We are expecting twins late this summer, and I appreciate everyone’s comments on my last post (about [name_m]Callum[/name_m] and Caroline). I didn’t get to reply (twin morning sickness had me exhausted!), but I read them all and appreciate the feedback.
[name_f][/name_f]
Since my last post, we found out the genders [name_f][/name_f]- two boys!! We are fairly settled on the name for one twin [name_f][/name_f]- [name_m]Reed[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]- but we are trying to find a name for the other boy.
[name_f][/name_f]
We’d like the names to have some similarity without being too identical. We would like there to be some nature or subtle Biblical connection, but would like names that are established as names (rather than nature terms). The last name will be F1$her.
Our current favorite is probably [name_m]Clay[/name_m], but I wonder if it’s too much together with [name_m]Reed[/name_m], since they are both nature nouns?
[name_f][/name_f]
I’d like to hear everyone’s thoughts on these names, and if you have other suggestions for similar names. Thanks!
I’m sure there are a number of winning combinations, but here are some I like (and as a twin who is against matchy-matchy but I get you want some stylistic connection there):
I don’t really warm to Clay or Brock myself and while I’d not belly go for Clay of the two, I might pick Brock with your last name so doesn’t sound like cray fish*ng or anything closer to that.
I wonder whether - with your last name - Reid instead of Reed might be better meaning-wise and it’s less descriptive if you choose Reid & Clay - “Clay coloured reeds in the water with a fsher nearby” etc. Obviously ignore if you only like the Reed spelling and I’m putting these names through the stress test, but I would at least consider switching to Reid.
Congratulations!! [name_m]Reed[/name_m] is such a handsome choice. From your existing list, I’m really loving [name_m]Callum[/name_m] with [name_m]Reed[/name_m] – they both have a more subtle nature connection & sound lovely with your last name, but still have their own separate sounds. [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Clay[/name_m] is great, too – not too much with [name_m]Reed[/name_m], I don’t think – but I do prefer [name_m]Callum[/name_m] in general.
[name_f][/name_f]
A few more suggestions you might like [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Arthur[/name_m] (“bear”) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Orson[/name_m] (“bear cub”) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Barrett[/name_m] (“bear strength”) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] (“sun”) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Samson[/name_m] (“sun”) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Rhodes[/name_m] (“where roses grow”) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Adam[/name_m] (“son of the red earth”) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Halston[/name_m] (“hallowed stone”) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Adler[/name_m] (“eagle”) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Jonah[/name_m] (“dove”) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Ronan[/name_m] (“little seal”) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] (“from the fjord land”) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] (“great stream”)
[name_f][/name_f]
A few pairings (though all of them would work great with [name_m]Reed[/name_m], too!!): [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Arthur[/name_m] & [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Adam[/name_m] & [name_m]Jonah[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Ronan[/name_m] & [name_m]Barrett[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Halston[/name_m] & [name_m]Adler[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Arthur[/name_m] & [name_m]Samson[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Rhodes[/name_m] & [name_m]Barrett[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] & [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Orson[/name_m] & [name_m]Rhodes[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f]
Overall, I’d say my favorites for you would be [name_m]Callum[/name_m] & [name_m]Reed[/name_m], [name_m]Reid[/name_m] & [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m], or [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] & [name_m]Barrett[/name_m]! [name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helped!
I think [name_m]Reed[/name_m] and [name_m]Clay[/name_m] are a bit on-the-nose theme-y together, especially with your wordy lastname. I really like [name_m]Reed[/name_m] & [name_m]Callum[/name_m] together. [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] is great as well, but I don’t love it with your lastname.
I love [name_m]Reed[/name_m]! [name_f]My[/name_f] immediate thought was [name_m]Reed[/name_m] & [name_m]Brooks[/name_m][name_f][/name_f] which sticks with the nature idea without being too matchy
I really like [name_m]Callum[/name_m] with [name_m]Reid[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]- probably my favourite option!
[name_f][/name_f]
I do like [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] too, but not sure on it with your last name. [name_m]Clay[/name_m] is pretty cool, but not a big fan of [name_m]Brock[/name_m].
Congratulations! [name_m]Reed[/name_m] & [name_m]Clay[/name_m] are a sweet pair [name_f][/name_f] I also really like [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] (not fond of the shared “er” sound with F i s h e r though).
Obsessed with [name_m]Reed[/name_m] for you !! 2 boys sounds like so much fun [name_f][/name_f],
[name_f][/name_f]
Of your options I think [name_m]Reed[/name_m] & [name_m]Callum[/name_m] are my favourite pair [name_f][/name_f]!
[name_f][/name_f]
With [name_m]Reed[/name_m] I can see a brother [name_f][/name_f]: [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Brooks[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Wren[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Hayes[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Oakland[/name_f]
Congratulations! [name_m]Reed[/name_m] is a great name. [name_f][/name_f] I don’t love [name_m]Reed[/name_m] and [name_m]Clay[/name_m] together though because, like you said, they are both nature nouns. It feels too on the nose to me. I think [name_m]Reed[/name_m] and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] or [name_m]Reed[/name_m] and [name_m]Callum[/name_m] work really well though! Both excellent options.
[name_f][/name_f]
Other suggestions for nature theme… [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Reed[/name_m] and [name_m]Ash[/name_m] (tree) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Reed[/name_m] and [name_m]Barrett[/name_m] (nn Bear) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Reed[/name_m] and [name_m]Leo[/name_m] (lion) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Reed[/name_m] and [name_m]Cove[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Reed[/name_m] and [name_m]Orion[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Reed[/name_m] and [name_m]Onyx[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Reed[/name_m] and [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Reed[/name_m] and [name_m]Archer[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Reed[/name_m] and [name_m]Grey[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Reed[/name_m] and [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f]
Suggestions for subtle biblical connections… [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Reed[/name_m] and [name_m]Aaron[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Reed[/name_m] and [name_m]Amos[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Reed[/name_m] and [name_m]Asa[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Reed[/name_m] and [name_m]David[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Reed[/name_m] and [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Reed[/name_m] and [name_m]Adam[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Reed[/name_m] and [name_m]Boaz[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Reed[/name_m] and [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Reed[/name_m] and [name_m]Daniel[/name_m]
I think [name_m]Reed[/name_m] is really handsome, outdoorsy and soft. Looking at your list I really like [name_m]Callum[/name_m] and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]. I think [name_m]Clay[/name_m] feels very fashionable especially with [name_m]Reed[/name_m] but I do see how they feel matchy matchy. Concerning [name_m]Brock[/name_m] he isn’t my favourite I find the vibe of him a little harsh.
[name_f][/name_f]
You’ve had lots of lovely suggestions so count any repeats as me being in agreement with the berries
I love callum and [name_m]Reed[/name_m]! [name_f][/name_f]I loke how they both have a double letter which i think is nice as they are twins and is s subtle link between two lovely names! [name_f][/name_f]Congratulations and all the best!
For some reason Crosby and Cyrus came to mind, but they might be a totally different style than Reed so not sure why I thought of those. Crosby isn’t specifically Biblical, but it means “town with crosses on a hill”, or something to that effect.
I like @EloiseT ‘s suggestion of Reid and Gideon! they look and sound cohesive without being too matchy matchy. I also like Heath that she suggested.
I like @daisydarcy ‘s suggestion of Adler! Think it would go nicely with Reed.
We have a Clyde who we debated naming Clive, so I like @VEL ‘s suggestion of Clive. (Also using their suggestion of Ransom for a middle).
Instead of Reed, you could do Reeve/Reeves and Clive. Or Reed and Clyde. Clyde is a river in Scotland, I believe, so a subtle nature element to it.
Reed Ransom and Clyde Shepherd would both have subtle nature meanings for the firsts and obscurely Biblical references for the middles.
I would adore [name_m]Reed[/name_m] and [name_m]Callum[/name_m]. I think they pair quite nicely together (or [name_m]Reed[/name_m] and [name_m]Cal[/name_m] if you shorten it). [name_m]Cal[/name_m] is similar to [name_m]Clay[/name_m] since you like that more so right now.
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Clay[/name_m] is not a bad name, but I do prefer [name_m]Callum[/name_m]. [name_m]Clay[/name_m] [name_m]Fisher[/name_m] does sound a little too similar to Cray Fishing imo.
[name_f][/name_f]
I will add a bit of nature and a bit of Biblical suggestions below.
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Reed[/name_m] and [name_f]Briar[/name_f] (bush of wild roses) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Reed[/name_m] and [name_m]Bram[/name_m] (father of multitudes) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Reed[/name_m] and [name_m]Jonah[/name_m] (dove) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Reed[/name_m] and [name_m]Adler[/name_m] (eagle) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Reed[/name_m] and [name_m]Orson[/name_m] (little bear) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Reed[/name_m] and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] (olive tree) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Reed[/name_m] and [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] (helper) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Reed[/name_m] and [name_m]Silas[/name_m] (forest, wood) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Reed[/name_m] and [name_m]Abram[/name_m] (high father) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Reed[/name_m] and [name_m]Ellis[/name_m] (kind, the [name_m]Lord[/name_m] is my God) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Reed[/name_m] and [name_m]Emmett[/name_m] (truth) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Reed[/name_m] and [name_m]Micah[/name_m] (who is like God)
Your comment was really helpful in thinking about the [name_m]Reid[/name_m] spelling. And I had not thought about [name_m]Clay[/name_m] F i s h sounding like crayfish! But that would definitely be something we want to avoid. Stylistically, you got us right [name_f][/name_f]- I really like the names you suggested and many of them have been on/off the list over the last few months.
[name_f][/name_f]
How interesting that you are a twin! [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any other thoughts about naming twins? I am trying to remember that I’m naming two separate people, but they also will be compared to each other so I want to make the names as fair/balanced as possible!
