I thought I would open a new thread for those of us trying to conceive in 2013! The 2012 thread had lots of good news right up until the end of the year, so I’m not sure how many of us are still trying to conceive. Here’s hoping we can all receive the same good news and start out our year with our own BFPs!
To give a personal recap, my husband and I have now tried for four months unsuccessfully. We have no children to date. I’ll be ovulating around [name]January[/name] 6-8, and am excited to give it another shot! We have no reason to believe that we have any fertility issues, though I did struggle with vaginismus (involuntary muscle contractions that prohibit vaginal penetration/sex) following a near-fatal car accident and traumatic pelvic/vaginal injuries in 2010. All is well now, and we were able to begin TTC back in [name]September[/name]. We’re just trying and waiting and praying for a baby. Wishing all the best to those of you who are still trying as well!
My husband and I started TTC right away (once married) and it took Over 1 year to get pregnant AFTER seeking fertility help! We were very lucky and got pregnant with our son after only 1 round of CLOMID…
I have always been irregular and also had a section of my left ovary removed due to a large cyst when I was 21… Turns out I didnt ovulate… The clmoid fixed that!
Since my son was born (over 2 years ago) we have used NO form of birth control at all and NOTHING (again)! We took 1 cycle of clmoid in [name]April[/name] and NOTHING… we took a break over the summer and have to go back for MORe testing in fall… We are now on a higher dose of the same drug that helped us get preggo with the first so hopefully it works!!!
I ovulated on the 30/31st [name]December[/name] so I am now in my TWW (two week wait)! Im really hoping it sticks!!!
My husband and I have been TTC since march of last year. Still no luck, But I was ovulating over the [name]Christmas[/name] week so now im in the waiting period… but with the holidays and tons of people over it was hard to “make it happen” so im a lil discouraged about this month. But still hoping for the best! We will be going for fertility check up come this march. Praying that nothing is wrong…
Hello and good luck to all. We just started trying for our fourth child. My husband had a vasectomy about 6 years ago, after we’d been fortunate enough to welcome three babies in a 2.5-year span. We were so exhausted at the time, and he was in graduate school, but we were also very young (he was 26 and I was 24). So much regret have I had over that vasectomy!
He’s had a reversal, after years of deliberation, and we just went off the pill and started trying this month. His sperm count looked excellent at last check. Hopefully everything is in order on my end of things and will remain that way on his end. Should find out in a few days if we were able to make things happen this cycle.
Lots of symptoms (nausea, breast tenderness), but my mind could certainly be playing tricks on me. Having a very hard time being patient with the wait, since I have wanted to have more kids for what feels like a very long time (he only recently got on board). I am nervous because we haven’t ever “tried” to have children; we were so blessed and didn’t realize the extent of that blessing.
My husband and I are starting our baby making journey this month! I have PCOS (poly cystic ovarian syndrome) and next week we are starting fertility treatments. This disease has been such an overwhelming part of my life for the past 10 years and i just hope and pray it wont dictate this next chapter like I have been dreading it would. Going into this with a positive attitude but I am nervous!
Thanks for starting this post, Alzora. It will be great to follow similar journeys while going through this myself. Good luck, all!
A little about our situation:
I was on the previous thread for a long time, and I valued all the support I received there. It helps to have people to talk to.
We’ve been TTC for almost a year. We actually started the prep work a year ago, and started the timing, etc in the [name]Spring[/name]. We have a 4 yr old little boy who is desperate for a sibling - to the point of asking an amazing amount of embarrassing questions.
I have Endometriosis. It was discovered when we were TTC our son. That time around, I got pregnant 24 days after the laproscopic clean up surgery. I subsequently went on the highest form of chemical birth control to control the growth of the Endometriosis, in the hopes of being able to conceive easily when we were ready. My mom got leukemia, and that put our lives on hold for over 2 years. She’s better now, thank God. And we’re back on the TTC band wagon.
I had the laproscopic surgery again Nov. 9th. I haven’t conceived yet. I’m taking the middle amt of Femara, and am ovulating (thank you Wondfo tests!) and my [name]Basil[/name] Body temp is consistent with Ovulation. But it’s not happening. I ovulated over the [name]Christmas[/name] week as well, and am now eagerly awaiting [name]January[/name] 9th. So… we’ll see. If this doesn’t work, our last option is IVF.
I was also on the previous thread but only for a few posts.
A little bit about my situation:
My husband and I have been ttc our first child since a miscarriage in 07 at 10 1/2 weeks, we tried naturally for 3 years before I discussed the situation with my then ob/gyn. We went through 3 unmonitored cycles of clomid never getting our bfp. We took a break from trying after that because I was just emotionally drained and disgusted with my then ob/gyn. I found a new ob/gyn in '11 and after a year of weight loss(so far down only 38 lbs but its better than nothing), we just went through our first round of clomid 50 mg with day 21 progest. testing. Unfortunately the progest. test came back negative. Since I do not ovulate on my own, my ob asked me to wait a week and come in for an hcg(just to be sure), then I will start provera again. Then we will move onto our second round of clomid 100mg, day 14 u/s and day 21 progest. test.
Good luck to all you ladies, hope you all receive your bfps very soon!
Ahh, congratulations, mill! Look at that–one day into the new year and already we have good news on the thread. I guess we’re off to a great start! To the rest of you, good luck with it, and keep us all posted! I’m eagerly awaiting the weekend for ovulation. I tend to be a bit irregular, so the plan is to go at it like rabbits for about five or six days and see what comes of it.
[name]Hi[/name], I’m a huge name nerd and longtime nameberry lurker. I finally decided to join so I could participate in this thread and maybe help others choose the perfect name for their little one.
My DH and I have been married for almost 6 years and we are finally trying for our first! I am 31 and am a little nervous about just starting to TTC after 30, but we had a lot of fun and did a lot of traveling so I have no regrets about waiting. I just pray we didn’t drag our feet too long and can get pregnant without any problems. I have friends my age who have had fertility problems and my heart breaks for them.
Anyway, I look forward to sharing this journey and hearing everyone’s (hopefully) good news in the coming months!
[name]Hi[/name] everyone! I have been a non-active member on Nameberry for a while but I’ve been waiting for the new year to join a TTC thread. I am 29 and have been married to my husband for over 2 years. We tried to conceive for 2 months in the summer of 2011 without luck but then we stopped because I had a nervous breakdown during my doctoral candidacy exams and my life was basically put on hold for a year plus I was put on Zoloft and didn’t want to TTC while I was on medication.
This time around we started TTC in [name]October[/name] so we have had 3 unsuccessful cycles. I actually got my period shortly after midnight on [name]New[/name] Year’s so I’m a little bummed that I started out the year on that disappointing note. I have super regular cycles and my basal body temperature tells me that I always have an 11 day luteal phase (which should be just long enough), but I can’t help but worry because I have been wanting a child for so long and I ultimately want 3 so I need to get started!
Anyway, good luck to everyone and thanks Alzora for starting this thread!
A little history: started dating when I was 21 and him 22. I moved 2000 miles away, but hubby followed a yr later. Then our cat followed a year after that (we are a tight-knit family of three). We married in 2010 and bought our charming little home just 6 months after that. Sigh, here is the good part, I have a previously unbeknownst autoimmune blood clotting disorder which will only get more fabulous once I get pg. This means I get to take a baby aspirin everyday now and maybe daily blood thinning. So on top of that I have no immunity to rubella. This means you have to get a booster shot and then most definitely use contraception for three months or it will f’ up yo shi. I am not getting the dumb booster.
@poppy, we use Preseed too! I’m hoping that hasn’t caused us to have four failed cycles? I know it’s not SUPPOSED to interfere, but I wish I knew for sure. I’m sorry to hear about all the health complications you’ve had. Are the shots called Heparin? I had to have those after my bad car accident two years ago. I had to give them to myself in the stomach twice a day. But you would have the advantage of knowing that you were doing it for a really joyful and happy reason (your baby’s health!). I hope you get your little baby soon, and perhaps they can use another type of blood thinner for you!
@violetindigo, my mom was 30 when she got pregnant with me and my twin sister, and about 36 when she got surprised with our baby sister. It may take some time, but I have high hopes that you will get pregnant. I know plenty of woman who conceived in their 30s.
@expensivemarket, I got my period on [name]Christmas[/name] [name]Eve[/name], so I guess we both got it at the worst possible times! I don’t know about you, but I cried. Better luck next month!
So sorry to hear of the APA, but you are very lucky it was diagnosed now, before you lost any children. Usually it’s picked up only after 2-3 miscarriages.
Anyway, much more importantly, do you live in Washingon State? If so you should know that the anti-vaccination movement is stronger there than anywhere in the country, such that the rates of complete MMR immunization are in the 70s-- yes, 70s, lower than most developing countries. There have been large, hundreds-to-thousands of cases of many of the preventable childhood diseases, including rubella. If you’re not immune I would absolutely get the booster. Yes, you can’t get pregnant while the virus is in your system-- because congenital rubella is a TERRIBLE thing. [name]Baby[/name] will be deaf with a host of birth defects and neurological problems.
Great to hear from you ladies. It feels awesome finally talking about all these things. I basically broke up with a best friend (who is a dr) because when I was telling her all about the work up she thought it be a great time to tell me about her latest shmashmortion (numero 2).
I know I should really get the MMR booster, but I’m hoping and praying that herd immunity will be strong enough in my great hippy state to protect me.
Question: any other drug store methods to increase fertility? BBT testing was just not for me. I also bought Fertility Scope (saliva fertility test) and that was likewise not for me. Anything I’m missing??
@alzora, I stopped myself from crying because I was at a friend’s party so I just had to momentarily convince myself that it could be implantation spotting. My family always says that the way you start off the new year will characterize the rest of the year so I was worried that I won’t get pregnant this year, but I just have to keep reminding myself that I’m not superstitious.
Also, I am just about to order PreSeed to use in this month’s cycle. I assume it can’t hurt! @poppy528, Have you tried Mucinex? I was thinking of also starting to use that this month because I am not convinced my cervical mucus is of the most fertile quality.
@poppy-- that is what I was trying to say, that herd immunity in WA is not at sufficient levels. There, more than literally anywhere else in the country, you should be wary-- especially if you live in the Seattle environs. Lowest vaccination rate in the developed world is [name]Vashon[/name] Island, which is hardly surprising.
It’s a tough balancing act, I agree. The number of actual reported cases of rubella as published by the CDC is vanishingly low. I suppose, if you had to play the odds, the chance of a disabling flare once your biologics are withdrawn is much greater than the chance of being exposed to an active case of rubella.
Charting your basal body temperature and all that is of limited utility. All it will really do–assuming you do it 100% correctly-- is help you time intercourse properly. If you’re having regular, frequent intercourse, it doesn’t add much value. Quite a lot of inconvenience and work for basically nothing. If you have any ovulation disorders, mechanical obstruction, endometriosis, PCOS, what have you… nada. It’s very passive and completely non-interventional.
I have heard of ladies using Mucinex (guaifenesin) although I haven’t done so. It’s category C in the US which makes me wary (it is category A for you Aussies though). I might try it next month.
