I’m due with a girl in [name_f]April[/name_f] and right now our front runner is [name_f]Susannah[/name_f]. I’ve always thought this spelling of the name was the more popular/traditional, but after looking into it it seems [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] was the more popular spelling when both were ranked in the top 100. I’ve also asked a couple of people how they would spell it, and both said [name_f]Susanna[/name_f].
I’m starting to panic a bit, because I want an easy spelling for the first name since our last name is always misspelled. I much prefer the [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] spelling (as does my husband) and always compared it to Sarah/Sara or Hannah/Hanna. To me, [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] feels more complete but I don’t want her to be burdened with constantly correcting people how to spell her name.
So do you prefer [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] or [name_f]Susanna[/name_f]? Thank you!
I much prefer (and also would initially assume correct) the [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] spelling! I totally agree that it feels more complete. What a sweet name!
I too much prefer [name_f]Susannah[/name_f]. Neither is popular and your preferred spelling is very well known, so go with what you love best! This is a name (like Katherine/Cathryn etc.) that you will have to spell but it’s not too arduous to say “with an h”.
I prefer the [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] spelling! I think both are very intuitive, and whichever you go with someone here or there might get it wrong, similar to Sophia/Sofia or Katherine/Catherine or other names with two “correct” spellings with equal history. But I have never heard of a [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] or [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] complaining that an occasional wrong guess was any sort of burden on their life.
I say absolutely go with the spelling that YOU like best, which is [name_f]Susannah[/name_f]!
To me the only difference is that [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] feels more biblical. If I had to choose, I like the simplicity of [name_f]Susanna[/name_f], but you should definitely use the spelling you love. They’re both established spellings, like [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] or [name_f]Katherine[/name_f].
I personally prefer [name_f]Susanna[/name_f], but I think you should go with your gut!! Saying “Susannah with an H” is very different than saying “Emily with two M’s and an ie”, and even that one is doable! I do agree that it’s like [name_f]Hanna[/name_f] vs. [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], and [name_f]Sara[/name_f] vs. [name_f]Sarah[/name_f], in which the H is my favorite spelling. They are both established spellings, and I think [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] is the right fit for you
Secondly my favourite is definitely [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] I feel this spelling is more complete, visually pleasing and how I would intuitively spell the name. Ultimately this will not be a major hassle for her saying with a h will take five seconds and won’t cause stress for her it’s like saying [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] with a C for example. I think [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] is perfect for you guys so go with your preferred spelling.
Congratulations!
I love the name choice. It seems familiar yet fresh (I don’t think I have met anyone with the name personally). I prefer [name_f]Susannah[/name_f], myself - it just looks “better” to me, for a reason I can’t explain.
I prefer [name_f]Susanna[/name_f], but I will say the one I know (spelled without the h) always gets her name misspelled, so if you’re looking for the more default spelling I would think that would be [name_f]Susannah[/name_f]! Both versions are beautiful and sunshiney and warm and distinctive choices!
I like both of those, but my favourite spelling for Susanna(h) is [name_f]Suzanna[/name_f] . I think either spelling is intuitive to be honest, and the one [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] I know doesn’t usually have to spell out her name
I strongly prefer [name_f]Susannah[/name_f], and it’s the only way I’ve ever seen it spelled “in the wild,” so to speak. To me, [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] looks like a completely different name!
I prefer [name_f]Susannah[/name_f], which is how I’d intuitively spell it as well! Interesting to see the different preferences and associations here…Susannah is elegant and classic, a beautiful name
