The problem with Corinne

I am glad to hear that there are some younger people named [name_f]Corinne[/name_f] out there. Thank you for sharing this information - I don’t know a single person named [name_f]Corinne[/name_f] to ask!

My husband and I both love [name_f]Corinne[/name_f], pronounced KUH-rinn. We very nearly used this name for our daughter. I ended up letting go of [name_f]Corinne[/name_f] because of the CORE-inn or or KUH-reen problem. I also don’t care for [name_u]Corey[/name_u] or [name_f]Coco[/name_f] and worried that [name_f]Cora[/name_f] was more of a stand alone name than a nickname for [name_f]Corinne[/name_f] especially when I was planning to use KUH-rinn as the pronunciation.

I have known 2 adult Corinnes who don’t seem to have any problem with their name & I’ve met a baby [name_f]Corinne[/name_f] whose mom was calling her Rini like rhymes with [name_f]Minnie[/name_f].

In the end I let go of [name_f]Corinne[/name_f] cause I liked another name with less pronunciation issues a bit better. I also let go of [name_f]Helena[/name_f] for the same reasons.

[name_f]Helena[/name_f] is also on my list (and I know there are THREE different ways to pronounce it – UGH). I prefer HELL-IN-A.

I know a [name_f]Corinne[/name_f] who’s eighteen or nineteen. Her top complaint about her name is people hearing “Korean” instead of “[name_f]Corinne[/name_f]” and expecting her to be [name_f]Asian[/name_f]. Apparently this happens to her a lot?

My younger sister is named [name_f]Corrine[/name_f]. Occasionally, people mispronounce her name as Core-reen. I don’t know what sort of spelling issues she has encountered, but I wouldn’t let that turn you off. I think it is a great name! My sister went by the nn [name_u]Corey[/name_u] when she was younger (she was a huge tomboy) and now she is 27 so it ages well.

[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Corinne[/name_f]. I’ve always pronounced it “core-inn” as well.

In the thread below, I polled Nameberries regarding pronunciation. Hopefully, it helps!

That is a great poll! Thanks!

[name_f]Corinne[/name_f] is really pretty!

I would pronounce it “[name_f]Coreen[/name_f]”, but could easily correct to “[name_u]Corin[/name_u]”… It sounds lovely to me either way… (I have had the same quandary with the name [name_f]Annika[/name_f], with different pronunciations.)

I am a [name_f]Corinne[/name_f], pronounced “Core-een” and I get a lot of people saying “[name_m]Cor[/name_m]-ehn.” My parents meant to pronounce it “Core-een” and my mom admitted she should have spelled it [name_f]Corrine[/name_f]. Growing up, I went by [name_f]Cori[/name_f], which helped with pronunciation issues, but I think when I was growing up, there were so few people with the name that it’s not as much of an issue any more. My biggest pet peeve is when people look at it quickly and say “[name_u]Connie[/name_u].” I’m only in my 30s – [name_u]Connie[/name_u]?

Despite any pronunciation issues, I still love my name and I love the fact that I have always had people comment on it. It was a great gift to have an unusual name but one with a classic flair. I still love it when people say, “My grandmother was a [name_f]Corinne[/name_f].” It makes me smile all the time.

Thanks [name_f]Corinne[/name_f] - I am happy to hear that you have always gotten positive feedback on your name. I never thought about the [name_u]Connie[/name_u] angle - that gives me something else to consider!
