Starting over! If you had a son named Cruz

I’ve decided I don’t like ANY of the names on my girls’ list well enough to actually name a child that. And suddenly I’m unsure of the boys’ names I like, too.

I like unusual names that are not weird, preferably nothing in the top 200 (though there were a few exceptions on my old list). I just really want to fall in love with the name.

At this point, I will take ANY suggestions so I can start a new list.

If it helps, my old boys’ list included [name]Cassius[/name] “[name]Cash[/name]”, [name]Canyon[/name] and [name]Texas[/name] “[name]Tex[/name]”. Girls’ list was fairly eclectic and included both [name]Laila[/name] and [name]Sailor[/name]. I have scoured this site and many, many baby name books in search of the perfect name…nothing screams out at me so far.

So what do you think [name]Cruz[/name] [name]Roman[/name]'s sibling should be named?

Some names that immediately come to mind for boys are [name]Dash/name (though [name]Cruz[/name] and [name]Dash[/name] could be a bit funny together), [name]Tucker[/name], [name]Jett[/name] (ditto [name]Dash[/name]), [name]Dallas[/name], and [name]Wyatt[/name]. For girls [name]Liza[/name], [name]Violet[/name], [name]Fiona[/name], [name]Willow[/name], and [name]Bea[/name] popped into my head.

Want to go over your list, it’s pretty awesome–you have great taste in names, and I’m not just saying that because you said [name]Cruz[/name] [name]Roman[/name] is cool. :slight_smile:

Boys first:

[name]Dashiell[/name]/[name]Dash[/name]–I [name]LOVE[/name] this name. I discounted it for the same reason I’m having doubts about [name]Cassius[/name]/[name]Cash[/name]–I have a niece named [name]Ashton[/name] who we often call [name]Ash[/name] ([name]Ash[/name] & [name]Cash[/name]/[name]Ash[/name] & [name]Dash[/name]). It’s not a huge deal, as [name]Ashton[/name] is 19 and in college 50 miles away, but still…if there’s something else out there, I’d like to find it!

[name]Tucker[/name]–I like it in theory, but know someone called this. It’s his last name, but EVERYONE calls him [name]Tucker[/name]/[name]Tuck[/name].

[name]Jett[/name]–On my list for either boy or girl. I love it, it’s just not hitting me as THE ONE.

[name]Dallas[/name]–I had a dog named [name]Dallas[/name] who died about two years ago. Not that I’m opposed to using the name for a child, but it seems a bit odd!

[name]Wyatt[/name]–My cousin’s son’s name. Can’t use it!

[name]Damian[/name]–Also had a dog named this. Same thing as [name]Dallas[/name]–I love the name, but don’t know how people would react knowing I used the name for both a dog and a baby.

[name]Milo[/name]–Have never understood the attraction to this name. Reminds me of that movie [name]Milo[/name] & [name]Otis[/name]! Sorry.

[name]Rocco[/name]–Had another dog by this name! I love it though!

[name]Jax[/name]–[name]LOVE[/name]. My grandfather was [name]John[/name], my mother’s maiden name was [name]Black[/name]. I’ve thought of naming a boy [name]John[/name] [name]Black[/name] and calling him [name]Jax[/name]. I do have a cat named [name]Jack[/name] though, and wondered if that was too much.

[name]Xavier[/name]–[name]Haven[/name]'t really thought about [name]Xavier[/name]. But I did consider the Spanish version, [name]Javier[/name], and calling him [name]Javi[/name]. (Since [name]Cruz[/name] has a Latino name as well.)

[name]Dax[/name]–Another one I hadn’t thought about. Let me kick it around a little!

[name]Bennett[/name]–Prefer [name]Beckett[/name]. I’ve tried to stay away from B names though, since my last name starts with M.

Girls:

[name]Liza[/name]–As in Minelli? I don’t think so, sorry. Also, my youngest niece’s middle name is [name]Eliza[/name], seems a little repetitive.

[name]Violet[/name]–On my list as a middle name, hadn’t really thought about using it as a first name! Obviously I like it!

[name]Fiona[/name]–Shrek ruined it for me.

[name]Willow[/name]–[name]LOVE[/name]. But one of my best friend’s son’s name is [name]Will[/name]. I predict an issue with two [name]Wills[/name].

[name]Bea[/name]–I just don’t like it. I have thought about other short names like this though. [name]Rae[/name] or [name]Mae[/name] come to mind. [name]Rae[/name]/[name]Ray[/name] is actually a family name.

[name]Stella[/name]–Never liked this one. [name]Just[/name] can’t get past the Seinfeld episode with [name]Elaine[/name] drunkenly yelling “STELL-UUUUUUH”

[name]Wren[/name]–The name of my alma mater. I would never hear the end of it!

[name]Ivy[/name]–Not one I’ve considered but will also kick it around a little.

[name]Hazel[/name]–Like [name]Adele[/name], I don’t do well with such old-fashioned names, even if they’re getting a new surge of popularity.

[name]Dahlia[/name]. It’s what I wanted [name]Victoria[/name] and [name]David[/name] [name]Beckham[/name] to name their daughter. I love it with [name]Cruz[/name]! It’s still interesting, like [name]Cruz[/name], but emphasizes the feminine aspects of girl-hood. Dally, [name]Dolly[/name], Li, and [name]Lia[/name] are great nicknames, too. Also, I know they’re both a little Girl’s Gone Child at this point, but I love [name]Reverie[/name] and [name]Lux[/name] with [name]Cruz[/name].

LOL, [name]Lemon[/name]! My brother-in-law’s initials are BM, and I know a couple of others. I know it’s not a huge deal…in fact there are several names I have crossed off the list ONLY because they are B names, which I’ve kinda hated to do. Maybe I should reconsider?

I’m totally down with nature names AND word names. In fact, I would love to find another Spanish word name I like as much as I like [name]Cruz[/name].

Keep 'em coming! [name]Acacia[/name] and [name]Wolf[/name] are two I’ve considered before, at least as middle names. I wish the Spanish word for wolf was cooler sounding.

I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Reverie[/name]. I am seriously going to consider that one. Honestly I’m kind of meh about most of your other suggestions, but I do like your thought process.

Can’t use several of these because I already know someone by that name! Also, I had a cat named Scout LOL! I do LOVE the idea of using Jude for this baby whether it’s first or middle (and you’ll notice it was already on the list)–I have had some medical issues during this pregnancy that really could have done some damage to the baby, but he/she keeps going strong! So that name has a good history for this baby.

Ee-ness, like rhymes with penis? I actually know a guy named that! His last name is Snoddy, so people called him Snotty Penis growing up. Not a good connotation LOL! Ruby is one I’ve gone back and forth on. I already know a baby Ava, plus that name is so popular! We have a lot of similarities in these lists though!

Okay, fair enough! Hm. I think that [name]Arlo[/name] is totally cool with [name]Cruz[/name], and I think [name]Neva[/name] or [name]Baya[/name] would be nice for a girl. My favorites off your list for boys are Mateo, River, and Rio. I like the idea of using Mateo Jude for you - Cruz Roman and Mateo Jude feel very stylistically on par with one another. So I love that!

Off my idea list, I like Desi Wilder and Bayard Black. That just sounds cool to me, that last one. Don’t ask me why. Also, I have a Blackberry, so the idea of initials BBM really cracks me up! Blackberry Messenger - yea!

I would say Aria is my favorite girl name off your list. I like Lily, but I’d say use Lilia! Cruz and Lilia “Lily” are really cute together. Some of these feel really masculine or, quite frankly, past their prime - London (past her prime, the rest strike me as “manly”), River, Rio, Jett, Nico, Javan. Lilia Cate (Caroline and Kate?) would be so gorgeous for a girl.

Again, off my suggestions list, I’m rather taken with Neva Caroline, Lola Violet, Lola Scarlett, Rivera Cate, and Rosaline Violet.

@Bounce–You do know a girl named [name]Rio[/name]? That’s awesome! My only real fear is my friends’ kids will only think of that cartoon bird movie! I’m sure I’ll get a couple of references to the Duran Duran song from my older friends, but I don’t care much about that. Sky Madilyn is nice. (My mom is Marilyn, hence the spelling.) Don’t much care for Freya, Thea, etc. Quinn is on my list, but I’ve kind of lost my attraction to it. Quinn Caroline was one of my top picks a few months ago.

I started to like it less when I heard a very slovenly mother talking about her baby [name]London[/name] in one sentence and her stint in a halfway house in the next. Yikes. Most of the names are boyish because I’m boyish, LOL! I guess I have a difficult time picturing a girly girl daughter, so most of the girl names I like are manly. If that makes even a little bit of sense.

I like [name]Rain[/name]. I went to school with a boy named [name]Rayne[/name], and I always thought that was cool. [name]Harper[/name] is entirely too trendy for me, though I suppose some people might think the same of [name]Cruz[/name]! I know a woman named [name]Lucia[/name]–her sister’s name is [name]Stewart[/name]. Their parents were very interesting folks!
