Starting over! If you had a son named Cruz

[name]Morning[/name]! [name]Lemon[/name]'s suggested a ton of great stuff. [name]Rocco[/name] & [name]Cruz[/name] is just awesome. Ditto [name]Nico[/name] & [name]Cruz[/name].

About [name]Rain[/name] being overused, I see what [name]Lemon[/name] means… I really like suggestion of [name]Harbor[/name]!

Here are a few more suggestions, I’ll try not to give repeats…

[name]Amabel[/name], [name]Athena[/name], [name]Alice[/name]/[name]Alyss[/name], [name]Araminta[/name], [name]Arlo[/name], [name]Aria[/name], [name]Aviva[/name], [name]Briar[/name], [name]Bay[/name], [name]Calista[/name], [name]Calla[/name], [name]Cassia[/name], [name]Clio[/name], [name]Cora[/name], [name]Clover[/name], [name]Delia[/name], [name]Dove[/name], [name]Elodie[/name], [name]Elle[/name], [name]Ever[/name], [name]Flannery[/name], [name]Fable[/name], [name]Honor[/name], [name]Haven[/name], [name]Imogen[/name], [name]Linnea[/name], [name]Lorelei[/name], [name]Luna[/name], [name]Mercy[/name], [name]Romilly[/name], [name]Remi[/name], [name]Romy[/name], [name]Rosalie[/name], [name]Rowan[/name], [name]Saffron[/name], [name]Saskia[/name], [name]Soleil[/name], [name]Story[/name], [name]Thalia[/name], [name]Verity[/name].

[name]Amedeo[/name], [name]Ambrose[/name], [name]Archer[/name], [name]August[/name], [name]Declan[/name], [name]Everett[/name], [name]Gideon[/name], [name]Grant[/name], [name]Gray[/name], [name]Griffin[/name], [name]Hudson[/name], [name]Huxley[/name], [name]Jago[/name], [name]Levi[/name], [name]Malachi[/name], [name]Matthias[/name], [name]Orion[/name], [name]Remy[/name], [name]Rory[/name], [name]Roscoe[/name], [name]Rowan[/name], [name]Santiago[/name], [name]Silas[/name], [name]Sinclair[/name], [name]Stellan[/name], [name]Sterling[/name], [name]Sullivan[/name], [name]Zane[/name].

Bounce

[name]Hi[/name] - Sorry for any repeats:

Girls:
[name]Bay[/name]
[name]Freya[/name]
[name]Vera[/name]
[name]Valentina[/name]

Boys:
[name]Leo[/name]
[name]Nico[/name]
[name]Ronan[/name]

[name]Lemon[/name] and Bounce, you two are awesome! Instead of replying to each of you, I’m going to go through some of the names you listed. I’ll leave out the ones that I just don’t care for, am meh abou, or don’t like the way they sound/look with my last name.

[name]Jacoby[/name] Wilde is pretty awesome. I would want to call him [name]Jac[/name]. But I have a cat named [name]Jack[/name]. But [name]Jack[/name] the cat is 10 years old already, and usually stays outside two out of three days. So that might not be an issue.

[name]Rocco[/name]–Bounce first suggested this on page 1! I really love it, and I owned a dog I called [name]Rocco[/name]. I discounted it at first, but…I only had that dog for a few months before finding another home for him. And it was about 8-9 years ago. I do love the name, and it goes well with [name]Cruz[/name]. I would likely not give him [name]Rocco[/name] as a given name though. My grandfather was [name]Robert[/name], maybe I could make a play on that and just call him [name]Rocco[/name].

[name]Orion[/name]–Always liked it, except it’s similarity to [name]Ryan[/name] in pronunciation. I HATE [name]Ryan[/name]. Too common, too blah. Probably the only reason I’ve held off on having it on the list. Very usable as a middle name though.

[name]Tristan[/name], [name]Story[/name], and Aven–All used to be on the lists, not sure why I had crossed them off…I’ll put 'em back.

[name]Peyton[/name]–[name]LOVE[/name]. When I was a teenager, this was to be my daughter’s name. Since then it has become WAAAAY too popular, especially around here.

[name]Maren[/name], [name]Seren[/name], and [name]Piper[/name]–[name]Love[/name] these, especially [name]Piper[/name]. I wish I could use them, but I already know babies/little girls with these names.

[name]Soleil[/name]–Used to be on the list, and I crossed it off because I was afraid of some wise**s telling my daughter to So-lay him.

[name]Dove[/name]–Also was on the list–a favorite, in fact. I made the mistake of telling a few people though, and got some pretty harsh reviews. I took it off the list, but I may reconsider if I find out for sure I’m having a girl. (Ultrasound this Friday, I hope the tech can tell one way or the other!)

[name]Juno[/name]–[name]LOVE[/name]. [name]Love[/name] the movie, love the character, love the name. Have gone round and round with it in my head, but never officially put it on the list. I just don’t know if I’m brave enough! I feel much the same way about [name]Luna[/name] and [name]Junia[/name].

[name]Declan[/name], [name]Silas[/name], [name]Zane[/name]–Are either on the list, or were crossed off for one reason or another. [name]Declan[/name] is my favorite of these. I like all of them though. I might put [name]Silas[/name] back on the list…

[name]Rory[/name]–To me, it’s a girl’s name. I grew up fascinated with the Kennedys and RFK’s youngest daughter is [name]Rory[/name]. It would be on the list if if weren’t so difficult for so many people to pronounce. But I could just tell those people they can call her Roo or something…hm…yep, on the list!

[name]Everett[/name]–A family name for me, I’ve thought about shocking my entire family and using it, but I’m not sure I like it well enough…

[name]Mercy[/name] and [name]Saskia[/name]–Have considered them briefly but never put them on the list. I met a [name]Saskia[/name] when I was a kid–beautiful girl, but very dark haired and olive skinned, so I have difficulty picturing my likely blond child with the name. Adding [name]Mercy[/name] to the list, but will hold off on [name]Saskia[/name] for now.

[name]Jago[/name]–Never heard of it. Looked up the pronunciation–[name]LOVE[/name] IT. I could call him Jag! Much more interesting than [name]Jagger[/name], which is a guilty pleasure of mine.

There are a few others I added to the list in the middle of the night–I was up from 4-7 before going back to bed!–but I was too tired and didn’t take note of where I got them, but I think they came one or both of you.

So here’s the list now:

BOYS

[name]Tristan[/name]
Dashiell “Dash”
[name]Cassius[/name] “Cash”
[name]Canyon[/name]
[name]Texas[/name] “Tex”
[name]Mateo[/name]
[name]Jude[/name]
[name]Rocco[/name] ([name]Robert[/name]?)
[name]Jago[/name] “Jag”
[name]Davin[/name]
[name]Silas[/name]
[name]Jacoby[/name] “Jac”
Chet

GIRLS

[name]Finley[/name]
[name]Rumer[/name]
[name]Aria[/name] “Ari”
[name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Zaila[/name]
[name]Lola[/name]
[name]Zara[/name]
Aven
Luca
[name]Ever[/name]
[name]Story[/name]
[name]Rory[/name]
[name]Dove[/name]
[name]Juno[/name]
[name]Mercy[/name]

I think I might be tempted to print out this whole conversation! Awesome suggestions so far!

Edited to add: I took Harbor off my list despite the fact that you both like it. Why? My friend C said yesterday “All I can think of is boats pulling in…there’s a dirty joke in there somewhere.” Sigh.

L,

I think [name]Jac[/name] for [name]Jacoby[/name] is so cute! You could also go with [name]Coby[/name] if you wanted, but [name]Jac[/name]? Super spiffy. I also must say I thought [name]Jago[/name] was pronounced like, uh, [name]Iago[/name]. Wow, I’m a fool. So, Jag would actually be pronounced Jag! I like that (and I like [name]Jagger[/name] with [name]Cruz[/name], too). I think you could get away with [name]Rocco[/name] as a full name, but [name]Robert[/name] “[name]Rocco[/name]” is really cute, too! I like a good jazzy nickname. If you had a C middle name, it would be perfect, but that’s not necessary - [name]Robert[/name] [name]Cole[/name], [name]Robert[/name] [name]Canton[/name], etc.

Eh, what a shame about the potential teasing with [name]Harbor[/name]! I feel like some scum bag later on might say that, but (hopefully) no child would think of it - it’s pretty advanced. Ha. I guess [name]Dove[/name] could get teased about chocolate or soap, but those are pretty mild. I really love Aven and [name]Zara[/name]! Also, did anybody suggest [name]Fable[/name]? Or maybe you just didn’t care for it.

[name]Lemon[/name]

I’m way, way too tired and massively pregnant to make a big long list, but the absolute first name that came to my mind when I read the thread title was [name]Jacinta[/name]. [name]Cruz[/name] and his little sister [name]Jacinta[/name]/[name]Jacinda[/name]. Be still my heart!

[name]Lemon[/name],

I thought close to the same thing about [name]Jago[/name]–I assumed (wrongly) it was Yah-go, but decided to look it up. [name]Imagine[/name] my surprise when I found it is pronounced [name]Jay[/name]-go or Jag-oh.

I’ve always loved the name [name]Jack[/name] (or [name]Jac[/name]–I saw a little boy on one of those nanny shows with it spelled this way) and my other grandfather’s name was [name]John[/name], so it would be a great way to honor him without using [name]John[/name], which is super common.

As for [name]Rocco[/name]/[name]Robert[/name] with a C middle, my dad’s name was [name]Charles[/name]. [name]Robert[/name] [name]Charles[/name] “[name]Rocco[/name]”? I was supposed to be [name]Charles[/name] [name]Robert[/name] if I’d been a boy!

Someone did suggest [name]Fable[/name]…but my last name also ends in an L, so I have to REALLY love a name to go for the L ending on a first name. [name]Dashiell[/name] is the only one I’ve found that I like well enough to consider! Or [name]Gabriel[/name], if I didn’t already have a nephew with that name.

Another -ash name (just to confuse you more) that I like is [name]Nash[/name]. I know a young man with this name, and think it’s super-cool and modern.

My favorites from your list are:
Boys:
[name]Rex[/name]
[name]Mateo[/name]
[name]Nico[/name]
[name]River[/name] ([name]Rio[/name]): actually I like [name]Rio[/name] on it’s own, not just as a nn! [name]Cruz[/name] and [name]Rio[/name]? Pretty cool. (Although it does remind me of Top [name]Gun[/name]).

Girls:
[name]Harbor[/name]: maybe a little nautical with [name]Cruz[/name], which is a homonym for cruise
[name]Aria[/name]
[name]Lillie[/name]/[name]Lily[/name]

From your lists my favorites are:
[name]Rocco[/name] - I think I like it more as a given name than as a nn for [name]Robert[/name]. [name]Robert[/name]/[name]Robert[/name] [name]Charles[/name] sounds very conservative after [name]Cruz[/name] [name]Roman[/name].
[name]Dashiell[/name]
[name]Jacoby[/name]

[name]Ever[/name]
[name]Rory[/name]
[name]Juno[/name]

I love [name]Luna[/name] for you, just love it. [name]Cruz[/name] and [name]Luna[/name] would be awesome. Also suggesting (forgive repeats):

[name]Amedeo[/name], [name]Dario[/name], [name]Deacon[/name], [name]Frost[/name], [name]Inigo[/name], [name]Joachin[/name], [name]Sayer[/name], [name]Trace[/name], [name]Magnus[/name], [name]Donovan[/name], [name]Sullivan[/name]

[name]Aspen[/name], [name]Abra[/name], [name]Marina[/name] (latinate, similar to [name]Harbor[/name], but maybe less reminiscent of the fleet being in?), [name]Calista[/name]/[name]Calixta[/name], [name]Clio[/name], [name]Honor[/name], [name]Lark[/name], [name]Micah[/name], [name]Socorro[/name], [name]Skye[/name], [name]Pilar[/name], [name]Paz[/name], [name]Ione[/name], [name]India[/name], [name]Indigo[/name], [name]Emery[/name], [name]Vega[/name], [name]Zora[/name]

L,

Yes, that’s exactly what I thought about [name]Jago[/name]! [name]Do[/name] you think it’s that confusing for everyone? I’m not so good with J’s sometimes - I always think they’re supposed to be I’s or H’s or something else, especially when the name ends in an -o.

It would be so cool to use your almost-name in reverse for a son! [name]Robert[/name] [name]Charles[/name] is much more classic than [name]Cruz[/name] [name]Roman[/name] - and they have reverse initials - but I like it! [name]Robert[/name] [name]Charles[/name] “[name]Rocco[/name].” You could also use a variant on [name]Robert[/name]. For some reason, [name]Robinson[/name] sounds best with [name]Cruz[/name] to me. I don’t even know! [name]Charles[/name] has many variants, too - [name]Carl[/name], [name]Carroll[/name], [name]Cary[/name], [name]Chad[/name], [name]Charlton[/name], [name]Chaz[/name], [name]Chip[/name], [name]Carlo[/name], [name]Carlos[/name], etc. [name]Robinson[/name] [name]Carlo[/name] is pretty cool, I think. Actually, I’m pretty obsessed with [name]Carlo[/name] right now!

Alright, sounds like [name]Fable[/name] is out. You have better options, I think, that will blend better with your last name. Limiting the list is always good, too!

[name]Lemon[/name]

PS [name]Chet[/name] sticks out to me as a name with a similar feel to [name]Cruz[/name]. It’s technically a nickname for [name]Chester[/name], but I think it’s great all on its own.

[name]Lemon[/name], maybe you’re thinking of [name]Robinson[/name] Crusoe?

My niece (yes another one) is Chazlyn called [name]Chaz[/name]/Chazzy, so I can’t use that, but I’ve always liked it. [name]Chad[/name] too, but my old high school crush, who is on my Facebook, is named [name]Chad[/name]. No way, no how do I want him to think I’m naming a child after him!! [name]Charleston[/name] crossed my mind, but it seems like a little much.

LOL at [name]Chester[/name], that’s my friend’s dog’s name! I do like [name]Chet[/name] though. Well enough to even add it to the list, maybe.

Speaking of which, in thinking of [name]Rory[/name] and liking the nickname Roo/Ru/[name]Rue[/name] so much, I think I may add [name]Rumer[/name] to the list for girls.

I am a little afraid that everyone would mispronounce [name]Jago[/name]–once I decide on a name, I really don’t want to tell any RL people until I’m in the hospital and the baby has been born. I picture their faces when I say or write [name]Jago[/name]…I think they will think I’m making it up! Doesn’t make me like it any less though!

That’s a good attitude to have, though! If you love a name that much - and it is a nice name, [name]Jago[/name] - then that’s definitely a positive.

I might be thinking of [name]Robinson[/name] Crusoe, in which case having a [name]Cruz[/name] and a [name]Robinson[/name] is totally strange - don’t do it! [name]Cruz[/name] and [name]Chet[/name], though? Fun. Later, they could have a sister named [name]Ciel[/name]. Or [name]Clio[/name]. Or [name]Cady[/name].

Ru and [name]Rue[/name] (my favorite spelling - it looks sophisticated) - or even [name]Lil[/name]’ Roo - are great nicknames! They clearly work for [name]Ruby[/name] (or [name]Rory[/name]) and [name]Rumer[/name]. Or Rumor. Would you want to spell it like the word, or is that odd? I think [name]Rune[/name], [name]Rudy[/name], and Russo (so cool!) are nice for a boy [name]Rue[/name] (Roo). Actually, I guess [name]Rune[/name] could be a girl, too…

[name]Lemon[/name]

Duh.

[name]Ruby[/name]. It’s on the list, and I didn’t even think of it to get to Roo/[name]Rue[/name]. Boy, that was dumb of me! I like it better than [name]Rumer[/name], I think. I don’t know that I’d have a preference on spelling if I did use that name–I just always think of [name]Rumer[/name] [name]Willis[/name], who spells it with an E.

I just remember knowing a little girl many years ago named [name]Riley[/name]. I called her [name]Riley[/name] Roo, then found out her mother also called her Roo. It just fit her so much, she was a little blond tomboy cutie…which is pretty much how I picture my daughter being! So when Roo came up, I kind of latched on. Russo is also way cool, but I’m afraid of people pronouncing it [name]Russ[/name]-oh instead of Roo-so. (I don’t have a lot of faith in my fellow South Carolinians when it comes to pronouncing unusual names…these are the people who try to call me [name]Lorraine[/name] or LaurAnn because my name is spelled [name]Lauran[/name] instead of [name]Lauren[/name].)

And as for the third child–no way, not gonna happen, uh uh. Two is my limit!

I actually thought of [name]Cady[/name], then realized stupidly my nephew is [name]Caide[/name] ([name]Cade[/name]). Can’t use it but I wish I could.

(Between all the nieces and nephews, and pets–I really got screwed out of a lot of names!)

[name]Hi[/name]! I’ve missed a bit but I’m back

I love [name]Jago[/name], and if you’re in the US/CAN I think the pr. is pretty straight forward (though it may sometimes be pr. Ya-go). But [name]Cruz[/name] & [name]Jago[/name] is just awesome. [name]Jago[/name] [name]Robert[/name] is really great.

Personally, I wouldn’t choose [name]Rumer[/name]; I just don’t like the idea of a rumor being passed around. But what about [name]Ruby[/name] to get nn [name]Rue[/name]? But also, [name]Rue[/name] & [name]Cruz[/name] are really similar sounding.

[name]Jacoby[/name] nn [name]Jac[/name] & [name]Cruz[/name] is really cool too! [name]Jacoby[/name] [name]Rocco[/name]? [name]Juno[/name], [name]Dove[/name], and [name]Mercy[/name] also really stand out to me from your list, especially with [name]Cruz[/name]! I recently heard of a baby called [name]Nona[/name] [name]Plum[/name], and I think [name]Nona[/name] could work for you. Sorry I think I might have suggested it before

Bounce

Woops! You guys just posted while I was writing - sorry if my post is repetitive!

[name]Lauran[/name],

I like [name]Ruby[/name] better than [name]Rumer[/name], too. Or Rumor - rumors aren’t even good things, usually. My great-grandmother was [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Jane[/name], so the name feels friendly and sweet to me, just a little rusty but in a good way. The only thing I’m hesitant about with [name]Ruby[/name] or any [name]Rue[/name] names is the similarity with [name]Cruz[/name]. [name]Cruz[/name] and [name]Ruby[/name]. Lots of “ooh.” But, that’s what it is, right?

That’s hilarious about your name! My name is [name]Lauren[/name] and people pronounce it different ways, but never [name]Lorraine[/name]. I’m rarely even called [name]Lauren[/name] anymore, though. But, Russo is so way cool that I think you should test it out. I want to see how people pronounce it! Russo pronounced correctly is obviously better than [[name]RUSS[/name]-oh], but I think [name]Russ[/name] and [name]Rusty[/name] are adorable nicknames, too, so…

Okay, [name]Cady[/name] is too close to [name]Caide[/name] ([name]Cade[/name]). But I still think [name]Ciel[/name] is really lovely with [name]Cruz[/name]. It’s so pretty!

[name]Lemon[/name]

Bounce, I forgot where you live! Anyway, I’m not sure the [name]Jago[/name] pronunciation is intuitive in the US because both [name]Lauran[/name] and I are from the US and didn’t get it at first, so… :-/

([name]Jacoby[/name] is probably my favorite, too. If Russo doesn’t work out. Or [name]Rocco[/name]. Speaking of, doesn’t [name]Madonna[/name] have a son named [name]Rocco[/name]? Maybe [name]Lourdes[/name] should be on your list. Since [name]Madonna[/name] has one of those, too, called [name]Lola[/name]…)

[name]Lemon[/name]

I adore [name]Cruz[/name] & [name]Javier[/name] nn [name]Javi[/name]! That is a great sibset! So is [name]Cruz[/name] & [name]Luna[/name]!

[name]Lemon[/name],

I guess you’re right about [name]Jago[/name]. But I still think it’s awesome! Oh, I’m in [name]Canada[/name]. And I seem to be an hour ahead of Nameberry time…

[name]Jacoby[/name], Russo & [name]Rocco[/name] are my next top choices! What about [name]Wren[/name]?

Bounce

Oh, right. Yea, I think NB time is Eastern US. So, I’m an hour behind, because I’m on Central US. We share the same top choices for boys! Yay us. I really don’t know what to say as far as girl names go for [name]Lauran[/name]. I just don’t know! And, Bounce, you know I’m always pro-[name]Wren[/name], but I think [name]Lauran[/name] mentioned something about that being the name of her alma mater? Maybe she could use [name]Ren[/name]! [name]Cruz[/name] and [name]Ren[/name] are sure nice together.

[name]Lemon[/name]

Oh whoops, forgot about [name]Wren[/name].

[name]Scout[/name], [name]Jem[/name], or… Okay, I had another one. Lol, maybe it’ll come to me.

Bounce
