Usability (in my opinion): 1 (unusable) - 10 (definitely usable)

Girls –

Jemison “Jemmy” (8/10) – Could be confused with Jameson, but otherwise I don’t see anything wrong with it
Persephone “Percy” (9/10) – Although I have encountered pronunciation issues here and there, I like it and think it’s usable! Percy on a girl is adorable.
Delta “Delly” (3/10) – Difficult one. Here’s a topic with many different viewpoints on the usability of this name, if you’d like some more insights. I personally think it isn’t really usable at the moment but could be in future, under the right circumstances.
Margot Xanthea (10/10) – Xanthea is fun and quirky and is definitely usable in the middle in my opinion. Max is an ingenious nickname!
ScotlandScout” (7/10) – Scotland “Scout” is adorable, and Scotland is a wonderful place, but it’s one of those names that I would only use if it had a meaning behind it (like a personal connection to the country)
FinlayFin” (8/10) – Finley’s well established for a girl, so it’s only the occasional spelling correction that might be necessary, perfectly usable
Endellion “Delly” (7/10) – Such an elegant name! I think it could work!

Boys –
D’Artagnan “Dart” (6/10) – A very cool name, but especially the difficult pronunciation and the apostrophe could cause problems, although I’m not sure how many people will be familiar with the name due to the novels
Asa “Ace” (10/10) – Love it! Definitely usable.
Caspian “Cass” (10/10) – Love the fantasy-esque feel. Usable!
Finnick “Finn” (9/10) – I’d take a point of for the term “finicky”, but otherwise it’s an offbeat yet recognisable name with potential
Paxton “Pax” (10/10) – Definitely usable! Pax is a great nickname.
Rhyolite “Rye” (4/10) – GP for me unfortunately, although it does have the build to work: Fairly intuitive pronunciation, familiar nickname
TobiasToby” (10/10) – 100% usable

Lovely list overall! My personal favourites are Margot Xanthea “Max”, Scotland “Scout”, Asa, and Caspian

the rating based on usability is a great idea by the way !

girls

jemison ‘jemmy’ - 9/10 i definitely think this is usable, it seems to fit nicely with lots of popular names too, with a fun twist !the only difficulty may be the similarity to jameson or even jemma that could be annoying, but after correction it is sort of a non-issue

persephone ‘percy’ - 7/10 i have met a persephone - the amount of struggle over the pronunciation for people was more often than i thought :joy: but i don’t think it is too daring for the first name, if that is an important consideration for usability

delta - 6/10 ehh i mean the virus teasing potential is more of a thing adults than young kids would pick up on, so currently i wouldn’t say it is as usable but if you aren’t planning on kids for a while i’d say go for it. if you’re easily talked out of a name due to the association i’d probably avoid it in the first name. but it is a super cool name, i would love to meet a delta

margot xanthea ‘max’ - 9/10 very cool and quirky name i love, maybe you might have to explain the nickname in terms of the combination but i don’t see a reason why it is not useable :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

scotland ‘scout’ - 8/10 i mean you may get a few questions, it could be assumed that you have a connection to the country, but like jemison it doesn’t really stand out as an outlier to current trends (place names especially !)

finlay ‘fin’ - 10/10 i am not sure why this quite unisex name wouldn’t be usable to be honest , i wouldn’t be surprised to meet a girl with this name

endellion ‘delly’ - 7/10 very cute, i do struggle sometimes to see it as a name in the first name spot, but it could work for sure with the nickname too !

boys

d’artagnan ‘dart’ - 3/10 wow the nicknames you come up are so fun ! this name i do think majority of people will struggle as amazing as the sound is :sob:, there is a french name, agnan, you may also have considered ?

asa ‘ace’ - 10/10 go for it ! i think this name is familiar enough to people for it to be perfectly usable

caspian ‘cass’ 10/10 i can’t think of any issues with usability here, especially since i think this name is due to rise in the next few years

finnick ‘finn’ - 10/10 this name is a really nice alternative to finley !

paxton ‘pax’ - 10/10 you can’t really mix up the look and pronunciation with another name, and it feels trendy to me so i’d say usable for sure

rhyolite ‘rye’ - 3/10 for the brave namer although i would reserve it for the middle name spot, i haven’t heard it used as a name before other than the rock

tobias ‘toby’ - 10/10 no problems here !

I’ll rate them out of 10

  • Jemison “Jemmy” - 6 - it’s pretty cute and different and feels like it fits with other contemporary names like Emerson and Avery

  • Persephone “Percy” -8 -elegant, cool and strong

  • Delta “Delly” -9 -I love, love this name! So spunky and cool! It loses a point for being related to the pandemic

  • Margot Xanthea “Max” -7 -Margot is so warm and lovely and Xanthea is pretty interesting and cool. Max makes a versatile nickname too, though I do think Margot Xanthe would be nice

  • Scotland “Scout” -6 -I find it a tiny bit awkward but maybe that’s because I’m in the UK? I absolutely love Scout though!!

  • Finlay “Fin” (pronounced like Finley) - 6.5 - nms but Finlay is really cute and Fin for a girl is super cute

  • Endellion “Delly” -9 -beautiful and bold!! Nn Delly/Dell make it feel more wearable too

  • D’artagnan “Dart” - 8 - this is super cool! Literary and adventurous!

  • Asa “Ace” -8 -stylish and sparky

  • Caspian “Cass” -9 -bright and elegant!

  • Finnick “Finn” - 7 -sharp and sleek!

  • Paxton “Pax” -8 -Pax is so cute and Paxton feels cool and stylish

  • Rhyolite “Rye” (pronounced Ry-oh-light) -7 - ooh this is really interesting! A bit unexpected and different but I like it

  • Tobias “Toby” -9 -elegant and lovely!!

8/10- Jemison is okay. I definitely think it’s usable, but I don’t really love it. Jemmy is adorable though.
8/10- Perseohone “Percy” is both quirky and beautiful at the same time. I wouldn’t personally use this one, but I would be thrilled to meet a little Persephone.
1/10- In normal times, I would like this one, but not now. It’s just not usable.
10/10- I love Margot. Is that Margot with the middle name Xanthea? Both Margot and Margot Xanthea have very strong sounds and a little girl would be lucky to have this as a name. I love the nickname Max.
5/10- Scotland is so tied to he place, it doesn’t sound as much like a child. I love Scout though.
7/10- Finlay is adorable. I think I prefer the Finley spelling for a girl, but this name is so sweet.
9/10- I love how strong and powerful this name sounds. Delly gives it a softer sound so I think it’s nice to give little Endellion options.

4/10- I don’t think D’artagnan is very usable due to mispronounciation. I like Dart though.
8/10- This one isn’t my style, but it’s definitely usable. I like the nickname Ace.
9/10- Caspian is one of my favorite names and “Cass” is adorable. I give it a 9/10 because it is definitely a grand choice but you can’t go wrong.
10/10- Finnick is a quirky (in a good way), unique choice that I would even probably use.
10/10- I think Paxton “Pax” is definitely usable.
4/10- Rhyolite feels more like a chemical, not a child. Cool sound though.
9/10- Another one of more favorites. Like Caspian, I’m giving it a 9/10 because of it’s grand feeling, but Toby is darling.
My favorites from your list are Margot Xanthea “Max”, Finlay “Fin”, Endellion “Delly”, Caspian “Cass”, Finnick “Finn”, and Tobias “Toby”

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

I’ll do my favorite to least favorite:

Girls-

Endellion-It’s not a name that I’m usually into, but I kind of like the regal-ness & mystical-ness of it. The nn [name_f]Delly[/name_f] is kind of cute too.

[name_f]Margot[/name_f] Xanthea-I think that I’d do [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] instead, but [name_f]Margot[/name_f] nn [name_u]Max[/name_u] is fun. I prefer [name_u]Max[/name_u] for a boy, but since it would have a feminine full name it works.

Jemison -Is it after the astronaut? If so, love the sentiment more than the sound of the name. But I love it in theory & [name_u]Jemmy[/name_u] is pretty fun. I wonder if the nn [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] would work if you’re into that.

Persephone-I really want to like this, but it reminds me too much of [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f]. It’s a neat name anyway. I don’t like [name_u]Percy[/name_u] that much, but it’s not bad. Prefer the nn [name_u]Penny[/name_u] or [name_u]Pip[/name_u].

Finlay-I love [name_u]Finlay[/name_u] for a boy, & it’s getting a tad trendy on girls. Something about the [name_m]Fin[/name_m] spelling does make it look kind of feminine though, so I do like that nn.

Scotland-I’m not finding [name_u]Scotland[/name_u] that attractive as a girl name. Sounds a little heavy, but the nn [name_u]Scout[/name_u] is adorable.

Delta-I still like [name_f]Delly[/name_f], but not into [name_f]Delta[/name_f]. It feels clunky to me. Plus, the whole variant thing. :joy:

Boys-

Asa-Love [name_u]Asa[/name_u]! It’s gentle yet feels kind of woodsman-like too. It’s simple & unique & old fashioned & the nn [name_u]Ace[/name_u] is adorable.

Caspian-Very handsome & strong & lovable & mystical. I like [name_u]Cass[/name_u] (or Cas) & also Caspi.

Finnick-Not my favorite [name_u]Finn[/name_u] name, but I love love [name_u]Finn[/name_u] anyway. Prefer just [name_u]Finn[/name_u] or [name_m]Finnian[/name_m].

Fergus-Kind of cute & quirky. [name_u]Gus[/name_u] is charming.

Tobias-I don’t mind it. I’m not sure why I can’t get into this. It feels like a name I should like. I think that I just don’t like the ‘Toe’ part.

Paxton-It just feels a bit trendy, even though it’s really not. [name_u]Pax[/name_u] does look & sound cool.

Rhyolite-This is just a bit much. It’s hard to say & spell. I like the nn [name_u]Rye[/name_u] spelled this way. Maybe because I love the bread!

D’artagnan-This is just way too complicated. And I don’t think that [name_m]Dart[/name_m] is all that attractive, although sort of clever.

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.

@planetnames
Thank you!

On the topic of Scotland…I do (as does the rest of my family) have a connection to [name_u]Scotland[/name_u]. It would be used to honor my mom!

@aiksx
I never even thought of the delta variant tbh. I don’t plan on having kids for another 10ish years so hopefully by then it won’t be an issue. But it’s good to keep in mind.

The only reason I thought [name_u]Finlay[/name_u] may not be usable is bc of it ending in -lay instead of -ley.

I’ve been struggling to find a full name for the nickname [name_u]Rye[/name_u]. Then I started taking geology and we were talking about rhyolites in class and it just clicked! Still haven’t decided if it’s usable or should stay on the GP list.

Thank you!

@Greyblue
Thanks you!

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f]! I just thought [name_f]Margot[/name_f] Xanthea flows slightly better.

I live in [name_u]America[/name_u], so I hear the names [name_u]Paris[/name_u], [name_u]Ireland[/name_u], [name_u]Holland[/name_u], [name_u]London[/name_u], etc all the time so I figured [name_u]Scotland[/name_u] wasn’t too out there (plus it’s an honor). However, if I ever moved or lived in the UK I probably wouldn’t use it.

@Larryisalittledog
I would probably be first name [name_f]Margot[/name_f] and middle name Xanthea, but I haven’t decided if I would make it two first names.

Rhyolite is a type of igneous rock (comes from volcanoes). Not a chemical, but I can see why you say it sounds like one.

Thank you!

@MichelleM
Yes! Jemison is after [name_f]Mae[/name_f] Jemison! So glad someone caught that! I adore the name Jem/Jemmy, not a huge fan of [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] (makes me think of [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] Mouse).

Yeah…never even thought of the variant lol. Probably won’t use it anytime soon.

Thank you!
