The Reaper’s [name_m]Staff[/name_m]

On a chilly autumn night, the shadows deposit a package on the doorstep of an old stone house. It is unlabeled, unexplained, save for a note that reads:
“For sinners.”

At first, [name_f]Roisin[/name_f] McDonnell thinks this is a cruel joke. Something concocted by the intolerant village folk to scare her and her unorthodox lifestyle away from them and their Puritan severity. She unwraps the staff, gives it a wave, and puts it in a broom closet. They will not get to her, not like this.

The next day, [name_f]Roisin[/name_f] turns on the news to find a world in turmoil. Eight world leaders are dead at their desks, with no reason other than a dark dossier in front of each one, detailing all of their war crimes and domestic indiscretions. Their sins. [name_f]Roisin[/name_f] tunes in with the interest of a uninvolved viewer; nary a thought of the suspicious delivery crosses her mind.

But as the series of unexplained “vigilante killings” increases in scope and number, she begins to wonder about the scythe in her broom closet. Because, after all, the reaper’s responsibility is to cull the world of sinful souls. One wave of the reaper’s staff will reap a thousand souls…and [name_f]Roisin[/name_f] may have just set a new harvest into motion.

Ten years ago, a storm unlike any other nearly destroyed the kingdom of Etoralis. The citizens whisper in the streets that the king and queen drove each other crazy, and proved the old tales of two seers thought to be best friends turning on each other in a fit of madness. Left behind was a four year old princess, saved by the woman who killed her parents.

Now, [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] is fourteen, and slightly more preoccupied with learning as much magic as possible in order to take the throne back from the one who’s ruled for the past decade a few years early than making friends or starting any sort of relationships.

Verena’s going to kill her if she doesn’t hurry it up.

But ten years of lies and deception can’t be disproven over one afternoon, and the resulting charge of treason on her head only spins the spider’s web stronger.

So, as the heir apparent to the Etoralisian throne lies starving in a prison cell, it seems that nobody will come to save her. They see someone claiming to be the real heir of the throne, an ‘heir, apparent’, if you will, and not the only surviving royal left. But now that she’s got nothing left to lose, how far is she able to push [name_f]Verena[/name_f] before one of them breaks and admits defeat?

“To Admit Success”

To admit success would be to admit defeat. At least, that’s what [name_u]Robin[/name_u] thinks.

[name_u]Robin[/name_u] [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] [name_m]Winters[/name_m] has very high standards. Unless something is impeccable and flawless in every respect, she will not be satisfied. She will never claim victory until everything is absolutely perfect. These lofty standards apply not only to her schoolwork, daily duties, and even creative projects, but to her friendships as well. Unless her relationships are perfect by her standards, she will hide her heart away. That’s why she has so few friends, and is regarded as a social outcast at school. And she is perfectly happy with that, because she only needs people who truly want to be her friends.

But one day, a new girl comes to school, and [name_u]Robin[/name_u] immediately understands that they both have the same high standards. But [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_m]Woods[/name_m] has a secret, a dark, mysterious past that haunts her even now. [name_f]Clara[/name_f] is in danger, and she refuses to tell anyone why.

[name_u]Robin[/name_u] is determined to help [name_f]Clara[/name_f], and to do that, she needs to find out her secret. [name_u]Robin[/name_u] will not accept defeat–she will not let [name_f]Clara[/name_f] face this alone. She will not stop until she is able to admit success.

Ninth of Never

[name_u]Kit[/name_u] is not the type of girl to give up, but surely there’s a point where you’ve heard ‘you’ll never be able to pull that off’ so many times you realise it’s true, right?
Well, Kit’s been counting, and she’s on eight times for this particular endeavour of hers – creating a potion which will hopefully force the king to retract his ‘no magic’ law so she and the rest of the Kerei can stop living in fear. [name_m]Just[/name_m] eight times? Yeah, she can be told a few hundred more times that she’s never going to make it and every variation of the statement.
[name_f]Every[/name_f] ‘never’ she’s ever been told before just makes her more determined, so they’re really just going to make her try even harder. Slightly bad idea when the thing she’s trying hard on is liable to get her arrested, but since when did that stop anyone?
Here’s the thing, though – Kit’s parents are well aware of this fact, and they’ve got their own plan. If they can find a way to force their daughter to give up when she hears someone say ‘never’ (in regards to the project, of course), then she’s far less likely to get herself in trouble.
And so begins a race against the clock. With [name_u]Kit[/name_u] and her friends busy running all over the kingdom to find the ingredients for this potion and her parents hard at work in weaving their own spell, will Kit’s ninth never be the end of her adventure or will she be able to convince those who know her best that she can succeed this time?

Robin’s parents had ‘obsessions’ when they were younger, ornithology and gemology, both of which are very obvious when you look into the names of their children (whoever thought [name_u]Robin[/name_u] [name_f]Opal[/name_f] was a good combination please stand up!). They turned them into their professions later in life, something [name_u]Robin[/name_u] hopes to be able to do with one of her favourite topics one day.
You’d expect, if they were to be targeted for their knowledge, it would be the gemology side of things, but it’s not. Yet Robin’s father has disappeared too, leaving behind no more than a list of random locations, a locked box, and a coded letter.
With her older siblings thinking there’s nothing to be done and the younger ones too busy being scared out of their minds to really be much use, [name_u]Robin[/name_u] begins working on the mystery alone, discovering how deep this plot runs as she does. But there’s only so far she can look before it’s too late to turn back, and despite being named for birds, she can’t fly.
She can only fall.

All the trauma built up over his childhood years, that he was suppressed so deep down this entire time… It was resurfacing. It was affecting his job, his energy levels, and even his relationship with his wife! He knew he needed to seek help, but he didn’t know what to do. [name_f]Emmie[/name_f] would be worried if he starting going to therapy, but if he didn’t… He didn’t know what might become of him. He eventually decided, he just needed to Bury it Deep. Two years since the events of Crystalline, the [name_m]Martin[/name_m] family have all but recovered from the terrifying ordeal they faced (whether they were actually kidnapped or not, everyone was scared). But just when everything seems to have gone back to normal, [name_u]Robin[/name_u] disappears in the middle of the night, even though she’s been sharing a room with younger sister [name_f]Amber[/name_f] for the past year now.
[name_f]Amber[/name_f] didn’t see anything, but searching the room brings up an old note in unfamiliar handwriting (complete nonsense) full of annotations in Robin’s. Her sister began to get threatening notes seven months ago, and now it seems they’ve come to fruition. But [name_f]Amber[/name_f] was never the cryptography-obsessed girl [name_u]Robin[/name_u] was, so when the coded notes start getting delivered to her that claim to be hints to where she’s been taken, she’s got no idea where to start.
[name_u]Robin[/name_u] may have solved the kidnapping two years ago without (much) help from anyone, but [name_f]Amber[/name_f] doesn’t have a choice in the matter. If [name_u]Robin[/name_u] can’t be the hero this time, [name_f]Amber[/name_f] will take her chance to save the day, even if she’s able to take less credit.

Sink Beneath The Waves

For the past 3 months, weird things have been going on in the waters of Huxley’s hometown, Ryndow [name_m]Port[/name_m]. Fishing nets got ripped to shreds, boats had chunks of them taken out, things left by the pier were going missing, and their fish population was getting dangerously low.

Ryndow Port’s inhabitants whispered and gossiped about what could possibly have happened. A major common theme in these whispers were Ryndow Port’s oldest urban legend: The Gyndills.

The Gyndills were mysterious sea creatures. [name_m]Said[/name_m] to have lamp-like glowing eyes and an insatiable appetite. Lurking just beneath the water, hidden by the waves, waiting for a chance to strike and turn the unfortunate victim into their next meal. They exist for one sole reason, to torment those who go out to sea or those who lived by the sea. Both of which, unfortunately, was the entirety of Ryndow [name_m]Port[/name_m].

Sadly, not much else was known about the Gyndills. So when the opportunity presented itself, [name_u]Huxley[/name_u], and many others, jumped at the chance to learn more. Why now? Why Ryndow [name_m]Port[/name_m]? [name_f]Do[/name_f] they exist anywhere else? Is there any way to get them to leave?

It’s fine, though, since she’s sort of completely terrified of heights.
So it’s really just her luck when their quest for the [name_f]Ilma[/name_f] [name_m]Stone[/name_m] takes them into the Vaerlands, the place where many of the weather-powers air elementals live. A world above the clouds.

Summer and Ice

Sumina Swan is living in a nightmare - has been for nearly as long as she can remember. Nicknamed Summer for her ability to pull heat and light energy from the sun, her homeland of Kajo County viewed the magic as a rare and divine gift, and praised both her and her twin sister for their miraculous abilities. Those early years were full of light and laughter - until Entryne attacked. The war that followed killed the twins’ father, and forced Summer’s mother and sister to flee. Summer did her best to survive, but her magic could only do so much, and soon she and the rest of Kajo County was forced to surrender. Sentenced to a lifetime of servitude, Summer worked tirelessly for years, but with every hour bringing more labor and cruelty and pain, she couldn’t go on forever like this. She was starting to lose hope - until a conversation she wasn’t supposed to be part of mentioned magic in the western region of Montis Andris. It was a slim hope, but Summer would do anything at this point to escape her fate. But what she finds will be shocking - or rather, who she finds. . .

Isolde Swan, unlike her twin, has had a life of luxury. After the betrayal of her father and sister, she fled with her mother to the mountains of Montis Andris, where her magic was welcomed and revered. Her ability to create frost and snow in even the hottest conditions earned her the nickname Ice, and at fifteen, she’s now the youngest ever Commander of the Montis Andris military. Everyone seems to worship her - except Ice herself. She fears her own magic, thinking of it as a burden rather than a blessing, afraid that it will simply cause more trouble - and eventually even war. She’d do anything to be rid of it, even if it means sending the military out on innocent lands to find a shred of something to do with magic. She never would have imagined other lands would get to her first - in the same way she never imagined that her long-lost twin would turn up in mid-battle.

Summer wants to be on the same side as Ice, but finds it difficult to trust her sister after she fled Kajo County so many years ago. And Ice wants to trust Summer, but finds it hard to battle the urge to betray her sister, the same way she was betrayed so many years ago. Which sister’s story is the true one, and will they find a way to survive their battles together - or will their past repeat itself. . .

When the [name_m]Mountain[/name_m] Sings

The people of Litares [name_m]Mountain[/name_m] have been waiting. For hundreds of years, through war and peace, through drought and flood, they have waited on their mountain as they were instructed to do hundreds of years before by the last [name_m]Saint[/name_m], the last person to hear the mountain’s call.

Regga knows her history and her place. She will serve her people’s altar, sacrifice as many people as she has to to get her mountain to sing again. But her training as a sacrificial killer will be needed in battle when a growing empire poses threat to her sacred home.

[name_f]Araceli[/name_f] knows her orders. As the third and probably illegitimate daughter of the newly crowned Emperor, her one chance to prove herself comes at a price. She will stop at nothing to capture Litares [name_m]Mountain[/name_m] in the name of her family.

Regga and [name_f]Araceli[/name_f] would destroy each other in the blink of an eye. But when the mountain sings for the first time in centuries, calling to [name_f]Araceli[/name_f], the enemy princess, Regga makes it her mission to find out why. The two embark on the mountain’s holy quest, determined to hate, determined to survive. But as the mountain’s curse eats at [name_f]Araceli[/name_f] the more she resists, and as Regga struggles to bury her growing attraction to the princess, the mountain’s melodic orders may be impossible to fulfill. @RadiantSquid I actually really love your blurb for When the [name_m]Mountain[/name_m] Sings!

Scraping Up [name_u]Sky[/name_u]
(kind of a stretch, but. . . )

There are a lot of things [name_m]Kester[/name_m] Rinsling didn’t intend to do.

He didn’t intend to banish his sister by having what he thought was a harmless conversation with a Pixelline officer. He didn’t intend to destroy a revered monument when he found out the hard way what allurium could do to a statue made of copper. He didn’t intend to become the first Pramagi seen in centuries - and not just any Pramagi, but a Prismatic. And he definitely didn’t intend to shatter the sky.

And that’s not all. Divinia’s sky served as the only barrier between it and the Beyondlands, a realm of evil that was better left forgotten - as was the ancient spirit trapped inside it. And now that she’s freed, her one goal is to turn Divinia into the dark world she always wished for. What she doesn’t understand is that destroying Divinia’s light will also destroy Divinia. And it seems like the only thing that can stop her is the sky itself.

And to [name_m]Kester[/name_m], it means that the sky must have a magic of its own.

So now he and his friends have a plan (not a good plan, but it’s all they’ve got): Find each and every piece of the sky - scrape them up from the earth if they have to - then place the pieces back together, and use Kester’s power to re-position the sky back where it belongs.

What they haven’t realized is that the sky gains its magic from the people. And now that it’s broken, the people are starting to get their magic back. . .

(honestly, what is it with me and magic?)

Another Stupid [name_u]Love[/name_u] Triangle

[name_u]Romy[/name_u] has always hated the fantasy stories her twin sister devours, with them being chock-full of love triangle after love triangle after love triangle. She prefers to stick with books where there’s very little – if any – romance whatsoever as a rule. But her sister is, unfortunately, very persistent, and so [name_u]Romy[/name_u] agrees to give one book a try.
The idea is that she’ll deliberately complain about it so much that MIra will happily never talk about her rubbish books again, but what happens is… less than brilliant. When Mira’s book turns out to not be a book at all, rather a sort of gateway to another world, the twins are forced to take a leap of faith.
The land of Lysanora itself is pretty cool, Romy’s not going to pretend that fantasy worlds aren’t interesting, but what’s not so amazing is the fact that the twins appear to be the kinds of people every male is attracted to in these stories. With what’s meant to be yet another dumb love triangle being practically forced upon her, will [name_u]Romy[/name_u] be able to put up with the ridiculousness for long enough to reach the story’s close or will she leave her sister to the figurative (and also very literal) wolves?

She writes that her parents believe it doesn’t matter at all if someone is a boy or a girl, and that’s why they named her that.

Hazel makes sure to hide the letters with such dangerous knowledge from his parents, but overjoyed that their child is finally making a friend – a female friend! – , they still let him stay the summer with James and her family. Together, they set out on a quest to find answers: Why can nobody see that Hazel is a boy? Why do Mom and Dad say it doesn’t matter, but act like it matters a huge deal? Why are there boys and girls in the first place, and is there anything else? Why did everyone seem to understand what it means when James’ brother Robin was called “such a girl” by his friend Mya, but when he said “you’re such a boy” back, everyone just laughed? Why do you use different names for boys and girls but not for friends and strangers, or on Mondays and Tuesdays? And, most importantly, why do grownups have to make everything so complicated?

And all it took was her, an old spellbook from an antique shop, a blonde witch too eager to prove her abilities, and a boy named Ethion to prove it.

(Couldn’t find a good way to mention it but Gwen is also a witch, just isn’t too interested in doing a deep dive into old spells)
