What's your one favorite girl name that you don't have the guts to use?

afton
tallulah
& hazel

[name]Emmanuelle[/name] - DH & I both love it, but no one says in correctly. They think it’s [name]Emanuel[/name] and a boys name. Ugh! Maybe for a mn.

[name]Esmeralda[/name] - DH hates it but I love the nn [name]Esme[/name]
[name]Ophelia[/name] - don’t like the ‘feel ya’ for teasing potential
[name]Sapphire[/name] - too like my DD’s nn and I’m told Australians think it’s bogan

I’m pretty brave though my DD’s are [name]Cordelia[/name] and [name]Persephone[/name]

Jayana. <3

[name]Boheme[/name] …sigh

Actually, the name [name]Hedwig[/name] has a really interesting history! “[name]King[/name]” [name]Hedwig[/name] of Poland was posthumously canonized, and she was a pious, strong pillar of support for the Polish-Lithuanian nation! She had a beautiful albeit tragic love story with her initial betrothed, [name]William[/name] of [name]Austria[/name]. According to legend, she tried to break into a church in order to secretly meet with him when their marriage was canceled. Of course, her name in Polish is [name]Jadwiga[/name], but it translates to [name]Hedwig[/name].

…in brief: [name]Hedwig[/name] is an absolutely adorable name with a great, strong history.

What a great thread! Good for inspiration, too!

My sons have crazy middle names, and I wanted the same for our daughter, but since her first name is unusual, we decided at the last minute to go traditional in the middle. Otherwise, her middle would have been Mayflower (she was also early, otherwise she would have been a [name]May[/name] baby). I also loved Sweetheart for the middle.

Also, for a first we considered [name]Cricket[/name], but I don’t know if I could ever go through with it.

And on the subject of [name]Hedwig[/name] - we wanted to use a family name for our daughter, but they were all terrible - and they included [name]Hedwig[/name]! It was my great aunt’s name and she DESPISED it. She always went by [name]Hedy[/name]. In fact, most of the women in my family hated their names, so we weren’t about to saddle someone else with the same one.

Maybelline…

I thought of a couple more. I remember reading this name on a blog and for some reason can never get it out of my head, I think it is so adorable, even though many might think it’s going a bit to far. The little girl’s name was…Whisper [name]Rose[/name]. I just adore the name Whisper. What do you think about it? I have read where others have named their child [name]Echo[/name]/[name]Ecko[/name], or [name]Silence[/name] so why not Whisper?

Others:

Atreyu: [name]Remember[/name] the book/movie?
[name]Nuria[/name]
[name]Icie[/name]
Peppermint: sounds so fresh. ;p
Beauty

[name]Guinevere[/name]. I think it has the most beautiful sound, but it’s just too much name!

I love [name]Sydney[/name], nn [name]Syd[/name], but it’s also my home town, so it would just be weird to use it.

[name]Madeline[/name]. I would use it but there are too many strikes against it. Most people would pronounce it with the -lyn ending and I love the -line ending. In the top 1000 there are 8 different spellings used for different versions of the name. I don’t like the nickname Madi because it makes me think of [name]Madison[/name] which is one of my most disliked names.

Here’s my list

[name]Azure[/name]
[name]Delphi[/name]
Eirlys
[name]Tamsin[/name]
[name]Artemis[/name]
[name]Signe[/name]

I love Aquifer for the sound and the imagery, but I’ve never received even the slightest interest back from anyone on the idea.

[name]Ethel[/name]. I like the name love the meaning, but I cannot in good conscience give that name to my kid, I don’t know if she’d be able to pull it off.

[name]Laura[/name]. Beautiful, classic, elegant [name]Laura[/name]. But if I added ANOTHER [name]Laura[/name] (family tradition, all first born girls named [name]Laura[/name], my mom broke it with me…) to the family, my mother might disown me… haha.

[name]Midori[/name] - love the sound but could never bring myself to name a child after an alcoholic drink :frowning:

Also:
[name]Adelaide[/name] (too weird because I used to live there)
[name]Zenobia[/name]
[name]Araminta[/name]
[name]Arethusa[/name]
Tamrissa
[name]Rhapsody[/name]
[name]Cinnamon[/name]

[name]Satyana[/name] :frowning: I loved it so much but bf vetoed it.

[name]Dexter[/name]/[name]Xavier[/name]- I know I’m horrible for loving these for girls.
