It’s a very sweet, southern name. Not evil in the least. Pronounced [name_f]Lore[/name_f]-uh-lie.
Thank you for your explanation
. This is how my husband was pronouncing it ([name_f]Lore[/name_f]-a-lie). I will ask other people how they pronounce it.
If you Google the pronunciation it’s the first one that comes up so I think that’s the most common.
I’ve never met a [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] in real life, but I’ve always said it my head [name_f]Lore[/name_f]-uh-lay. I don’t really have a preference between the two.
I think [name_u]Chauncey[/name_u] and [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] sound good together. No, of course it’s not vain! Good luck!
I loveeeee [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]. It’s one of my top girl names. I could see how it might sound kinda villain-ish but my initial thought is that’s it’s southern and sweet. It’s a beautiful name!
I LOVE [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] so much. It has my number one name for years. I’m really hoping it doesn’t get too popular! And I don’t think it sounds evil. And if you’re thinking of the [name_m]German[/name_m] myth I don’t think many people would think of that. [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] is gorgeous!
Lorelei is elegant and interesting. I like it
I love [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]! [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] would have been my daughters middle name. But I had a son.
I feel pretty neutrally on [name_f]Lorelai[/name_f], mostly because I grew up watching [name_m]Gilmore[/name_m] Girls and personally find it impossible to separate the name from that show.
Objectively it is a very pretty name, and gives me the same vibes as [name_f]Corine[/name_f] does. It also has a ton of nickname options in case you still feel that you don’t necessarily love the whole name ([name_f]Lola[/name_f], [name_u]Laurie[/name_u], [name_u]Rory[/name_u], [name_f]Elle[/name_f], [name_f]Lila[/name_f], etc)
I absolutely love [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]!! nn [name_f]Lore[/name_f], [name_f]Lorie[/name_f], Lei
I really like [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] and there are so many nn possibilities!
I think of flowers and [name_u]Hawaii[/name_u], specifically leis. I see a gentle breeze on a sunny day. Friends and family in a harmonious afternoon. Nothing but positive vibes.

I’ve never been to Hawai’i but this imagery that you shared is very beautiful.
Reading everyone’s comments has helped me see the name under a different light. It doesn’t have to be an evil name if I think about it as cheerful and sweet, as well as the name of Lorelei DeCora Means.
I watched some clips of Gilmore Girls, and it wasn’t my cup of tea. Most characters were kind of annoying, and the mom called Lorelei is particularly silly
. However, that doesn’t really impact my opinion of the name. Even if other people will bring it up, we can always just say that she was named for someone else.
She, like her brother, won’t have a middle name, so it helps that her first name would be memorable and melodic.
All I can think of is [name_m]Gilmore[/name_m] Girls!
I love [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]!

I love [name_f]Lorelai[/name_f], gorgeous name!!
Love [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]!
I too think of [name_u]Hawaii[/name_u] and tropical flowers, harmony and spring rain, violets and snowcones, beautiful pink, blue and purple colors, a sweet beauty and elegant, intelligent adult.
I have never seen [name_m]Gilmore[/name_m] Girls and would never make that connection, I also am not familiar with any evil connections. It’s a beautiful, sweet elegant name imo.
Also, don’t underestimate the fact that your husband is invested in it… it seems to me that most men are neutral or negative to most names, so when they come up with one that they like and has meaning to them??? That in itself is special.
I LOVE [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]! It is so charming, unique, and stunning. I would love to meet a little girl named [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]!
It’s been on my list for years.
I do understand what you mean when you say “evil,” just with its origins, but unless someone is familiar with the mythologies of [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f], I doubt anyone will have that association with the name. I think you will get more [name_m]Gilmore[/name_m] Girls and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes ([name_f]Marilyn[/name_f] [name_u]Monroe[/name_u]) associations that the name origin.
The only thing about [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] that would prevent me from using it is that I don’t like any nicknames associated with it. [name_f]Lori[/name_f], [name_f]Lola[/name_f], [name_f]Lolly[/name_f], [name_u]Rory[/name_u], etc, don’t really do it for me. But if you’re not too worried about that, I would say go for it!
Literally the day after I posted, I saw a little girl named Lorelai (-lye, not -lay). She was with a tiny baby sister and an older brother or maybe a twin brother. She was a maybe four or five and her brother was five or six. Anyways, they were running around and he kept calling, “Lorelai!” and it was SOOOO CUTE! It made my heart melt. It made me like the name 100% more.
I still think of Lorelei as -lay, but Lorelai as -lye. Btw “-lye / -lay” is me referring to the ending syllable.
I think Lola and Rory (Lola sounds more girly and Rory sounds like it could go either way) are adorable nicknames.
I dislike it. It sounds over the top and overly frilly to me. I love the more classic [name_f]Laura[/name_f].
I dont really like it.
I like the ‘lore’ beginning, but not really a fan of the rest.
Also, I knew the name [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] reminded me of something! Im not sure if anyone made the connection to ‘Toralei’, but its one of the Monster High dolls characters. They are quite different names though, so im sure its not likely to be a big deal. It’s just what jumps to mind when I hear [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]
