Hi everyone! Wishing you all the absolute best in 2024!
I’ve been thinking about several names with -ie or -y endings recently. All of them are names I can see myself potentially using one day. The problem is that I love them all and am struggling to choose my favorite. These are all names I’ve talked about here before, so I don’t think there will be any surprises! If you don’t mind, could you help me out by letting me know what your favorite name is and why you like it?
I also love Sophie, but that one is out because my dog’s name is Sadie.
I’ve also recently fallen in love with the name Eve as a middle name! Which of these do you think is the best fit with it? (Wouldn’t use it if Evie is the first name!) Do you have other favorite names with these endings (or that you feel are at least similar) that I should add to my list?
Any feedback or suggestions you could offer would be greatly appreciated!
Absolutely gorgeous! I really like all of these. I think my top three are [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], and [name_u]Frankie[/name_u]. For a top five, I’d add [name_f]Evie[/name_f] and [name_f]Lily[/name_f].
I think [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] is my favorite combo, [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] at second place. [name_f]Eve[/name_f] is such a gorgeous name. I feel like the middle name [name_u]Love[/name_u] would fit really nicely with a lot of these names, too, in a similar vein!
@snowmaiden Thank you so much! [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] is a name I have always loved. And I adore the combination of [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f]. [name_f]Evie[/name_f] as a first name just makes me very happy! [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] is just so sweet! And I love Frankie’s spunk.
[name_u]Love[/name_u] would be such a fun middle name!
@Kipperbo1 Thank you so much! I’ve been thinking hard about [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] and [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] and I really love them both! I know these names are becoming more popular, but feel that they still have the perfect amount of uniqueness without being too out there.
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and [name_u]Josie[/name_u] feel less overused than the rest and that’s important for me. If using either I’d probably go with a longer form of an [name_f]Eve[/name_f] name like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] or [name_u]Josie[/name_u] [name_f]Evelina[/name_f].
I’d probably do [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] or [name_f]Josette[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] to feel more balanced. Of yours, I’d probably do [name_f]Molly[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f].
[name_u]Josie[/name_u] is my favorite from your list, cute and spunky! I love all the spellings just the way you have them listed. Some of my favorite names with these endings:
[name_f]Emmie[/name_f]
[name_f]Millie[/name_f]
[name_f]Maisy[/name_f]
[name_f]Tillie[/name_f]
[name_f]Iley[/name_f]
[name_f]Libby[/name_f]
[name_f]Averie[/name_f]
[name_f]Andie[/name_f]
I think my top favorite is [name_f]Evie[/name_f], its cute but a little edgy and witchy too which balances it (and I can’t personally use it so I get really excited about it for other people). I also love [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and [name_u]Josie[/name_u] and really like [name_f]Molly[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], and [name_f]Gracie[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Molly[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] sounds the best.
[name_f]Edit[/name_f]: forgot to add my suggestions!
[name_f]Annie[/name_f]
[name_u]Holly[/name_u]
[name_u]Ivy[/name_u]
[name_u]Marie[/name_u]
[name_u]Darcy[/name_u]
[name_f]Carrie[/name_f]
[name_f]Wendy[/name_f]
[name_f]Katie[/name_f]
[name_f]Nancy[/name_f]
[name_f]Jenny[/name_f]
[name_u]Josie[/name_u] is def my fave from your list, was on my own lists when naming my kids. But I also adore [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] and [name_f]Molly[/name_f].
To go with [name_f]Eve[/name_f] though I think [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] is def the best combo.
[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite overall is [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]! It’s light, bright and sweet, but also strong, independent and effortless, literary and versatile!
[name_f]My[/name_f] runners up would be: [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] (sparky, cool and lovely) and [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] (sweet, cool and warm)!
I think [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] [name_f]Eve[/name_f], [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] or [name_u]Josie[/name_u] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] flow best with [name_f]Eve[/name_f] as a middle - the -ank, [name_f]Aud[/name_f]- and [name_m]Jos[/name_m]- sounds are strong enough that the -ee Ee- sounds don’t blur together.
I absolutely adore [name_f]Gracie[/name_f]! I’d probably use her as a nickname for [name_f]Grace[/name_f], but I think she stands perfectly well on her own as well; so bright and elegant. I also have a very soft spot for [name_f]Lily[/name_f] - I know she’s incredibly popular, but lilies are such beautiful flowers and it’s such a simple, dainty name! The other one I like is the sweet ‘Anne of [name_u]Green[/name_u] Gables’ vibe of [name_u]Josie[/name_u]; I enjoy [name_u]Frankie[/name_u], but definitely only short for [name_f]Francesca[/name_f].
I have to say I’m not a fan of [name_f]Eve[/name_f] with any of these - the long ‘e’ sound just blends into each other. If I had to chose, I’d go for [name_u]Josie[/name_u] [name_f]Eve[/name_f].
@cms1512 Thank you so much! I agree that [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and [name_u]Josie[/name_u] aren’t as common, even though [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] seems to be pretty popular here on Nameberry. I know an adult [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] who is probably in her mid-60’s, but I’ve never met a child with the name. Both [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and [name_u]Josie[/name_u] feel so joyful to me.
I really like the idea of using of [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], and my favorite of your suggestions is probably [name_u]Ivy[/name_u]!
@sammaegre Thank you so much! I’m sorry that [name_f]Evie[/name_f] is unusable for you, but love that you get excited when others consider it. I love all your choices from the list, and agree that [name_f]Molly[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] has very good flow.
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorites of your suggestions are:
@Kiriko Thank you so much! I absolutely love [name_u]Josie[/name_u], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], and [name_f]Molly[/name_f]. The first [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] I ever met was an adult who is probably in her 50’s at this point, and I absolutely loved her. I’ve met/known of a couple other Ellies, but it wouldn’t deter me from using it.
I’ve always loved [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and hoped I’d be able to use it one day! I agree that [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] has the best flow.
[name_f]Molly[/name_f] & [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] after my favorites from your list. But I love [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] even more, which you said you can’t use because your dog’s name is [name_f]Sadie[/name_f]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you mind if I assert my opinion that those names are not too alike to use together?
@Greyblue Thank you so much! I absolutely agree with your thoughts on [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_u]Frankie[/name_u], and [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]. I think they are all so bright and spunky in different ways. And I appreciate that I don’t personally know any children named [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] (or anyone named [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] or [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] at all.) I would really love to know girls or women with these names! I also appreciate your point about the strong sounds in [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], [name_u]Josie[/name_u], and [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] working well with [name_f]Eve[/name_f] as a middle name. That is something I hadn’t considered, so thank you! For what it’s worth, I also love the idea of using [name_f]Eve[/name_f] as the first name, but struggle to find a middle name that works well since it’s only one syllable. I’ve thought of:
I don’t know that I would use [name_f]Eve[/name_f] as a first name as opposed to a middle or just going straight to [name_f]Evie[/name_f], but the thought of it makes me happy!
From your suggestions, my favorites are:
[name_f]Lottie[/name_f] (I also love Charlotte!)
[name_f]Rosie[/name_f] +
[name_f]Maisy[/name_f]
@Mary_Rose Thank you so much! I absolutely love both [name_f]Grace[/name_f] and [name_f]Gracie[/name_f]! I know a [name_f]Grace[/name_f], and to my knowledge, her parents have never called her [name_f]Gracie[/name_f], but she makes me love her name so much!
I love [name_f]Lily[/name_f]! Popularity doesn’t bother me too much as long as I don’t personally know someone in close proximity to me with the name. Meaning I wouldn’t use one if we are close enough friends to be in touch frequently. I have a few names that are unfortunately off my list for those reasons. But I might use the same name as an acquaintance has or used themselves if I thought they wouldn’t mind and it wouldn’t be too awkward. I think that just depends on the name and the situation for me. I would not do that if it wasn’t a name that was in my top favorites, meaning that I would have to absolutely love it.
I love [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] too! But I’m not Italian at all or a native Spanish speaker. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think that is a problem when considering [name_f]Francesca[/name_f]? If I had do choose a more formal name for [name_u]Frankie[/name_u], that would definitely be it!
And I absolutely get what you mean about many of these names running together when paired with [name_f]Eve[/name_f]. I think that’s why I was a little hesitant about it at first.
@somemelodioussonnet Thank you so much! No I don’t mind at all! I have thought about how there are several letters in the names that are different. I’m just not sure if a toddler or my dog would be confused by the similarities of the beginning and end. I think I do love [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] enough to potentially use it anyway. I also love [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], so that’s a way to decrease or even eliminate any confusion.
I really love [name_f]Molly[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] too! [name_f]My[/name_f] closest friend has cousins with those names! (They are sisters.) I’ve never met them though. If I had, I bet I’d love them even more. Plus, Moly is special because it is an honor for my mom and grandma. [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] is fun because my parents considered the name [name_f]Nora[/name_f] for me, which has the same meaning as [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]. They went with something else that’s classic for me, but I’ve always loved [name_f]Nora[/name_f]. I’m not able to use it though because a friend chose a very similar name for one of her twin girls. We talk all the time, and she worked hard to choose her gurls’ names, so I’m not comfortable using it. But it’s always fun to talk about how much I love it and find names that are a similar style.
Out of curiosity, if you were to creat me a sibling set using, [name_f]Molly[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], or Sophie/Sophia, which ones would you choose? I feel like it’s so hard because I love all these names!
Thank you again for your help and for letting me ramble!
[name_f]My[/name_f] cousin is a [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and she’s very cool
I love [name_f]Eve[/name_f] as a full name - I’ve met very few just Eves!
I like [name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] and [name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]!
[name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] is my [name_f]Eve[/name_f] combo, but I’d also throw in the suggestions of:
