Thoughts on my name

Hey, I wanted to see your thoughts on my first name Ríona. I’m half Irish :shamrock: with an Irish last name beginning with M and my two middle names start with an A and an M.

Even though I’ve experienced years of no one being able to say my name correctly (Silent o), I love the more lowkey femininity to it and the meaning behind it, aswell as the unique Fada (í) on the “i”.

My family also calls me Ri,Ria or Rio(my favourite) as nicknames. :relaxed:

Yes! Irish people tend to say ree-uh-nuh with the “uh” sound being subtle.

I’ve never heard of your name, but I quite like it. It feels like a name that wouldn’t feel out of place in early 20th century [name_u]America[/name_u], but also could be a vintage revival name. Is it common in [name_u]Ireland[/name_u]?

You’ll might meet someone at least once called Ríona, but I think it was a little more used in the past compared to now.

I think it’s beautiful!

It’s really lovely! I’d have known how to pronounce it :innocent: but I can see that being a slight frustration for a Ríona outside of [name_u]Ireland[/name_u]. It seems like a name that works pretty well internationally though!

Rye-nuh or ree-nuh

I think it’s super pretty! Would work best in it’s native country, though.
