[name_m]Just[/name_m] wondering - does anyone else treat usernames like combos, or even an opportunity to create another persona (I don’t mean spamming or trolling at all - just on some sites I might be @dalriada rather than [name_f]Beth[/name_f], even though I’m still [name_f]Beth[/name_f] and don’t act any differently).
Personally, I always have to find the ‘right’ user-name for every site - something like orchid_forest, which to me conveys some gorgeous imagery and a slightly mystical ‘feel’, or tir_na_nog after the land of youth of beauty in Irish mythology. Alternatively, I might choose something personal and quirky, like lemoncurd, or a literary reference, or a single name that gives me an image to live up to - like thehappyprincess and maud.
I’ve noticed some really fun, lovely, inventive, and unique usernames on here, which suggests that there’s a few other people who do this, and then other usernames that sound like some users don’t see it as the same sort of opportunity as I do (or at least didn’t when they joined). So - what’s your perspective? Maybe you don’t get this at all. Or maybe you’re one of the people who rejoin solely for the purpose of choosing a different user-name . . . in which case, high-five!
I honestly use some version of this username on most sites I visit. The only other one I could be is princess_aerial, but I think I only used that for an app. It’s just easier for me to remember, that way I don’t have to go through all my usernames when I want to login somewhere.
To be fair, I recognize that sparkleninja18 is very ridiculous, and in my defense, I joined this site when I was 14. I don’t think I’d change my username now though. Sparkle ninja was my joke name in a game I played with my dance friend in middle school. We had a poke war, and came up with ninja names based on the shirts we were wearing. Mine had a lot of sequins so I was sparkle ninja.
Also, as ridiculous as the name is, I think it fits my personality. It may sound childish and immature, but then again, I occasionally am too. Sparkle ninja gives off an image that suits me.
Thanks for mentioning my username @sparkleninja! I always thought yours was very spunky and cute.
[name_f]Thomasina[/name_f] is a family name for us and in terms of name usage is pretty rare as well. Although I love [name_f]Thomasina[/name_f] and even briefly considered naming [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] this, it just didn’t feel like my child’s name although I love going by it online since it’s polar opposite from my short name [name_u]Caro[/name_u].
I like these because they give you a tiny glimpse of the person that bears them. I would assume that [name_f]Katinka[/name_f] likes up-beat names due to the sound is interested in Russian or Eastern European languages. Targaryen has got to be a fan of Game of Thrones and so on. Ashthedreamer is perfect because when you read almost everything [name_u]Ash[/name_u] writes and says on here you can tell that there is no other word to describe her but a dreamer, in the utmost positive and wonderful sense. She’s very idealistic (and I hope she reads this!).
@morning_glory thank you for liking my name. I don’t have an individual name [name_u]Elif[/name_u] [name_f]Su[/name_f] is my real name lol. But I like your user name among others like
Awwh, thanks guys! I didn’t put that much thought into it, but more than before when I usually plumped for ‘ultimate (insert fandom) fangirl’ haha.
I was like favourite flower, and thought using the Latin name might be a bit more adultish, and a little less twee and more me than just forget-me-not. I still really love it, so I haven’t felt inclined to change. But more recently I did find myself loving the sound of steampunk_kitty, so I’ve used that a few times elsewhere.
I do really love the sound of some more quirky, whimiscal sounding usernames (but they wouldn’t feel very me) and I really love names related to things I’m interested in (@felicitysmoak is one that comes to mind). 221 or 221B is always what I use if I need to include a number.
I think after a while, I just get so used to usernames being connected to certain people, so I like most of them haha. Some I like that come to mind:
@thomasina: A recent addition to my name list, and I think your style of names and your children’s wonderful names gave it some of the imagery that persuaded me into adding it. Part of my combo’s [name_f]Thomasina[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] haha. @katoolah @lexiem @eoxima: In my head I always ‘say’ ee-oh-zee-muh, which just makes me happy haha. @bellerose: I have various forms of [name_f]Bellerose[/name_f] on my maybe list now. It’s such a wonderfully whimsical, fairytale like name. @emsky @indilee @elifsu @katinka @luneth: Pretty much two of my favourite name elements combined! @morganalefaye @ophelia_flora @desdemona @renrose @mairead
There are probably many more I haven’t mentioned! Very glad I note down the users and names I’ve mentioned in the ‘Names that make you go Wow’ thread, made this a lot easier haha.
Not really. I’ve never really thought that much into usernames on here (in terms of its bearer), or on anywhere else. While I may come across one and think it is neat, that’s about it…I’m much more interested in the person’s liked names, thoughts on naming trends, and so on. The usernames are just blank canvases. They might as well be [name_f]Jane[/name_f] or [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_f]Doe[/name_f], to me. I can honestly say that I’ve never come across a “creative” username and thought any higher of that person than I do of someone who has a more “generic” username, such as myself.
With my own username, I honestly did put thought into it. I tried to use a version of my first name, but what I could think of was already taken. I didn’t want to choose something literary or heavy on imagery, because I personally view that as a wee bit pretentious. Like, I would personally feel like a huge fake and fool if my username was a spin on my favorite author or some if I had used a quote…regardless of how much the topic meant to me. Have I thought about rejoining under a different name? Once. Then I realized that it wouldn’t change a thing. I’d still be the same person, both on here and in real life. My viewpoints would be the same. I’d still like the same names (would my tastes really be all that different if my username were @arosebyanyothername or @breaktakingdawn?)
Thank you @adelina_sophia and @myosotis for mentioning my username! I’ve always really enjoyed your user-names also.
I do notice usernames but forgive me if I forget some here! I’ve never gone through and wrote them down or anything! I tend like usernames that are magical or whimsical is some way. I also like usernames with names that I really adore in them. Some ones that have really stood out to me (besides the ones I mentioned already!) …
I’m sure there are many others and there are a lot that were already mentioned here that I enjoy also.
My username was well thought out but I didn’t really want a new username at that time. I believe the site was experiencing some issues then and I couldn’t retrieve my old password after taking break from names & this site for about a year. My current username is the meaning of what was my favorite girl combo, [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] [name_f]Fay[/name_f]. I’m really into the meanings of names and adored the meaning of those two together.
My old username wasn’t as cute! It was agxobsessed which is the first & last initial of my name and obsessed because, well, I’m obsessed with names! I pretty much had to start all over again which I didn’t enjoy! However, I like my username now and I think it fits me and my naming style very well. Besides agxobsessed, I’ve used seraphinairis before on other sites because those were my two favorite names for a very long time.
I don’t really treat usernames as a opportunity to create another persona and I don’t like creating different usernames for different sites. I’d actually prefer to use the same one across the board so people can recognize me on other naming forums!
My username on here I think was one of the first I ever made, it’s the name of a character in a book series I love. In the book it’s pronounced My-rad not [name_f]May[/name_f]-rad, but I suspect most people read [name_f]May[/name_f]-rad (which is fine with me).
My username in lots of other places is Inareskai (Inn-ah-ress-kai) which is from the same book, in the book language it means ‘storm cloud’. I just really love this book! I’ve also used the names Hekibel and Irc, from the same series, for different sites.
On a different name site I go by [name_f]Carly[/name_f] because it’s sort of my name but also never ever a name I have gone by.
I’ve never been sure how to say eoxima, though I love how it looks. There are loads of usernames I see on here and think are great!
@luneth is my second account. My first was locked up due to some technical error and I took it as an opportunity to pick new username (and later I’m glad there was an error because I like luneth much better than my previous username). It’s a play on the name [name_f]Luna[/name_f], which, while technically not my birth name, is a name I automatically answer to. [name_f]Luna[/name_f]/[name_f]Luneth[/name_f] just feel like a pseudo now, but personality wise I’m exactly the same.
Yours is lovely too and this comes from me who is not a morning person, lol. I always imagine sunrise, the warmth and the last drops of dew on the leaves.
There are many that I like, but some that come into my mind now: @maerad @katinka @thomasina @myosotis I love forget-me-not and your username is just genius. @truenature especially cute that there’s always nature touch in her kids’ names. @redrobin @dantea although she’s never here anymore. @ashthedreamer I agree that it suits her to bits. @emiliana @eoxima @gildedfairyx this just brings the loveliest, mystical imagery. Oh, and I notice your join date is Nov 2015. Seems like we dealt with the same problem back then. @redwoodfey another that haven’t been around for a while. @dearest I agree that it sounds the sweetest! @dream.create @silverrose
@ivo, @[name_u]Jem[/name_u], @[name_f]Adelina[/name_f] and @[name_f]Luna[/name_f], thank you! I spent a good 20 minutes deciding on this name and I’ve never really felt an urge to change it (and I am really indecisive) so I’m glad ya like it.
@maerad, I’m not 100% sure myself lol. I kept putting random sounds together and loved how eoxima looks. I say it as ee-ox-ee-ma/ee-oh-zee-ma in my head.
I’ve never paid much attention to usernames. I put next to no thought into mine. (I wanted a tree name, and maple was already taken.) I guess I just assume that most users were the same way.
About your original question, I use the same username everywhere I sign up, and include the same snail shell on my avatars. It is an alter-ego of sorts and it is still very much me in terms of personality. Its as personal as I can go without using my real name and picture.
On here, my username is boring and I sort of regret using it. lol It’s just part of my first and middle names. On other sites, though, I do take the opportunity to use creative usernames or use real names that I enjoy. I found the name Lycoris once when I was younger (can’t find it now) and loved it, so that was a username for a while. I went through a magic/fantasy phase that produced MistandMagic35, which I still enjoy, though wouldn’t use. ElegantSarcasm was my go to for a long time. lol Currently, I am CeruleanSkies and VeridianFields on others sites, both of which are more interesting than ChelsAnne22. yawn CeruleansSkies is one of my favorites. So yea, I definitely (normally) use creating a username as an opportunity to find something fun, different, creative, evocative in it’s imagery, etc.
For NB I just picked my two favorites at the time (interesting to see that so many people like it ), however, if I could choose a new username, I’d go for something a bit more timeless, maybe more to do with my own name.
I didn’t put much thought into mine. GirlyWhirly is my go to username. When my sister and I were little my mom would call us her girlywhirlies. I would probably change it if I could to something more creative.
