What are your favorite girls' names and why?

[name]Just[/name] wondering!
~ Fuzzycub

[name]Louisa[/name] [name]Delphine[/name]- I think this combination is delightful, i think [name]Louisa[/name] is one of the prettiest and girliest names and the moment i combined [name]Delphine[/name] with it i feel in love with both names.

[name]Ruby[/name] [name]Anneliese[/name]- I have loved [name]Ruby[/name] for a long time and I think [name]Anneliese[/name] is a beautiful combination

[name]Prudence[/name] [name]Inez[/name]- Inspired by one of mine and my boyfriends favorite bands, The Beatles.

[name]Felicity[/name] is my all time favorite girls name. It’s frilly, sweet, unusual and has adorable nicknames.

After her, [name]Cordelia[/name] is another one that always seems to stick on my list. Anytime someone asks for combos, my head automatically tries to pair it with [name]Cordelia[/name], lol. I don’t know why - it’s long and girly like I like, but it seems to lack the frill that always gets me. I guess she’s more sensible than my other normal choices. [name]Cordelia[/name] would definitely be a top contender for another baby girl.

[name]Hazel[/name] - because it is intelligent, humble, serious and not overly frilly but fun and spunky; underused, not overly common; has Biblical links; has vintage charm, grows well with a person as they age; is substantial with respectable history; is both a plant and color name; and is not too long and not too short.

[name]Matilda[/name] - because it is serious, humble, and not overly frilly, but still spunky and fun (can you see the trend here? ); not overly common; it has a vintage charm, a sort of veiled beauty that you gradually understand each time you hear/see it; has respectable history; also, the book and movie of the same title which mean a lot to me personally; and the plethora of great nicknames ([name]Mattie[/name], [name]Tilda[/name], [name]Tillie[/name], [name]Tallie[/name], [name]Milla[/name], [name]Millie[/name], etc.).

[name]Hazel[/name] is my ultimate favorite and has been since I was in fourth grade about. [name]Matilda[/name] comes in second.

[name]Magnolia[/name] - It’s easy to spell and pronounce, but still uncommon. It’s spunky and solid, but also really sweet, especially with the nn [name]Maggie[/name]. I also really love the old-fashioned Southern charm it has. Bonus points that it’s a flower name, too

[name]Lila[/name] - I love this name because I think it’s really “delicate”, but also solid. I love that it ages beautifully - I could picture a baby [name]Lila[/name], teenager [name]Lila[/name], mommy [name]Lila[/name], grandma [name]Lila[/name].

[name]Violet[/name] - This is probably my all time favorite name - I’ve loved it for 4-5 years now, which is a long time for me. Again, I love that it’s easy to spell and pronounce, and that it’s a flower name. I love the color as well

[name]Magnolia[/name] is my favorite name right now, but I’m sure that when I do have kids, I’ll go with either [name]Lila[/name] or [name]Violet[/name] (all time favorites) despite popularity.

[name]Louisa[/name] [name]Delphine[/name] does sound nice. [name]How[/name] does [name]Prudence[/name] [name]Inez[/name] relate to the Beatles?

I love [name]Magnolia[/name] in theory, for all the same reasons, but I don’t like the sound/look of [name]Maggie[/name] very much, for some reason. I think because I don’t generally like the letter G too much.

[name]Louisa[/name] [name]Delphine[/name] does sound nice. [name]How[/name] does [name]Prudence[/name] [name]Inez[/name] relate to the Beatles?[/quote]
One of the songs on The White Album is named “Dear [name]Prudence[/name]”. It wasn’t the song itself that sparked my interest, until I actually considered naming one of my future children [name]Prudence[/name] I loved it. It is a very beautiful song though.

[name]Saskia[/name]- [name]Saskia[/name] is feminine, but not firlly, exotic but not over the top, and overall just a strong name. I could see it fitting myself actually, which hopefully means it will fit my daughter. It also ties into our [name]German[/name] heritage.

[name]Linnea[/name]- prn [name]Lin[/name]-ay-uh. She is soft, feminine, and even though it is a flower name it doesnt scream it. I love the Scientits connection (I’m a biologist) as well. The nn [name]Linny[/name] makes me smile.

[name]Bettina[/name]- This is growing on me more and more, so I just had to include it. I love the idea of the nn Bestey without using [name]Elizabeth[/name]. I think namberry describes it perfectly by saying its the ballerina form of [name]Betty[/name]. I like the feminine feel, but again I believe it is a name that can be taken seriously as an adult. It is also [name]German[/name] and honors family.

I love a lot of the names mentioned before like [name]Felicity[/name], [name]Violet[/name], [name]Magnolia[/name], [name]Matilda[/name].

In general, my taste is something that’s a bit more traditional or classic, something recognizable enough that (most) people will know how to spell it, and not so popular that every child in the class will be named that. Unfortunately, my favorite, [name]Charlotte[/name], is now gaining that seat. [name]Charlotte[/name] has been my favorite name for about 15 years before I ever heard anyone naming their daughter that. I like it because it’s English, a character in Pride and Prejudice (even if she was supposedly not pretty), I like the feminine -lotte ending, and for a while it wasn’t overwhelmingly popular.

Other than [name]Charlotte[/name], I like:

[name]Caroline[/name] - it fits a similar bill with [name]Charlotte[/name], royal name, English, but I like [name]Charlotte[/name] better because the “line” ending sounds harsh to me. [name]Carolina[/name] is better, but then it sounds like the state and if you do “lee-na” then it sounds Spanish and I’m not of Spanish descent.

[name]Norah[/name] - I like it because it’s an older name, reminds me of [name]Pete[/name]'s Dragon and [name]Norah[/name] [name]Jones[/name], and it seems to be a sleeper

[name]Abigail[/name] - my grandmother’s name and a classic, though sadly overused now

[name]Rosemary[/name] - just seems wholesome and classic and thankfully not too popular

[name]Georgia[/name] - southern, sweet, seems traditional, like that it’s after a painter

[name]Amelia[/name] - classic, strong name, reminds me of [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Earhart[/name], a strong woman, and [name]Amelie[/name], my favorite movie, simple and easy to spell, cute

I really like the name [name]Lillith[/name] nn [name]Lily[/name]. Its hard to make it a definate though because of the religious negativity toward the name.

Other contenders

[name]Mayme[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]

[name]Cordelia[/name] [name]Rain[/name] ([name]Rayne[/name]?)

[name]Winter[/name] [name]Isabella[/name]

[name]Ainsley[/name] [name]Rae[/name]

[name]Julia[/name] - is pretty, strong and traditional

[name]Louisa[/name] - both pretty and traditional (and [name]Louis[/name] is one of my fave boy names)

[name]Caroline[/name] - pretty, yet serious. Ages well.

[name]Helen[/name] or [name]Hellen[/name] - soft

[name]Jamison[/name] - strong, sounds pretty, not too common, and can balance out a frilly first name

[name]London[/name] - sounds pretty, not overly girly

[name]Vesta[/name] - rare, my great-grandmother’s name

Kimbro - variation on a family name. I like the sounds.

My Blog -

Fav girls name ever, since I was in the 8th grade, is [name]Grey[/name], short for [name]Greyson[/name]. I love it! I hate however that (a) it’s super popular and (b) boys are using it moreso than girls. I think it is SUCH a girly name especially with the sound of grace hidden in there.

If this one is a girl, she will be [name]Nina[/name], which I think is a sweet name that will age well.

Another name I’ve liked since the early 90s is [name]Catherine[/name]. I also like [name]Stella[/name]. [name]Both[/name] seem like they would age well.

[name]Hannah[/name] - I know, I know. It is over-used and incredibly popular, but it is also favorite great grandma’s family surname. It is a name that my ancestors carried from [name]Scotland[/name] in the mid 1700s. It is the name of the community where I grew up, but no longer live (named so because there are way too many people descended from those ancestors.) It is a name that I may never use because of the popularity and the overusage, but I still love it.

My new name crush for girl’s is [name]Cecilia[/name]/[name]Cecelia[/name] (not sure which spelling I like best, but I think I favor the classic with the i) with the nickname Cece.

[name]Eliza[/name]-this has been my favorite name since I was a little girl. My favorite movie was My Fair Lady and I would walk around the house talking in a Cockney accent (I’m from [name]Texas[/name], so it was quite the sight) when I was five or so. I love [name]Eliza[/name]'s spunk, the fact it can stand on it’s own, and it just has so many fun and strong namesakes from [name]Eliza[/name] Doolittle to [name]Eliza[/name] Thornberry to the adorable [name]Elia[/name] Lopes, a bridesmaid in [name]Will[/name] and [name]Kate[/name]'s wedding. Only con? It’s getting popular.

[name]Violet[/name]- like [name]Eliza[/name], I love [name]Violet[/name]'s vintage charm, it’s strong spunkiness, and the fact [name]Violet[/name] with the middle [name]Pearl[/name] would honor my [name]Alma[/name] mater, who’s colors are purple and white :). Cons: A starbaby name, and also getting popular.

[name]Pippa[/name]-oh I love [name]Pippa[/name]. It’s bouncy, unmistakably British, and classy. It could probably stand on it’s own, but I would probably put [name]Philippa[/name] on the birth cert. The meaning is lovely as well. Cons: [name]Pippa[/name] Middleton might make this popular, DH dislikes it, and our last name begins with P.

[name]Imogen[/name]- I adore [name]Imogen[/name]. Very British, uber classy, is a Shakespearean name, has the best meaning ever, and I really like the spunky nicknames Idgie and Immo. DH ADORES it!!! The cons: I think it sounds weird with [name]Eliza[/name] so would have to pick one or the other, and I’m worry people will think it’s too weird. But you know what? Eff them. [name]Imogen[/name] is perfection. It really is.

I have had an ongoing name list since I was a kid. This is my current girls list.

[name]Flora[/name]: It’s a family name on both mine and my husband’s side of the family. We have loved it ever since we realized that it’s a double family name. We plan on having family links in all of our childrens’ names. I just can’t seem to find a middle name for it that I can settle on. Right now I’m thinking [name]Flora[/name] [name]Adeline[/name].

[name]Hazel[/name]: This is a double family name as well. It’s pretty without being too frilly. I’ve never been a fan of overly frilly names. I have [name]Hazel[/name] [name]Louisa[/name] at the top of my list atm. [name]Louisa[/name] is a family name as well.

[name]August[/name]: I know this is typically a boy name, but everyone I’ve mentioned it to says it sounds girly. I’ve really come to love it as a girl name. [name]August[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] is my favorite combo for it. I have a grandpa named [name]Gus[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] is a big family name as well as my middle name.

[name]Darcy[/name]: I love the connection to Pride and Prejudice. When I was teaching dance I taught a little girl named [name]Darcy[/name] and she was so sweet. I’ve loved the name ever since. [name]Darcy[/name] AnnaKay is my combo for this one. My mother in-law’s middle name is [name]Ann[/name] and my mom’s middle name is [name]Kay[/name].

My favorite girls names:

[name]Cecily[/name] - Is sweet, a little frilly but also solid steel. I love nn’s [name]Celie[/name] & Cece and adore that it honors my favorite Grandmother.

[name]Penelope[/name] - [name]Just[/name] swoon over her galloping rhythm. She’s elegant, sweet, not frilly but simply lovely. Also love all her possible nicknames.

[name]Beatrix[/name] - Absolutely adore her feminine but not frilly vibe. [name]Love[/name] all of her possible nicknames too.

[name]Jemima[/name] - Another elegant & feminine name, not frilly. [name]Jemima[/name]'s satin, not lace. [name]Love[/name] her British feel and her nn potential too.

[name]Clementine[/name] - I love her feminine vibe: pretty, sweet & elegant. I like that she’s not too frilly. I love her nn potential too.

[name]Philippa[/name] - This one’s growing on me. The Mr. loves it, I’m learning to. [name]Pippa[/name]'s cute but [name]Pippi[/name] thrills me. (and [name]Philly[/name]'s adorable). [name]Pippa[/name] Middleton surely doesn’t hurt the name any! I am thinking the family surname: Philipps, could I say [name]Philippa[/name] honors that?

and: [name]Winifred[/name] - sweet, feminine but not frilly (my favorite sort of girl name), I love her nn possibilities and the fact that she honors the Aunt I adore.

I have quite a few girl’s names that are my favorite. I think that I have more boy favorites. Boy’s names are easier though.
Here’s my girls

[name]Sophia[/name] - My neighbor’s little girl is [name]Sophia[/name] [name]Marie[/name] and she has the prettiest smile!
[name]Francine[/name] - My little Niece’s name is [name]Francine[/name] and we call her Cici. The world revolves around her & she is the most darling little ballarina!
[name]Malia[/name] - I like this name ever since I saw that President [name]Obama[/name]'s daughter has this name. Hawiian for [name]Mary[/name].
[name]Philomina[/name] - My great aunt’s name. When I was little i couldn’t pronounce her name, so I called her [name]Mina[/name] and it stuck.
[name]Carly[/name] [name]James[/name] - A girl in my [name]Sunday[/name] School class has this name. I always thought it was so cool for a girl to have [name]James[/name] as a mn.
[name]Sarah[/name] - It’s always been one of my favorits. It just sounds very soft and flowy.
[name]Elizabeth[/name] - I love this name because it is so prim and proper but also has so many cute nn’s that I like. [name]Libby[/name], [name]Eliza[/name], [name]Beth[/name], [name]Liz[/name], [name]Lizzy[/name], [name]Betty[/name], [name]Ellie[/name], [name]Liza[/name], and I’m sure there’s more that are so cute!
[name]Chloe[/name] - I really love this one. A more modern name that has the cute “ie” sound that I love so much.
[name]Tessa[/name] - I love the sound of this one too. Plus it is a diminutive of [name]Therese[/name] which is such a beautiful classic name.

I have so many more but can’t think of them all right now.

Neally - a much prettier spelling of [name]Neely[/name]. It is a very simple, feminine sounding name.
