Thought on the name Draco?

Hey everyone! I just made this account because I can’t get back into my old one. I asked before what everyone thought of the name [name_m]Draco[/name_m], but since I can’t see that now and there may be new people here I wanted to know again what everyone thought. I know it has the harry [name_m]Potter[/name_m] connection but I don’t really care about that. I love that it’s a constellation and the meaning is dragon as I can use that for a nn. I find it hard to pick boys names, they never seem to stay but [name_m]Draco[/name_m] has been one I’ve loved for year’s. I just can’t imagine myself not using it but I also don’t want it to sound stupid either. What do you think

I like it. I know someone who named thier baby [name_f]Ginevra[/name_f] after [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] Weasley, and I know there have been girls named [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] after the character. If those can work, why can’t [name_m]Draco[/name_m]. It’s not like he was the main character.

I remember commenting about [name_m]Draco[/name_m] before so I searched my responses. I assume this one is yours?

I love the name [name_m]Draco[/name_m], but I think it’s best as a middle name. Still, if I met a little baby named [name_m]Draco[/name_m], I’d be thrilled! It’s very brave, bold, and gorgeous! Their mom would impress me and I’d definitely want to be her friend!

I mean, if you don’t mind the constant HP references, go for it. It’s a good name.

It’s a nice name, and I like the meaning and nn ‘Dragon’.
Although [name_m]Draco[/name_m] Malfoy is the first thing that comes to mind, it just seems like ‘his’ name, so I personally wouldn’t use it. I would like to see [name_m]Draco[/name_m] on a little boy though, it would be a pleasant surprise!

I really like the name! I don’t know the HP connection other from seeing it mentioned on here, so that’s not my first thought. I would also be impressed if I met a little [name_m]Draco[/name_m]!

The name is not my style, and I do think you would get Harry [name_m]Potter[/name_m] references, but I think it’s usable! I met a teenage boy named Draconis “[name_m]Draco[/name_m]”.

Yes that was my account :joy: thank you that’s so sweet

I love the name [name_m]Draco[/name_m]! I definitely want to use it if I have a son someday. I love the sound, meaning, and constellation connection plus I don’t mind the HP connection. He is my favorite character and I see him as more misunderstood than villainous (but I understand why others may see him that way). I think if you are willing to deal with the HP comments at first, they will go away quickly and kids don’t often bully for names like that. Character connections are cool. Plus I think [name_m]Draco[/name_m] is better than [name_m]Drake[/name_m], which is too connected to the rapper in my opinion and feels like it’s missing something.

I love the name [name_m]Draco[/name_m]. I’m not sure if my husband would ever let me do it cause of HP but it’s one of my favorites along with [name_m]Leo[/name_m]
[name_m]Leo[/name_m] and [name_m]Draco[/name_m]
[name_m]Lion[/name_m] and Dragon

I think it would be an awesome sibset

I actually really love it  I love just [name_m]Drake[/name_m] too.

If this is fully true (as in, not only do you not mind the association, but you won’t get annoyed by other people bringing it up), then go for it!

[name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] is the major stumbling block with this particular name, so if you really are not bothered by that at all and are sure that your child won’t be either, use it. [name_m]Draco[/name_m] does have a cool sound, I love O ending names.

For me personally, the association with [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] is too strong. And the books and films are still very popular; what if my child didn’t like sharing his name with a famous fictional villain? It’s quite an eye-catching name that would be bound to draw comments, good and bad.

I really like the name [name_m]Draco[/name_m] but i think you’d have to be prepared for the [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] comments

Draco just makes me think [name_m]Draco[/name_m] Malfoy and also just kinda sounds harsh. Sorry!

I think it’s interesting? I’m not a HP person myself so think more “Slavic” than “HP” lol. It’s nice. I think I like [name_m]Drake[/name_m] more but they’re both nice.

I really like [name_m]Draco[/name_m], both despite of and because of the [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] connection. It’s got a fun/cool sound. I think it could be hard to wear because of that connection, but maybe not for a baby born 10 years from now.

I think it’s a beautiful name but I think the reason [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] and [name_f]Ginevra[/name_f] are more usable is because they are seen more frequently out of the [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] context. Names like [name_m]Albus[/name_m], [name_m]Draco[/name_m] etc aren’t.

I think it’s better as a middle. You might be ok with the link but I would caution your future child may not. One short form of one of my kid‘s names is the same as a popular tv character and she gets sick of the jokes to the point that she hates her name.

It IS a lovely name, most of the HP names are, and there is a strong chance I will use [name_f]Ginevra[/name_f] for my next child. There are alternatives though. I quite like [name_m]Dragomir[/name_m] for a similar feel to [name_m]Draco[/name_m] without the obvious link.

I’m afraid the hp references (especially given draco’s character) are a bit too much for me, but I think it would be an incredible middle name!

Draco…
I wouldn’t use it for a human name. Sounds like what you’d name a pet.

Hmm, I like the name but the hp references might be a bit much so I would stick it as a middle.
