Thoughts on name Celyn vs Harriet for baby girl?

Looking for input on baby girl #3. We have an [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Maren[/name_f] [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] and like the names [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] or [name_m]Celyn[/name_m] (kell-in). [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] is a little older sounding but I think it’s sweet and you don’t hear it much. [name_m]Celyn[/name_m] is one I heard years ago and fell in love with the meaning (Holly - it’s a welsh name). Possibly [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] (Nora) as a first too but it’s more between [name_m]Celyn[/name_m] and [name_f]Harriet[/name_f].

We have also liked the names [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Frances[/name_f], [name_f]Fern[/name_f], [name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] - but for different reasons WILL NOT be using them as first names.

Middle name likely [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] as I like that it goes with the “EL…” of the other two girls, and i love the meaning. [name_f]Frances[/name_f] also a contender as middle spot as it’s got significant meaning for family.

We have asked opinions of some of our family and close friends (to anyone reading - DO NOT ask others opinions in your immediate circle!!) and it’s muddied up the decision for us. Any thoughts on these names? Appreciate it!

I prefer [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] with your other girls’ names! It’s a lot easier to pronounce than [name_m]Celyn[/name_m], it’s more feminine (like [name_f]Isla[/name_f] and Maren) and it just overall matches the style of [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Maren[/name_f] [name_f]Eloise[/name_f].
I love the name [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] “Nora” also, it’s one of my very favorites! [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] has a nice flow to it, and I like that it’s an “el” name like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Eloise[/name_f]! [name_m]Celyn[/name_m] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] has too much of the “el” sound to me.

I think it depends on where you live! If you’re in Wales, I think Celyn would be a nice choice! It goes well with Isla and Maren. If you don’t live in Wales though, I think you’d have a lot of issues with mispronunciation and it’d seem a bit out of place next to her sisters’ names? I love Harriet too – it feels timeless to me, not old lady or anything, and the nicknames are darling! Eleanor is okay but a bit plain, I much prefer your other two ideas (+ Ellie and Isla sound very similar, and Ellie is a very popular nickname for El- names at the moment). So overall, I’d go for Harriet!

Tough decision!!

I think I like [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] best for you - classic but a little more unexpected

Your oldest daughters have stunning names. I love the [name_f]El[/name_f]- theme for the middle name spot. [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] is a gorgeous, timeless name.
Between [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] and [name_m]Celyn[/name_m], I would go with [name_f]Harriet[/name_f]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] like you mentioned, [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] is traditional, but surprising and distinct. To me, it sounds friendly, warm, strong and adorable. [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] has wonderful namesakes. [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] has a beautiful flow.
[name_m]Celyn[/name_m] is gentle, interesting and it has a great meaning! Depending on where you live, Celyn’s pronounciation and spelling may not be intuitive for everyone. However, I feel that it is a really nice match for Isl@ and M@ren in terms of style and vibe.
I think [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] works very well with [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_f]Frances[/name_f]. For [name_m]Celyn[/name_m], my favorite combo is [name_m]Celyn[/name_m] [name_f]Frances[/name_f]. [name_m]Celyn[/name_m] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] would be pretty too.

I think I prefer [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] with your girls – sweet and soft with a vintage feel, but not too popular. Plus, there’s so many nickname options!

Thank you for the thoughtful feedback! We are in [name_f]Canada[/name_f] - I agree that [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] has a strong/adorable vibe and [name_m]Celyn[/name_m] in gentle and interesting. I also love [name_m]Celyn[/name_m] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. We also have a son and if he was a girl I was strong considering [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_m]Celyn[/name_m] at the time

Thank you for your feedback! Yes I can’t decide if [name_m]Celyn[/name_m] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] is too much EL sound for me or if I enjoy the repeating sound. Appreciate the thoughts

We are in [name_f]Canada[/name_f]. I like [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] but most likely would use [name_f]Nora[/name_f] as a short form - [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is a very popular name where we live and with friends/teammates etc - even though [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is cute! [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] more likely will end up in the middle spot just because we have several friends with Eleanors (who end up going by Ellie…still)

I’m here for [name_m]Celyn[/name_m]!
It’s just so pretty and unique! She’ll probably never meet another one unless in [name_m]Wales[/name_m] and I think that is lovely!

I do think the pronouncation isn’t intuitive but my sister has a non intuitive welsh name too and I asked her once if she was ever bothered by always correcting people and she said it was a little annoying but she thought it was worth it and wouldn’t change it for a phonetic version if she had the choice.

I wouldn’t try too hard to have a cohesive sibling name set as in reality they will be together as kids but not prob as much when adults.

Also [name_m]Celyn[/name_m] [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] is a nice combo if you wanted to have both names…
All the best with your choice you won’t go wrong either way!

With [name_f]Isla[/name_f] & [name_f]Maren[/name_f] my vote is definitely for [name_f]Harriett[/name_f]! It sounds distinct yet fits the vibe. [name_m]Celyn[/name_m] and [name_f]Maren[/name_f] have the same -n ending which make them feel less unique next to each other.

[name_f]Harriett[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] is lovely

Thank you so much for the feedback! Interesting about your sister’s name!

I love [name_m]Celyn[/name_m]! I am also in [name_f]Canada[/name_f] though and agree it will likely be hard from a pronunciation standpoint. [name_m]Celyn[/name_m] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] is also maybe a little bit repetitive on the “el” sound. In general I’m not a big fan of the name [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], I know a couple of little girls with that name though so I think it’s making a comeback perhaps!
Would you ever consider [name_f]Eleanora[/name_f]?

[name_m]Welcome[/name_m] to Nameberry!

I really love [name_m]Celyn[/name_m] for you. I quite like [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], but [name_m]Celyn[/name_m] has a certain youthful charm and nature connection like [name_f]Isla[/name_f] and [name_f]Maren[/name_f]. I’m not sure I love it with [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], though. [name_m]Celyn[/name_m] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] would work well with the “-el-” in [name_m]Celyn[/name_m] serving as your connection to the older girls’ middle names.

Eleanor/Nora [name_f]Harriet[/name_f]

Thank you for the feedback! I have considered [name_f]Eleanora[/name_f] (I liked the spelling Elinora also) and likely would nickname to just [name_f]Nora[/name_f]. I love the meaning of Eleanor/Eleanora/Nora etc - the 4 syllables of [name_f]Eleanora[/name_f] I thought might seem long next to my other children who all just have 2 syllables. We have a son also with a 2 syllable first name.

I do too  Thank you!

Yes it’s the nature connection I am quite drawn to with [name_m]Celyn[/name_m] also :). We also have a son who has a nature-meaning first name that is 2 syllables. Thank you for the feedback!

Desfinitely [name_m]Celyn[/name_m]! It’s more unique!
