[name_u]New[/name_u] Word: [name_u]Forest[/name_u]

@GeographyDragon it’s alright!!

the girl glanced at me warily, tears still glistening in her amber eyes. “i can’t go in there!” she whimpered. i shrugged, indifferent, but i turned back and said, more softly, “look. you have to.” then i turned back around and started to go down the path and into the forest.

from a story i wrote a long time ago that doesn’t have a name lol
He smirks, then he steps to the side of the path and disappears into the [name_u]Forest[/name_u]. I pick up my pace and break into a jog as I continue down the twisting dirt path. It’s drizzling a bit, just misting, really, and the ground is damp, slowly turning into mud. [name_f]My[/name_f] boots are already filthy from five years of heavy work and running through the woods, so I don’t mind too much. And after all my training, the sodden dirt underfoot doesn’t affect my speed either.

“See, right where she’s supposed to be.”
“Ruby! I’ve missed you, my lovely! Two long years, but I’m back! Finally— Butch!”
“What?! What’d I—”
“What is that on my baby’s dashboard!”
“Oh… um—”
“It better not be what I think it is, Butch!”
“Jeez, chill Spike!”
“If that’s a moldy orange, you’d better run for your life!”
“Um… it might be.”
“What have I said about leaving food in my car!”
“I didn’t know we weren’t comin’ back!”

“Aren’t you nocturnal? Awake mainly at night?”
“Not here in Phibia, anyway. I can see in the dark, though. Which is awesome!”

[name_f]Esperance[/name_f] flew through the palace as quickly as she dared without flapping her wings too loudly. [name_f]Chrysalis[/name_f] was fast, and if they noticed her, then the whole plan was ruined.

“Of course! [name_f]My[/name_f] liege. Any… battle! Any war, you can… trust! That I’ll be fighting on… your! Side.”
“I get the feeling you can’t read very well.”
“What makes you think that? I can read fine!”
“You’re very hesitant and you don’t sound certain.”
“So what? I mean, can’t you just tell me the lines?”
“I could. But, in the long run, that won’t help anything.”
“Yeah it will.”
“I’m not always going to be around.”
“Then somebody else can tell me.”
“Ciro, I don’t mean to sound nasty when I ask this, but how did you even graduate school?”
“School? Oh, yeah… I didn’t. Dropped out at twelve and never looked back.”
“How did you do that? The dropout age is sixteen.”
“Well, not everybody plays by the rules.”

“You’re ruined?! What about me?!” [name_f]Antigone[/name_f], still in wingless dragon form, shrieked. “No fire! No powers! And, thanks to you, I’m stuck like THIS! A big clumsy lizard! Forever!”

“What’s wrong with your teeth?” [name_m]Jarred[/name_m] asked.
“This!” [name_m]Elam[/name_m] showed them all his teeth. His normal non-pointed teeth. “My fangs are gone! Which must mean…” he closed his eyes. “I’m not a Werewolf! I’m not a Dragonshifter! I’m just a plain old human!”

“No, you’re wrong,” said [name_u]Ash[/name_u], pretty much from muscle memory. Then he blinked. “Wait, what just happened?”

“Quiet, puny humans!” [name_f]Celestial[/name_f] roared. They were enjoying themself tremendously. Maybe a little too much.

I am flooded with guilt, and if it weren’t forbidden, I would be sobbing right now. Okay, it wasn’t the last day she was alive, but it was the last day she was really there. Our parents’ deaths changed her in a way that I never thought anything could change my bubbly, vivacious older sister.

I attempt to push that thought out of my mind, but a terrible one takes its place. I can’t remember my sister’s name.
It’s been five years, five long, silent years. Not long enough. Not long enough to forget something like that.

“Please! [name_f]My[/name_f] aunt can’t take much more of the haunting! You’re giving her migraines!”
“Haunting?”
“The walls shaking, things falling off of shelves, the lights flickering, the piano music, the unexplained footsteps in the middle of the night!”

“And you always get a banana muffin?”
“Yep. Gotta have some sort of routine, you know. Although, come to think of it, I’ll get two today. And everyday for the next three years.”
“Why?”
“Two reasons. One, they’re delicious. And two, I have to make up for the three years that I couldn’t eat them.”
“Three years? That’s the sentence you got for stealing a car?!”
“And crashing it. Let’s not forget that.”
“Seriously?! You’re a lucky Dog, to have gotten such a light punishment!”
“And I could have gotten longer, and I’m very lucky the car wasn’t totaled, etcetera, etcetera. Anything you’re gonna say, I’ve probably heard it already.”

And, let’s be quite honest, I didn’t either. “Boundaries!” I snapped and tried to pull my hand away. However, the stranger’s grip was strong and I was unable to.
“Must be worth a fortune.” [name_m]Just[/name_m] as I realized what he was planning to do, he grabbed [name_u]Ozzy[/name_u]. But, that turned out to be a mistake. Then. Behind her. Quick as a flash, a figure appears from out of the trees. I fight to hide my grin from [name_f]Celestia[/name_f], as I recognise the person behind her. Short-cropped blonde hair, perfectly framing her face. Intense blue eyes. [name_m]Sharp[/name_m] cheekbones. A fierce, determined smile. I would know that face anywhere. I notice [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], lying unconscious behind [name_f]Celestia[/name_f], and suddenly I know what to do.

Two women are riding the horse bare-back. I recognise them both, and I’m not happy to see either of them.

Swiftnose was relieved that he, Keensight, and Bonechewer were all okay. Leopards were fierce, terrifying creatures. They could move very quickly, not to mention quietly. They were strong, powerful, and deadly. It was unlikely that three Hyenas would all be uninjured after a fight with one. Luckily, the fight had been avoided.
Keensight limped in front of her group. Swiftnose sniffed the air, nervously. His [name_u]Alpha[/name_u] always limped a bit, favoring her front left paw. It had been broken during a fight with a Rhinoceros many years before Swiftnose was born. Thankfully, it had healed well enough for her to walk on it. But, it still bothered her sometimes. Lately, more often than not. The Pack was worried about her. Cloudspot, her [name_m]Chief[/name_m] Advisor, tried to insist that she give up going out scavenging. That she let other Pack members bring her food. Because, if she had to run, it was unlikely that she’d be fast enough.
Keensight insisted that she was fine. She wouldn’t just lie around all day. The boredom would make her extra irritable, which even she knew wasn’t good for the Pack. Besides, she was an expert Scavenger, able to spot signs of prey from miles away. And the Pack needed their best Scavengers out scavenging right now. They hadn’t eaten more than a few small lizards in days.
