I love the name [name]Reece[/name] for a boy. I am due in 3 days any my husband and I still cannot agree on a name. He likes [name]Reece[/name], but doesn’t love it because someone told him it’s a girl’s name.
Please tell me what you think! If it is too much of a girl’s name then I will agree to something else, but I don’t know what the general perception is.
It is one of a few truly unisex names; I don’t think it’s too skewed toward girls. The spellings [name]Reece[/name] and [name]Rhys[/name] are used for boys (both are ranked in the 400s) while [name]Reese[/name] is ranked at 130 for girls. When you combine the two boys’ spellings vs. the “girl” spelling, they kind of even out.
I love this name on boys and girls. It definitely does NOT feel like a frilly, soft or “girly” name [name]IMO[/name]; instead, it’s crisp, sharp, and clean to me. [name]Love[/name] it.
Perhaps you could assuage your husband’s doubts by spelling it [name]Rhys[/name] (the most masculine/rarely-used-by-girls spelling).
I love [name]Rhys[/name]/[name]Reece[/name]! It’s a very handsome boys’ name, and I honestly don’t see the appeal on girls. I didn’t know the statistics, but if they are as @ellenelle stated, then I wouldn’t be too worried at all! I would use [name]Avery[/name] for a son in a heartbeat, and we all know how popular that is on girls.
[name]Do[/name] you have any MNs picked out? I would just make sure to go with something 100% masculine, that way he could go by that if [name]Reece[/name]/[name]Rhys[/name] does end up being a nightmare for him (which, I can’t imagine that it ever would be, but just to be on the safe side, you know…).
[name]Reece[/name] is all boy to me,just by sound. I’m more a fan of the [name]Rhys[/name] spelling, but [name]Reece[/name] is good too.
Find it so odd it’s a uni sex name in the US!
I have known both males and females named [name]Reece[/name]. Usually girls spell it [name]Reese[/name] though as pps have stated. I personally cannot stand the [name]Rhys[/name] spelling whatsoever. It looks more like rice to me than [name]Reece[/name]. I think [name]Reece[/name] works absolutely fine on a boy. It is by no means a girls name.
I’ve only ever known boy Reeces, and that’s the more masculine spelling vs [name]Reese[/name], which has become the more-used feminine form thanks to Ms Witherspoon. Though I’d say spelling it [name]Rhys[/name] would alleviate any gender confusion.
I love the [name]Rhys[/name] spelling because it is the original non-Americanized spelling. It looks very cool. And I am starting to see it more and more. I would go with it…but use [name]Rhys[/name]! It is way too cool to not use. Seriously.
My son is named [name]Rhys[/name]. I went with the [name]Reece[/name] spelling when he was born, but people thought it was a girl when written. I changed the apelling when he waa 3 weeks old to [name]Rhys[/name] and people may not always know how to say it at first, but they know it is a boy! It is an awesome name.
If [name]Reece[/name] is the name you love, use [name]Reece[/name]. Giving your son a name that is used for girls will not make him any less masculine.
You may not want my opinion. Since I’m considering [name]Kenzie[/name] for my son, I’m not exactly neutral on the subject of unisex names.
However, I agree with pp that [name]Reece[/name] is a truly unisex name that really does not trend toward either gender. And this is a name I prefer for boys. I think it is a strong name for boys.
The spelling choice is tricky. I prefer [name]Reece[/name], but a pp with more experience with the name says [name]Rhys[/name] is better. I’m always a fan of names that are easy to spell and pronounce, which [name]Rhys[/name] is not. As someone told me, if they think your son is a girl, it will only be on paper, not in person.

I like [name]Rhys[/name] a lot actually. Or [name]Reece[/name]. Either one for a boy would be good. Go with your gut. If you feel it’s your baby’s name, then go with it! Good [name]Luck[/name]!
