Twin Names Poll

Out of curiosity when it comes to twins/triplet names, how matchy do you like them to be?

  • same letter e.g [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] and [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
  • rhyming e.g [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and [name_f]Isla[/name_f]
  • same meaning e.g [name_f]Ava[/name_f] and [name_f]Zoe[/name_f]
  • themed e.g [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] and [name_m]Bear/name_m
  • Completely individual, no links

I feel like people might differ on this, personally i like a theme (maybe not quite as obvious as [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] and [name_m]Bear[/name_m] but like a Vintage theme or something) and i think a shared meaning can be sweet.
[name_f]Answer[/name_f] the [name_u]Poll[/name_u] and tell me your fav twin combos!

I like themes (including similar meanings) if it works, but I also don’t mind unrelated names.

My favorite relationship would be a shared sound that’s not an exact rhyme or the same first letter. For example:

Felicity & [name_f]Iris[/name_f] (“iss” sound)
[name_m]Byron[/name_m] & [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] (strong “R” followed by o)

I like them to have a link, but it doesn’t bother me if they don’t.
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] (5 letters and an “L”)
I also like if they have unrelated first names but themed middles.

I like themes, same letters don’t bother me as long as they sound different.

I like it when at first glance they look like separately individual names, but they actually have a secret theme. For example, if the number 8 was important to your family then you could have twins Octavia, which means eight, and Isabella (has 8 letters). I really dislike same initials and rhyming names for twins because I’m not a fan of anything too matchy!

I like the names to end in the same sound,
like [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] & [name_f]Danica[/name_f] or [name_u]Finley[/name_u] & [name_f]Gracie[/name_f].

I like “themes” but not THEME themes… I dunno how clear that is. Basically just similar in style- [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] and [name_m]Bear[/name_m] would work, I guess. Also, my top twin combo is structurally similar: [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Tulip[/name_f] [name_f]Aderyn[/name_f] and [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] Seabird- both have an uncommon first name, a flower-related second name, and a bird-related third name.

I have a twin and our names are very different. Er!c and Ju$t!n don’t have much in common other than the fact that they were both popular in the 70s/80s.

I prefer themed names, like [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and [name_f]Luz[/name_f], both Spanish names that have to do with light. They don’t sound too similar but follow a type of pattern.

I like themes as long as it’s not obvious.

I voted “completely individual, no links” because I find a theme like [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] and [name_m]Bear[/name_m] a little too overt, and I’m not the biggest fan of alliteration or rhyming. Same meaning is sweet if it’s subtle but it’s not necessarily something I’d seek out. I think of twin combos similarly to any sibling combos–personally I’d want them to feel stylistically adjacent, but still sound completely distinct from one another.

I would name them no differently than any other siblings - similar in style, no link. I’m not personally a fan of any kind of theme in multiples names or sibling names.

When it comes to multiples, I’m okay with using the same letter, same meaning, or same theme, as long as the names are distinct. I’m also okay with using completely individual choices!

I like twins to have names with some sort of theme that unifies them (letters, themes or meaning. I personally don’t like rhyming names (like [name_f]Terri[/name_f] and [name_f]Sherri[/name_f] in the Simpsons, [name_u]Phil[/name_u] & [name_f]Lil[/name_f] in Rugrats) just because it’s a little too cutesy and comical. I wouldn’t be able to take them seriously. They need to sound different and be able to stand out as an individual if needed.

My current favourite names for twin girls are
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Bluebell[/name_f] & [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] (begin with the same letter, have unusual flower names for middle names) and [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] & [name_f]Luna[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] (moon related first name, same letter for middle names).

I like all of the options besides rhyming names. I particularly like shared meanings, I think that’s a really cool connection, but pairs of names that go together and share a meaning are really difficult to find.

I’m not sure how to answer this in one option.

I’m one for having individual names with a leaning toward honoring someone or something beloved to us, but I’m not opposed to them starting with the same letter either (e.g. I like Tɛgᴀn and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], but more for who they honor – the fact that they start with the same letter is merely coincidence). I also don’t mind themes (subtle nature themes are often my go to). If they have similar meanings usually lies in the territory of them having a themed name or who we’re honoring.

I voted for same letter. I like [name_u]Darcey[/name_u] & [name_m]Damien[/name_m] for one of each gender. I quite like [name_m]Edwin[/name_m] & [name_u]Elias[/name_u] for two boys and [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] & [name_f]Azalea[/name_f] for two girls.
I have a soft spot for quite matchy names such as [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] and [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]

I like themed or names that sound like they come from the same theme (ex: flower names, nature names or even names used in the same time period) however my top two girls names that I would use for twins rhyme. For some reason names that rhyme don’t bother me as much as using the same initial. I especially love themed middle names !!

I have three kinds, sometimes I combine them

  1. Same syllables
  2. Same letter
  3. same theme (like [name_f]Avalon[/name_f] [name_f]Hope[/name_f] and [name_m]Evander[/name_m] [name_u]True[/name_u] or [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f])

yes! That makes a lot of sense, for me they need to seem individual to an extent but i think its nice if there’s some connection xx

I loved themed names! Same initials or endings are a nice idea, as long as they aren’t too similar. Same meanings are lovely too!
