The Chocolate Box

[name_f]Melissa[/name_f] has a secret.

When she helps out in her parents’ shop, a box sometimes appears, and it’s always full of chocolates. Odd, given that it looks more like a shortbread tin, but she doesn’t care about that bit.

These chocolates, see, aren’t normal. They’re magic, and she knows this because when she ate one, she turned invisible for an hour.

The second time, she found herself able to read minds.

So, a box of magic chocolates that can give you superpowers – briefly – and only appears from time to time… of course she’s going to tell her best friend!

But magic, especially magic food, is never to be trusted.

When sweet turns sour, can the two friends work out how to fix everything safely, or will the danger be too much?

When [name_u]Aspen[/name_u] Tide’s magic is stolen, things turn dangerous.

The only way to get it back is to get rid of the thief, and the only way to do that is with magic… right?

So begins the fight of the century — strength and weakness, luck and misfortune, magic… and a little bit of thought.

Let the game begin.

“You’re like a wildfire, mon chéri, you really are. Nothing and nobody is going to get in your way!” He grinned, glancing over at the stunning woman in the passenger’s seat. Hair catching the wind, honeyed eyes and brown skin shining in the summer sun, she threw him a brilliant smile.

“You’re damn right, habibi. And that’s why you love me.” The words slipped out like silk, teasing him in a sweet, mellifluous tone.

And love her he did. He loved her more than he though was possible. She was his sun, his moon, his fire.

And burn him she did. Engulfed his carefully constructed plans and lofty aspirations. She took his diamond ring and left him with a broken heart and a child he never wanted.

“You were a wildfire, mon chéri, you really were.” His eyes fill with crystal tears, helpless to stop them as they drop onto the soft fabric of the baby blanket. Honeyed eyes stare up at him with a questioning innocence, and he promises to never allow anyone to break his heart again.

But after seven long years have gone by, his wife enters his life again in a familiar blur, threatening to burn the thin stilts he’s built his new life on. When her wildfire lingers at the edge of his heart, will he escape unscathed? [name_u]Or[/name_u] will she burn it all down?

Two Moons

[name_f]Kiera[/name_f] had been living in the kingdom of Olivander her whole, entire life. She had always known the prophecy. What prophecy, you ask? Let her tell you:

When the eldest daughter of the chosen come to age
She should not hail the local sage
For her destiny is already laided out
Once two moons come out
Her destiny is to see
Whether the city is risen or falls

This meant that she was supposed to save or d@mn the kingdom when she came of age. The problem was she came of age yesterday & the two moons were out last night but she still didn’t feel like she knew what to do. Her friends would hopefully help her figure it out.

next: The Acorn

Okay, I got an idea when copying out some writing prompts, but it makes more sense if you add ‘Society’ to the end… since nobody’s answered yet, I’ll assume this isn’t a particularly inspiring title and write mine. It could probably work without the addition, so I have put it in [brackets].

Also, this is kinda long to me, so… yeah.

The Acorn [Society]

[name_f]Danica[/name_f] has never left the [name_f]Dome[/name_f], and for good reason. The world outside is nothing but endless wastelands, with nothing to survive off and nowhere to hide.

While everything is metal and concrete and the older people in the [name_f]Dome[/name_f] talk of things called trees, [name_f]Danica[/name_f] doesn’t see how the outside world could ever have been as green as they claim. All she’s seen beyond the glass is just greys and browns as far as any eye can see. Inside is where the colour is, and even if it’s totally manufactured… it’s better than the grey.

So the handprint on the outside of the glass is a shock to everyone.

As those in charge race to cover things up, spin tales of monsters that roam the wastelands, ensure the residents that things are perfectly alright inside the Dome… [name_f]Danica[/name_f] grows curious.

[name_u]Robin[/name_u] has been a part of the Acorn Society for his whole life, bringing life to a dying world with every passing day. As the Society close in on the strange glass half-sphere in the middle of the shrinking desert, though, it grows far more difficult.

With the toxic decrease of people’s memories of a green world poisoning the world around, it seems impossible to complete their task. What the Society needs is belief in a world beyond the windows that the rest of the world sees through now – narrow and tinted grey, they’re the root of every problem they’ve been facing.

Is one small handprint really enough to change that?

And as [name_f]Danica[/name_f] and Robin’s lives collide, will one girl be enough to make a difference, or will the Society fail the most important mission such a group has ever undertaken?

Birthright

For perfect families, the road of lineage is a straight one, unmarred by devilish claims and incendiary gossip.

[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_f]Theresa[/name_f] Arundell Effingham has a perfect family. She has spent decades crafting that family; from the day she stepped out of the convent of her adolescence and into the Earlship of Effingham, [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] has been nothing but fully, absolutely and unequivocally perfect. She gave birth to a perfect son, hired the most esteemed governesses and tutors–Latin and [name_u]French[/name_u], of course–, threw the most highly regarded parties, lunches, and outings, and did everything a perfect aristocratic might. She renounced the religion of her mother, she rebuked the sins of her father.

So why is this happening to her?

Why are the eyes on her, the whispers about her, when it’s him they should be worried about? Him, her husband, who somehow is never asked to be as perfect as she is? Him, the bastard son who showed up in town last week half-dandy, half-aristocrat, all-ambition? Him, her own son, who somehow seems wholly uncommitted to the world she bled for, the world she made just for him?

[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_f]Theresa[/name_f] Arundell Effingham has lost a lot of things in her life, but she will not lose her perfect family, and she will not lose her son’s birthright.

The Pink River

Fourteen years.

That’s how long it’s been since a baby has been born on Mahanea. Fourteen years ago, that horrid witch came and killed the women. Fourteen years that the men have lived on their own.

Leopold de Truett was only three when the curse was implanted. He barely remembers what a woman even is. Every so often, he’ll see a flash of his mother’s soft brown eyes, but otherwise, he’s completely ignorant to the meaning of this word that his father and uncles speak of so reverently.

One night, the light breeze carried a scrap of paper through the window. In the moonlight, he made out:

Leopold,

You don’t know me, but I’ve seen you and somehow trust you. I’m risking my life by writing this to you, but I’ve lived alone so long that I no longer consider death a curse but a blessing. I’ll be by the pink river behind the school tomorrow at dawn. Please come alone.

The words were so gentle and emotion-filled that Leo couldn’t help but read them over and over again.

Leo didn’t sleep that night, and he left for the river before the sun lightened the sky. Who was this stranger writing notes in the middle of the night?

Common sense argued otherwise, but for some reason, he couldn’t help but wonder if maybe today was the day he’d learn the meaning behind this thing called woman… and perhaps it would become more than a figment of his imagination.

O’Seamus Bar was dying… until Keira O’Seamus came home. Her dad had called her up in a frenzy while she was in Houston and promised he only needed one year. So she left Texas as soon as her contract was up and moved back home.

O’Seamus Bar became the one and only place anyone could come and hear Keira O’Seamus, country singer and traditional Irish performer. Business skyrocketed, and Chris hated it. He was serving new and improved drinks — top of the line whiskeys, scotches, and wines — to top of the line customers — football players in the NFL, LA millionaires, and movie stars with attitudes to match their bank accounts.

Until Keira lost her voice in a freak accident in which an irate and very drunk customer flung a bottle at Chris, who ducked… allowing the bottle to smack Keira in the throat and head.
