Thoughts on Ivy Noel Rose?

Hi All–my husband and I really like Ivy Noel (she will go by Noel for her first name…we think that Ivy Noel just rolls better than Noel Ivy), but are concerned with having two plants in her name (ouch). What do you think? Would love your honest feedback.

Ivy was the name of my great grandmother who raised my father. She was really the only family member on his side with whom he had any type of positive relationship. My maternal grandparents’ names are always used within the family, but nothing from my dad’s side ever is. I thought it would be nice to honor his history and family by using the one person in his family life who he has warm and positive feelings of. I just wasn’t sure though how big of a no-no it would be to have both Ivy and Rose in our child’s name!

Update: There was some confusion about the Rose part of the name. That is our Surname so it’s there to stay!

[name]Ivy[/name] [name]Noel[/name] [name]Rose[/name] is so lovely and I personally don’t think that having two flower names is anything to worry over.

I like the sound of [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Noel[/name] [name]Rose[/name], but I agree that having two botanical names is a little bit iffy - I personally wouldn’t do it, but it isn’t the worst thing ever. Some other ideas:

[name]Ivy[/name] [name]Noel[/name] [name]Grace[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name] [name]Noel[/name] [name]Robin[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name] [name]Noel[/name] [name]Roisin[/name] ([name]Roisin[/name] is actually just the Irish version of [name]Rose[/name], pronounced [name]Ro[/name]-[name]SHEEN[/name], but it’s not as obvious!)

I think [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Noel[/name] [name]Rose[/name] is beautiful and wouldn’t worry about the botanical aspect tbh. It’s far more interesting a combination than the [name]Lily[/name]-[name]Rose[/name] that seems quite popular too.My only reservation would be about calling her by a middle name? Might get a little wearing to correct people on it but then I suppose it would only be for official purposes/forms/doctors/schools/work etc and everyday life with family would be much easier! I’ve just heard that it can be trickier that way.

Can I ask how you’re pronouncing [name]Noel[/name] though? Is it the girly version as in No-elle, or the more masculine [name]Nole[/name]? I think either work ok in the front space tbh

Our last name is [name]Rose[/name], so we can’t change that part!

And thanks for the feedback–I hadn’t thought about other combos that don’t make me think twice about it.

We were going with No-L :). My dad uses his middle name as his first name (b/c he is named after his dad, which he doesn’t want to be), and from what I can tell it really hasn’t been a problem for him. In fact, I doubt most people even know that he has a different official first name.

Thanks for the feedback–it’s making me feel better!

Haha, I didn’t realize that [name]Rose[/name] was the surname - thought you were going for a double middle! Now I feel dumb. :stuck_out_tongue:

You shouldn’t! That’s the challenge with that name…it’s both a noun AND a first name! People call me that as my first name all time.

I had a similar problem with my maiden name - it’s a well known city and it’s been used as a first name (though it’s rare, thank goodness, because I’d hate it as a first name).

Oh I understand the last name delimma. My father’s last name is a very very very common first name, and people call her all the time asking for Lastname Firstname. :stuck_out_tongue:

I like [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Noel[/name], but I’d really rather [name]Noel[/name] [name]Ivy[/name]. [name]Noel[/name] [name]Rose[/name] is sooooo much nicer, than [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Rose[/name].
My brother goes by his middle name, so I’m familiar with that whole method, and have no problem with it, but I like [name]Noel[/name] [name]Rose[/name] better.

I’m called by my middle name, and it’s been a major pain for me throughout my life. In any official situation, I have to use my first name, because it’s just too much of a hassle to try to use my middle name. I’m still annoyed with my parents for that decision. If you really love [name]Noel[/name] (why not the more feminine [name]Noelle[/name]?) and want to use [name]Ivy[/name] too, I’d go with [name]Noel[/name] [name]Ivy[/name] over the more euphonic [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Noel[/name].

haha! You’re not the only one. But I noticed the whole [name]Christmas[/name] theme with [name]Ivy[/name] and [name]Noel[/name] before I noticed [name]Ivy[/name] and [name]Rose[/name] were both plant names. Still, [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Noel[/name] [name]Rose[/name] is very pretty!

Ahh I see. I assumed a double middle too, oopsy!

I would then say that [name]Noel[/name] [name]Rose[/name] (I was almost called [name]Noelle[/name], it’s lovely) sounds gorgeous and I prefer that to [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Rose[/name]

I [name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Noelle[/name].

Maybe [name]Noel[/name] [name]Ivette[/name] [name]Rose[/name]

or [name]Noel[/name] [name]Ivanna[/name] [name]Rose[/name]

If you have a problem with the 2 plants thing…which I don’t since [name]Rose[/name] is your last name!

I agree that being called by a mn is a real pain!! I love [name]Noelle[/name] [name]Ivy[/name] myself… I love the [name]Noelle[/name] spelling, also – It just kind of balances out the name.

[name]Noelle[/name] [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Rose[/name] is so pretty:-)

I think [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Noel[/name] [name]Rose[/name] is a beautiful name and I agree it flows really well. But, I’ve said [name]Noel[/name] [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Rose[/name] to myself a few times and I think this is lovely as well. I would name her in the order of how you will call her.

Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. I do like the way [name]Noelle[/name] looks…very feminine.

[name]Noel[/name] - boy’s name traditionally
[name]Noelle[/name] - girl’s name traditionally

If we’re talking about a boy, [name]Noel[/name] [name]Rose[/name] sounds really, really girly.

[name]Ivy[/name] [name]Noelle[/name] [name]Rose[/name] is so pretty, btw – but awkward to have plant names for fn and ln, imo – then again, quite distinctive!
