so it became my name! [name_f]My[/name_f] middle name, [name_f]Rya[/name_f] (rye-uh), was after a family friend named [name_u]Ryan[/name_u]

2. What’s your opinion on your name?
I love it! I’m not the type of person you’d imagine someone with my name with but I think it suits me really well

3. What has been your experience? Have you met many people with it? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you feel like it fits you? Any cultural associations that effect you? How do people react to it? You get the point.
Overall I’ve had a good experience with my name! There’s always occasional comments about it (mostly online) where people say it’s either too religious or a stripper name but those don’t bother all that much. I’ve met kinda 2 people? [name_f]My[/name_f] little sister had someone with my name in her class but I only saw her and she was 4 years younger so :woman_shrugging: Other than that I knew a baby but eh. I think it fits me really well! Like I said before I’m not how people imagine someone with my name to be but it fits me well. No cultural associations with my name that effect me. People usually give me an “Oh!” Reaction when they hear my name, usually a good oh  I love hearing that

4. Have you ever thought about changing your name?
I mean I like to imagine what other names suit me or I would like to be named other than what I have, but I’ve never seriously thought about changing my first name, my middle name I’ve thought about changing or adding a second middle but not my first

5. On the year you were born, was your name on the Top #1000 or whatever it is for the country you’re in? If not, did it appear before or after?
Yea it was in the top 1000, it’s a lot higher now which makes sad :sob:

6. Have you ever been made fun of for your name?

Yea, like I said before I’ve seen people say it’s either too religious or stripper-ish, I’ve heard some stuff to my face but honestly can’t remember what I said just that it was offensive

6. What’s a certain pet peeve you have about your name? If you do or don’t have one, what’s one thing you love about your name?
No pet peeves that I can remember, but one thing I love about my name is the fact that it’s a more neutral name, I can’t imagine myself with a super frilly name

7. What are the origins/etymology on your name? (Meaning, Usage, Literature, Mythology, etc.) [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like the origin? [name_u]Or[/name_u] no strong feelings?
It’s biblical, I do like the Bible connection! I’d be totally fine if it didn’t have that though, just a cool association

8. In Pop culture, what are some associations your name has?
Ummm, I think there’s a singer with my name but I can’t think of anyone else off the top of my head

9. If you could change your name right now, what would you change it to? If you wouldn’t change it, what’s one name (Or combo) you would’ve loved to be born with?
Hmmmm, if I had to change it, probably to one of these~ [name_f]Amparo[/name_f], [name_f]Thalia[/name_f], [name_u]Denver[/name_u], [name_m]Deacon[/name_m], [name_u]River[/name_u], [name_m]Saturn[/name_m], [name_u]Omari[/name_u], [name_u]Harley[/name_u], [name_u]Nike[/name_u], [name_u]Max[/name_u], [name_u]Rio[/name_u], [name_u]Omari[/name_u], [name_u]Marvel[/name_u], [name_u]Rosario[/name_u], there’s probably a lot more but can’t remember

No, not seriously.

8. What are the origins/etymology on your name? (Meaning, Usage, Literature, Mythology , etc.) [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like the origin? [name_u]Or[/name_u] no strong feelings?
I won’t reveal too much about my name, but it’s of Russian origin. I love the meaning of my name, it suits me very well.

9. In Pop culture, what are some associations your name has?
Only the YouTuber, but no one outside Finland knows him.

10. If you could change your name right now, what would you change it to? If you wouldn’t change it, what’s one name (Or combo) you would’ve loved to be born with?
If I had to change my name, I would choose maybe [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], [name_u]Gabriel[/name_u] or [name_m]Gustav[/name_m].

My name: Brynn

  1. How did you get your name?

There was a kid named Brynn on the street my parents lived on while pregnant with me and they thought it was a cute name

  1. What’s your opinion on your name?

I like it! It isn’t my own naming style but I think it suits me well and I love that I don’t have to share it with people

  1. What has been your experience? Have you met many people with it?
Do you feel like it fits you? Any cultural associations that effect you? How do people react to it? You get the point.

I know people who know other Brynns but I have not met another in person (which I love). The most annoying this is that people usually pronounce it wrong (usually as Bryan or Brine). I’d say people get it right first try only about 25% of the time. More people (mostly younger people) are familiar with it since Dance Moms. It’s risen in popularity quite a lot since I was born so I get a lot of “oh my baby cousin is named Brynn” and things like that.

  1. Have you ever thought about changing your name?

nope!

  1. On the year you were born, was your name on the Top #1000 or whatever it is for the country you’re in? If not, did it appear before or after?

It was #616 when I was born

  1. Have you ever been made fun of for your name?

nope

  1. What’s a certain pet peeve you have about your name? If you do or don’t have one, what’s one thing you love about your name?

When reading it out loud people usually pronounce it Bryan or Brine. When I tell someone my name they often say “Brit? Bree?”

  1. What are the origins/etymology on your name? (Meaning, Usage, Literature, Mythology, etc.) Do you like the origin? Or no strong feelings?

It’s Welsh, and means hill

  1. In Pop culture, what are some associations your name has?

There was a Brynn on Dance Moms, other than that I’m not sure

  1. If you could change your name right now, what would you change it to? If you wouldn’t change it, what’s one name (Or combo) you would’ve loved to be born with?

I would love to have any of the names on my list! I could see myself as an Indie

  • How did you get your name?
My parents chose it. They loved the meaning and my dad liked the character in a short story with the same name.
  • What’s your opinion on your name?
I really love it!! I love the meaning and nickname potential.
  • What has been your experience? Have you met many people with it? Do you feel like it fits you? Any cultural associations that effect you? How do people react to it? You get the point.
I know a few other people with my name, more if you count the other spelling. I think it fits me pretty well. It’s a bit of a serious sounding name but with the different nicknames, there’s always something to fit how i’m feeling. There aren’t any real cultural associations. I have liked how it can also be said in Spanish, since when I was in Spanish class we always chose a Spanish name and I just got to keep my own. I’ve found most people get it right and can pronounce it pretty easily. It’s not the most common name but it’s fairly easy to get i’ve found.
  • Have you ever thought about changing your name?
    No
  • On the year you were born, was your name on the Top #1000 or whatever it is for the country you’re in? If not, did it appear before or after?
Yes it was. I think it was in the 500s.
  • Have you ever been made fun of for your name?
No I haven’t. I have thought of some ways I could be though for some reason  Saliva would be a good one
  • What’s a certain pet peeve you have about your name? If you do or don’t have one, what’s one thing you love about your name?
Hm, I guess just sometimes it sounds too serious when I say it, but I can always use a nickname. I love the meaning of it and all the nickname potential! And it just fits me.
  • What are the origins/etymology on your name? (Meaning, Usage, Literature, Mythology, etc.) Do you like the origin? Or no strong feelings? It means from the forest or girl of the woods. I can’t really think of that many uses of it in literature, but there are some famous bearers. It’s latin I think. I like it’s origins!
  • In Pop culture, what are some associations your name has? Sylvia Plath, Sylvia Fine
  • If you could change your name right now, what would you change it to? If you wouldn’t change it, what’s one name (Or combo) you would’ve loved to be born with? I’d love to be a Clara, Rowena or Daisy

  1. Hmm that’s a great question. I think my parents just liked it!
  2. I guess I like it. I mean, it’s not bad, I just think it could be better and it’s kind of awkward personally because it doesn’t quite fit me. And my middle is sooo common and quite frankly, boring!
  3. People often mispronounce, or more often, change my name when they are saying it, because it is very similar to a more common name. I haven’t met anyone, but I do know a netballer shares my name.
  4. Yes and no - not seriously. I don’t love it but it would be so much effort to go through to change it and I know I’d never be able to settle on a combo I love.
  5. I’ve never thought about this at all, but looking online it was outside the top 1000 (3000ish), but in the years after it climbed the ranks drastically and is now sitting at around 600! [name_f]My[/name_f] parents must be influencers lol
  6. No
  7. I hate when people call me a name that has 1 letter added to mine - it does my head in! It’s not even a pronunciation error - like seriously, can people not read or something? I know this happens to a LOT of people and on behalf of all of us I am seriously peeved
  8. The meaning is something like ‘jewel’ I think. I don’t really have any strong feelings.
  9. There might be a countess??? Not that I’ve commonly heard at all
  10. As I said before, I have no clue what I would change it to. Maybe something slightly more mainstream. I kind of like Josephine/Jo which I think was on my parent’s shortlist.

How did you get your name?

[name_f]My[/name_f] mother chose it – my first name is after her youngest brother and my middle name after her only sister.

What's your opinion on your name?

I’m okay with it. It’s not what I would have chosen for myself, but I appreciate what it means to my mother.

What has been your experience? Have you met many people with it? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you feel like it fits you?

[name_f]My[/name_f] experience is that if someone reads it, they cannot pronounce it; if they hear it, they cannot spell it. But I’m used to it, and it is not annoying at all – just amusing!
It was pretty popular in the late '90s/ early '00s, so I’ve met plenty of other girls with my name. It’s just that there are about a billion different ways to spell it!
I don’t really feel like it suits me, tbh. I’d prefer something a bit more timeless.

Have you ever thought about changing your name?

Yes, but not seriously. I know I never would.

In the year you were born, was your name in the Top 1000 for your country?

Yep!

Have you ever been made fun of for your name?

No, but funny story: This one guy I dated my second year in college kept nicknaming me until I got a little annoyed and asked him why he didn’t just use my name. Then he bluntly told me that he hated my name! I had never had anyone say that to me before, and it made me a little self-conscious about introducing myself after that.
(Oh, and, needless to say, that was the end of that relationship.)

What's a certain pet peeve you have about your name?

The spelling. Honestly, I think I’d like it more if it were spelt differently. Not much differently; I’d just like to remove one letter.

If you wouldn't change it, what's one name you would've loved to be born with?

[name_f]Natasha[/name_f] – I just think it would suit me.

  1. [name_f]My[/name_f] name is one of three my parents agreed they both liked and they wanted to honor my great great grandmother by using her initial, so that’s how they narrowed it down to my actual name.

  2. I’m okay with it. I don’t love love it, but it’s nice and I think it fits me. I wouldn’t choose it for myself, but because I’ve lived with it for so long, it feels very me.

  3. It’s very common (hit its peak in the top 20 about about 15-20 years before I was born) and so people always know how to spell it, usually how to pronounce it (it technically has two acceptable pronunciations), etc.

  4. Nope, as I said, I’ve lived with it for too long!

  5. Yes, it’s still well within in the top 1000.

  6. No, not really. People occasionally do call it dated though.

  7. I don’t like the less common pronunciation of my name. I know it has to do with accents and people usually can’t control it, but I just hate the sound.

  8. It means “victory” and I think comes from Latin. No strong feelings, I don’t really care about the meaning.

  9. Various famous people. [name_f]My[/name_f] name isn’t one of those where you immediately think of one specific person.

  10. That changes over time. I don’t want to change my name because I don’t want to regret it later, my favorite names are constantly changing. Well anyways, at the moment probably either [name_f]Eve[/name_f] or [name_f]Lydia[/name_f].

  1. i chose it !! Revere had been on my list for a long time but i never considered it for myself (luca, lorenzo, and roman had been my top contenders). i’m not sure why i started considering it! but it felt right. i chose August as the middle because Amadeus felt stuffy and i didn’t like the meaning. August was a bit out of the blue, honestly lol
  2. i adore it!! i think i picked well. sometimes i feel like other names would fit me better (mainly theodore and luca), but most of the time, i like revere the most. my only regret is not choosing an Italian name, since my deadname was very Italian and i’m really connected to that part of my ethnic identity. but choosing a name that i loved was more important to me :))
  3. i’ve never met anyone with my name. i do think it fits me !! i usually get “oh, as in paul revere?” which isn’t ideal but i can live with it
  4. fun fact: i’m the only Revere my age in America :)) so i think it’s safe to say that it was nowhere near the charts when i was born! and it still isn’t even close - i think 13 Revere’s were born in 2020?
  5. thankfully, no. i don’t think any bullying could come from it, anyways
  6. i don’t like the paul revere association. i love how it looks, how it sounds, and the nickname rev
  7. Revere is a verb meaning “to admire.” August is not only a month; it also means “admired.” that was not intentional !! but i think it’s funny, i kind of like it
  8. maybe paul revere and august from wonder ??
  9. if i had to change it, i’d probably make it Theodore August or Theodore Florence. one thing that makes me not like Theodore is the meaning, but i’d just say that the meaning is “divine gift” and apply it in the greek mythology context lol

My mum liked it, that’s all.

It’s not exciting by any means, it’s just a typical early-2000s name. I like its minimalistic look though.

I’ve met loads. It’s a name associated with a stereotype, which doesn’t fit me at all. People don’t really react, such an ordinary name

Oh yes definitely. I remember thinking about changing my name as a 6 year old

It’s not just the name itself though, now it’s more of gender-related reasons.

My name was #20, two double barrelled variants were around #50s and #80s.

Some mention the stereotype.

Pet peeve: the stereotype probably
Love: uhhh the fact that my mum loved it

It’s a place name in Iran, but as a name it’s made up. Means white.

A poor quality pop singer :grimacing:

If there weren’t language barriers, Laurence  Realistically Ira.

Since I’m bored I might as well answer my own questions, lol.

  1. [name_f]My[/name_f] first name, [name_f]Isis[/name_f], was chosen by my Dad. Before I was born he read this book called The [name_f]Isis[/name_f] Papers by Dr. [name_f]Frances[/name_f] Cress Welsing, the book was pretty enlightening to my father and of course, he loved it. Another reason is because my birthday just so happened to fall on [name_f]Easter[/name_f] [name_f]Sunday[/name_f], which is the day of rebirth. [name_f]Isis[/name_f] is the goddess of many things including rebirth, so that’s how that happened. [name_f]My[/name_f] middle name, [name_f]Ciara[/name_f], (SEE-AHR-UH) was chosen by my Mother. [name_f]Inspiration[/name_f] from the popular singer, [name_f]Ciara[/name_f].

  2. I love it. In my opinion it’s fits me perfectly. I’ve come a long way to say the least. The roots behind [name_f]Isis[/name_f] and the goddess is powerful, and [name_f]Ciara[/name_f] just sounds so pretty. Call me pretentious, but I love the meaning “woman of the throne”. I also like it because it’s distinguishing.

  3. [name_f]My[/name_f] experience has been okay really. I only met 1 person with the name [name_f]Isis[/name_f], she was fun. As far as reactions it’s nothing extremely big. Usually “Interesting.”, “Isis?”, “Beautiful/Pretty name”.

  4. [name_f]Kinda[/name_f]? I mostly just went by my middle name really. But seriously consider it? No not really.

  5. [name_f]My[/name_f] first name was #606

  6. Not really? It’s mostly on the internet people make harsh comments of my name to be honest. People comment on the terrorist thing, but it never dug too deep into my skin.

  7. The main and only thing that psses me off is that people don’t know [name_f]Isis[/name_f] is in fact a legitmate name. I heard some people (indirectly) say I need to change my name, or that my parents are asholes and don’t love me. It’s doesn’t effect me too much because my parents chose my name out of love and for a reason. I like [name_f]Ciara[/name_f], but I don’t like how many pronunciations it has. Oh, and corny jokes. “Isis, you’re blowing me away!” “Isis, stop blowing up my phone”, you know, stuff like that.

  8. The name [name_f]Isis[/name_f] is an Ancient Egyptian meaning “woman of the throne”. [name_f]Isis[/name_f] was a pretty major goddess worshiped around. [name_f]Ciara[/name_f] is an [name_f]English[/name_f] variant of [name_u]Sierra[/name_u], meaning “mountain range”. I like the origins of [name_f]Isis[/name_f], very cool.

  9. [name_f]Isis[/name_f] [name_m]King[/name_m]? The band? [name_u]Archer[/name_u]?

  10. Well, I wouldn’t change my name. But I like the name [name_f]Alina[/name_f], and [name_f]Gaia[/name_f]. I think that’s very pretty. I’m not 100% sure about a combo though. [name_f]Nefertari[/name_f] [name_f]Yvette[/name_f] sounds pretty though. [name_f]Yvette[/name_f] honoring my grandmother.

My name is Jack. It’s a nickname, but that’s what I go by 95% of the time IRL.

  1. How did you get your name?

I chose it myself, as well as my legal first name.

  1. What’s your opinion on your name?

I love it. I think it really suits me.

  1. What has been your experience? Have you met many people with it? Do you feel like it fits you? Any cultural associations that effect you? How do people react to it? You get the point.

Jack is a name that’s common enough to be familiar, but honestly not so much that I meet them everywhere. I feel like it suits me very well, and there are enough cultural associations with it that one doesn’t stick out— which is kind of nice.

  1. Have you ever thought about changing your name?

I already did lol.

  1. On the year you were born, was your name on the Top #1000 or whatever it is for the country you’re in? If not, did it appear before or after?

I’m pretty sure it was, and still is.

  1. Have you ever been made fun of for your name?

No.

  1. What’s a certain pet peeve you have about your name? If you do or don’t have one, what’s one thing you love about your name?

I love that my name is easy for people to spell and pronounce, my birth name got messed up all the time and it drove me crazy. The closest thing I have to a pet peeve about my name is that “Jack” is not an intuitive nickname for my full name and some people have trouble with that.

  1. What are the origins/etymology on your name? (Meaning, Usage, Literature, Mythology, etc.) Do you like the origin? Or no strong feelings?

I have no strong feelings about it, honestly. My legal name is a nature name, intentionally so, and that’s much more important to me.

  1. In Pop culture, what are some associations your name has?

Jack Frost, Jack-In-The-Box, Jack Skellington (ugh… this is the only one that bugs me), “Jack-of-all-trades,” Jack from Titanic… like I said, there are tons of them lol

  1. If you could change your name right now, what would you change it to? If you wouldn’t change it, what’s one name (Or combo) you would’ve loved to be born with?

I wouldn’t want to change it again, but if I did, I’d either be Simon, Kennedy, or Rowan.

I’m ethnically Sri Lankan and in Sri Lanka, it’s tradition for parents to go to a “professional” namer who will look at the child’s horoscope and then provide a list of names that will bring them luck. So, my parents selected the names that they liked the best from the list that the professional namer gave us. My mum’s name starts with a T and my dad’s starts with an S, and I share their initials because my name is T… Senara. I go by my middle name, because ever since I was born, my extended family called me by it and it stuck. It’s also generally easier for people in Australia to pronounce. I love both names equally though.

Oh my gosh, I ADORE my names. I’m so grateful that my parents chose it for me, and I think that it’s absolutely perfect in every single way possible.

As I said earlier, I adore my name. I haven’t met a single person with my name. I also feel that it fits my personality to a T, excluding the fact that the meaning of my name is a bit too grandiose for someone like me. When people hear my name, they usually go “oh, that’s interesting”, or “oh, that’s really pretty”, or something along those lines.

Nope, and I wouldn’t change it for a billion dollars.

No

I haven’t been made fun of for my first or middle name, however people have made a couple jokes about my last names, but it’s harmless fun really and it doesn’t bother me much.

I don’t have a pet peeve. I love that my name is meaningful, and connects me to my heritage and family.

My first name is Sri Lankan, but my middle name has mixed origins. My first name is the shortened version of the name of an ancient Sri Lankan Queen. According to Nameberry, Senara means ‘light’, however according to the professional namer that my parents went to, it means ‘great leader’. Going with the meaning that he gave my parents, T… Senara means ‘the great leader who is the most beautiful of the three worlds.’ Do I match that description? Not really
Overall, I really like the origins of my name.

None

I wouldn’t want to be named anything else, and I can’t think of names that suit me as the one that I was given.

Honestly, I think I wrote a whole novel! Anyway, thank you @isisciara for making this questionnaire. It was so much fun!

  1. [name_f]My[/name_f] parents were looking for an international name, and apparently it was the only one on their list :woman_shrugging:

  2. I used to feel meh about it, but I really like it now.

  3. [name_f]My[/name_f] best friend has the same name as me, and I also know another person with the name. I do think it suits me!

  4. I used to dream about having a different name, but now I wouldn’t change it.

  5. It was in the Top 100 and still is.

  6. I’ve had a certain rhyme word thrown at me a few times, but otherwise, no.

  7. That people nearly always ask how it’s spelt, even though I have the most obvious and common spelling of my name :woman_facepalming:

  8. It has loads of different origins and is used all over the place … as well as having ties to Greek mythology, it’s also Hebrew and a [name_m]Roman[/name_m] goddess‘ name.

  9. There’s a famous author and a TV presenter with the name

  10. I don’t think I’d change it, but if I had to, something lovely like [name_f]Nora[/name_f] or [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] would’ve suited me.

  • How did you get your name?

My mom was always a big fan of the actress Hayley Mills, she tweaked the spelling and was between Hayleigh and Haley, my dad said a kindergartener wouldn’t be able to spell Hayleigh, so I became Haley

  • What’s your opinion on your name?

I wish it was easier to spell/less variations on spelling, but I like it.

  • What has been your experience? Have you met many people with it? Do you feel like it fits you? Any cultural associations that effect you? How do people react to it? You get the point.

I’ve met a few Haleys and a few Alannahs. I think it suits me well enough, but for a while when I was a teenager, there were comments on the internet about it being a “str*pper” name or “tr/shy” which really bothered me. A lot of people (like, a majority) spell it wrong though which annoys me when it’s people who already know me  Like my aunt, who has spelled it wrong for the last 25 years, with no effort to even try and get it right?

  • Have you ever thought about changing your name?

So much! Until I was 21, I was set on changing it.

  • On the year you were born, was your name on the Top #1000 or whatever it is for the country you’re in? If not, did it appear before or after?

My name was #32 when I was born. It’s still in the top 1000.

  • Have you ever been made fun of for your name?

Not really? I was teased for my weight (which is weird because I was underweight?) so I got Haley the hippo and stuff like that, but otherwise, no.

  • What’s a certain pet peeve you have about your name? If you do or don’t have one, what’s one thing you love about your name?

I hate that there’s so many ways to spell it and mine should be the simplest, but it’s never the default. I do love that it fits my own naming style though.

  • What are the origins/etymology on your name? (Meaning, Usage, Literature, Mythology, etc.) Do you like the origin? Or no strong feelings?

So from everything I’ve found, my name is English and means “hay clearing” or “hay meadow”, however, I have a plaque that was custom ordered when I was born, and it says that my name is Scandinavian and means “hero” which was part of why my mom chose it for me - it was printed in a baby name book in the 90s that it meant this, but I’ve never seen anything else that says it. My middle name can mean beautiful or darling, so my mom liked that it sort of translated to “beautiful hero” :woman_shrugging:t3:

  • In Pop culture, what are some associations your name has?

In a 5 Seconds of Summer song (I think Lost in Reality?), they sing “hey hey Haley”, we think? My sister pointed this out when the song came out and now I can’t unhear it. Genius lyrics says it’s Haley . I remember being flattered that my name was in it! I also remember an American Idol contestant named Haley, and another American Idol alumni had a song called Hey Hey Haley and I tweeted him something like “thanks for writing this about me” (I was 15) and he replied with “anytime darlin!” and I think I cried (it was definitely not about me).

  • If you could change your name right now, what would you change it to? If you wouldn’t change it, what’s one name (Or combo) you would’ve loved to be born with?

I think I’d just change it to something like Stephanie or Kelly, one of my own favourites  I would have loved to have had a family name though.

  1. Mum’s choice - she got to name a girl, Dad got to name a boy. Not the best strategy for naming children as it means Dad didn’t really care about my name either way.
  2. Overused, especially with my middle. Familiar though, everyone knows how to spell it, I like that it’s an older/classic name.
  3. Sooooo many people. I remember my secondary maths class having 2 Emmas, 2 Ellas, 3 Emilys, 2 Ellens etc. etc. I guess it fits me though.
  4. Mum always jokes I can change it if I want but I can’t really be bothered.
  5. Ha. Yes. Definitely top 20, might have been top 10. Stayed in the top 20 until I was like 20-21. Still fairly common now even as it finally slips down the charts.
  6. Not my first name - my surname had some teasing potential.
  7. No real pet peeves. Best thing about my name was that you could always find it on a keychain, even in other countries! Great part of having an internationally recognised name.
  8. I’ve been told it means universal and is Germanic. I don’t care about name meanings personally.
  9. Friends - I’ve never watched it.
  10. I probably wouldn’t change it. I always wanted to be called [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] as a child, which makes me laugh because [name_u]Abi[/name_u] is as popular as [name_f]Emma[/name_f]!
  1. [name_f]My[/name_f] mom chose it because it matched best with my older sister’s name.
  2. I like it! It’s really popular and kind of overused but I do think it’s beautiful.
  3. I have always gotten only nice things about my name. I have met countless people with my name. I do think it fits me although sometimes because it’s so popular it’s hard for me to truly bond with it. No cultural associations although where I lived had an alternate spelling that was more popular and I was pretty annoyed when it would be wrong.
  4. I have never thought about changing my name.
  5. [name_f]My[/name_f] name was in the top #50 when I was born and has been in the top #10 for the last decade I think.
  6. No
  7. There’s a nn that quite common with it and I don’t like how it sounds when people call me nn lastname. I think it sounds childish.
  8. Greek and it means wisdom! I have always loved the origin!
  9. There’s a certain little kid princess show with my name and the younger ones in my family tend to call me by the show’s title.
  10. I really love my full name but if I could make it a different combo I would probably be [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] as my mother loved the mn [name_f]Elise[/name_f] but went with [name_f]Elena[/name_f] to honor family.

how did you get your name?
my older cousin suggested it to my parents and they liked it!

what’s your opinion on your name?
it’s okay, it’s a little boring in my opinion, but i do like the sound and look of it

what has been your experience?
i’ve met quite a lot of people with my name, from adults, to babies, all the way back to a hannah born in the 1600s in my family tree! it’s been consistently popular but that doesn’t really bother me. i don’t think it fits me majorly, which is why i like to go by annie which i feel suits me a lot more! people don’t really react to it, which is probably because it’s so common

have you ever thought about changing your name?
i wanted to change it when i was younger but not anymore

on the year you were born, was your name on the top #1000 or whatever it is for the country you’re in? if not, did it appear before or after?
yup! hannah ranked at #11 the year i was born, and i think it was in the top 1000 for a while before and is still there now (it ranked at #22 in 2020)

have you ever been made fun of for your name?
nope

what’s a certain pet peeve you have about your name? if you do or don’t have one, what’s one thing you love about your name?
probably it’s popularity? one thing i do love is that it’s a palindrome! which even at (almost) sixteen years old i still think is super cool

what are the origins/etymology on your name?
it’s a hebrew/biblical name, the origin doesn’t bother me really, i’m not religious but since my name is so popular the fact it’s biblical doesn’t bother me

in pop culture, what are some associations your name has?
hannah montana is probably the biggest one, people used to call me that all the time when i was younger

other than that i can’t think of any major ones (again since it’s popular there are quite a lot of celebrites/characters with my name)

if you could change your name right now, what would you change it to?
maybe something like eleanor or frances? a pretty name with lots of cool nickname potential
