I see with the [name]West[/name] and [name]Wilder[/name] being too play-on-words… [name]Wilder[/name] is number 1 on our list if this LO had been a boy! (stashed in my back pocket for the next ones, [name]Lord[/name]-willing!)

I like [name]Rafferty[/name] and [name]Hawthorne[/name] both! [name]Rafferty[/name] is spunky and fun and [name]Hawthorne[/name] is more sophisticated with cool nn potential too.

What about…

[name]Lincoln[/name] [name]Knox[/name] [name]Polk[/name]
[name]Bronte[/name] [name]Knox[/name] [name]Polk[/name]
[name]Rockwell[/name] [name]Knox[/name] [name]Polk[/name]
[name]Cassius[/name] [name]Knox[/name] [name]Polk[/name]
[name]Ramsey[/name] [name]Knox[/name] [name]Polk[/name]

[name]Happy[/name] naming!!

I love [name]Hawthorne[/name]/[name]Hawk[/name]! [name]How[/name] about- [name]Cormac[/name], [name]August[/name], [name]Wyatt[/name], [name]Warner[/name] or [name]Beckett[/name]?

From your list, I think [name]Hawthorne[/name] and [name]Rafferty[/name] fit your criteria. Here are some other suggestions.

[name]Bramwell[/name] [name]Knox[/name] [name]Polk[/name]
[name]Abram[/name] [name]Knox[/name] [name]Polk[/name]
[name]Sterling[/name] [name]Knox[/name] [name]Polk[/name]
Dacre [name]Knox[/name] [name]Polk[/name]
[name]Granger[/name] [name]Knox[/name] [name]Polk[/name]
[name]Cedric[/name] [name]Knox[/name] [name]Polk[/name]
[name]Donovan[/name] [name]Knox[/name] [name]Polk[/name]
[name]Bardolph[/name] [name]Knox[/name] [name]Polk[/name]
[name]Conrad[/name] [name]Knox[/name] [name]Polk[/name]
[name]Cyrus[/name] [name]Knox[/name] [name]Polk[/name]
[name]Eben[/name] [name]Knox[/name] [name]Polk[/name]
[name]Arkady[/name] [name]Knox[/name] [name]Polk[/name]
[name]Lysander[/name] [name]Knox[/name] [name]Polk[/name]
[name]Gideon[/name] [name]Knox[/name] [name]Polk[/name]
[name]Cormac[/name] [name]Knox[/name] [name]Polk[/name]
[name]Rhodri[/name] [name]Knox[/name] [name]Polk[/name]
[name]Abel[/name] [name]Knox[/name] [name]Polk[/name]
[name]Ulysses[/name] [name]Knox[/name] [name]Polk[/name]
[name]Ishmael[/name] [name]Knox[/name] [name]Polk[/name]
Aidric [name]Knox[/name] [name]Polk[/name]
[name]Caedmon[/name] [name]Knox[/name] [name]Polk[/name]
Somerled [name]Knox[/name] [name]Polk[/name]
[name]Darius[/name] [name]Knox[/name] [name]Polk[/name]

I really like [name]Hawthorne[/name], [name]Caspar[/name], and [name]Rafferty[/name]. Some of the other R- names I find a little difficult to say with [name]West[/name] ([name]West[/name] and [name]Rigby[/name] sort of makes me want to say Rest and Wigby, haha). I think [name]Jocelyn[/name] is pretty decidedly a girl’s name now, and I don’t really care for Marcomir (esp. since you already have one unusual M- name that you use and another M- name that you don’t). I liked the suggestion of [name]Cassius[/name]!

With [name]West[/name] and Mazarine, I’d say:
[name]Cabot[/name]/Cabott/[name]Cabbott[/name] [name]Knox[/name] [name]Polk[/name] ([name]Bo[/name]/[name]Beau[/name], [name]Cab[/name], [name]Abe[/name])
[name]Julian[/name] [name]Knox[/name] [name]Polk[/name] ([name]Jules[/name], [name]Lee[/name], [name]Jax[/name] (thanks to [name]Knox[/name]))
[name]Solomon[/name] [name]Knox[/name] [name]Polk[/name] ([name]Sol[/name], [name]Sully[/name])
[name]Lionel[/name] [name]Knox[/name] [name]Polk[/name] ([name]Lion[/name], [name]Eli[/name])
[name]Everett[/name] [name]Knox[/name] [name]Polk[/name] ([name]Ever[/name], [name]Rhett[/name], Rev, [name]Rex[/name] (with [name]Knox[/name]))
[name]Barnaby[/name] [name]Knox[/name] [name]Polk[/name] ([name]Barnes[/name], [name]Abe[/name])
[name]Fitzwilliam[/name] [name]Knox[/name] [name]Polk[/name] (leaves room for [name]Wills[/name] if you want it, but [name]Fitz[/name], [name]Fritz[/name], [name]Liam[/name], [name]Fox[/name] work, too)
[name]Tristam[/name] [name]Knox[/name] [name]Polk[/name]

I adore [name]Rafferty[/name] and [name]Hawthorne[/name]!

On your two questions, I think you’re right to be concerned about [name]Rafe[/name] running together with an F last name – not that [name]Ray[/name] is a bad name, but I do imagine some confusion around that, especially if he wants to call himself [name]Rafe[/name] or Raf. You’d have to make a very deliberate stop between the first name and the last.

I do think [name]Rhett[/name] and [name]West[/name] are similar enough that you should keep looking.

On to some other possibilities.

I am struck here by the fine line between “rough and tumble” and pretty dang girly. [name]Cedric[/name] and [name]Lysander[/name] and [name]Bronte[/name] may have their virtues as names, but they certainly aren’t macho. Neither is [name]Willoughby[/name], for that matter, at least in my opinion. And jocelyn: Surely you jest.

Onward. [name]Love[/name] [name]Cassius[/name] – though [name]Cass[/name]? Yep, kinda girly. [name]How[/name] about [name]Cassian[/name] instead of [name]Caspar[/name]?

Other ideas:

[name]Amos[/name] (love [name]Abel[/name] too)
[name]Winston[/name] or [name]Winslow[/name] nn [name]Win[/name]
[name]Otis[/name] (I know I’m getting kind of outrageous here, but I think you can take it)
[name]Zebedee[/name] nn [name]Zeb[/name]
[name]Lander[/name] nn [name]Land[/name]

[name]Hawthorne[/name] nn [name]Hawk[/name] is pretty hard to beat. You could also call him [name]Thorn[/name]!

I remember when you were naming Mazarine – love that name! And didn’t realize [name]Willoughby[/name] was your maiden name: That changes everything! Could you call him [name]Obie[/name]? (mind, I’m not sure how I feel about this) Or [name]Wylie[/name]??

Yeah, my husband nixed [name]Otis[/name] too. And [name]Omar[/name].

I actually like [name]Cassius[/name] better than [name]Cassian[/name] too – more character.

It would be fun to stage a British-American baby name knockdown.

[name]Willoughby[/name] nn [name]Beau[/name] (a stretch perhaps but I love both!)

[name]Hawthorne[/name] nn [name]Hawk[/name] is great

Other ideas-

[name]Anderson[/name] nn [name]Anders[/name]
[name]Augustus[/name] nn [name]Gus[/name]
[name]Barnaby[/name] nn [name]Barnes[/name] or [name]Beau[/name]
[name]Calder[/name] nn [name]Cal[/name]
[name]Fletcher[/name] [name]Knox[/name] nn [name]Fox[/name]
[name]Harrison[/name] nn [name]Hayes[/name]
[name]Rafferty[/name] nn [name]Rye[/name]

Back to the drawing board I see. Lets see if I can be of any help!

Out of your first list up there, I definitely (obviously) love [name]Rigby[/name] - but my next favorite definitely has to be [name]Hawthorne[/name]. I remember you talking about him a while back here on a different post and he was always a standout to me. [name]Hawthorn[/name] [name]Knox[/name] [name]Polk[/name] is one of the most handsome names I have ever heard. Also adore the nickname [name]Hawk[/name] - and how cool that it actually makes sense the the K at the end coming from [name]Knox[/name]! Bonus points!

Next fave would definitely have to be Marcomir nn [name]Major[/name], but also because I remember you talking about him and that nickname is just SO COOL. I also really like the name [name]Marc[/name], and if Marcomir ever ends up not loving the nn [name]Major[/name], or does not want to be called by his full name, [name]Marc[/name] is always a safe bet! My only doubt with this name (a doubt that is very odd and hard to explain) but, Marcomir kind of reminds me of a vampire. (Oh no what am i getting myself into?!). Oh maybe I can explain, reminds me a bit of [name]Vladimir[/name] sharing the same ending, which always seems like a bat turning vampire name to me. Maybe Marcomir can be more on the [name]Edward[/name] [name]Cullen[/name] side of vamp though. Haha - don’t hate me for saying that!

As for [name]Rafferty[/name], nah, he doesn’t work with your last name.

As for [name]Huckleberry[/name], I love where you’re going with this, but only the [name]Huck[/name] part of the name! I adore this nickname. Like seriously. He is commonly used as a nickname for [name]Henry[/name], who is probably too common for you. Would you use [name]Harry[/name] nn [name]Huck[/name]? He is definitely british. [name]West[/name], Maz & [name]Huck[/name] is kind of amazing. Hmmm, but I guess [name]Huck[/name] is really common to [name]Hawk[/name]. And if I would have to choose between the two I would definitely pick [name]Hawk[/name] ([name]Hawthorne[/name]).

Also, how cool is it that someone else brought up [name]Bronte[/name]? I love [name]Bronte[/name] for you, but as I previously mentioned, as a girls name. Mazarine and [name]Bronte[/name] seem like such the perfect sister combination to me its crazy. Maz & [name]Bo[/name] maybe? Mazarine & [name]Bronte[/name] seem like sisters out of a Renaissance period piece. [name]Love[/name] love love!

This is turning out to be an essay, but here are a few suggestions (sorry for repeats):
[name]Evander[/name] nn Ev, [name]Van[/name], [name]Vander[/name], [name]Ander[/name], [name]Evie[/name]
St.[name]John[/name] (pn. [name]Sinjin[/name]) - VERY british - don’t know how well it would go over in the states/[name]Canada[/name] though.
[name]Carlisle[/name] (too twilight?)
[name]Angus[/name] (too beef?)
[name]Hugh[/name] Willoughy [name]Knox[/name]
Lockhart (…feminine though in meaning)
[name]Hubert[/name] (love the nn [name]Hubie[/name])
[name]Montgomery[/name] nn [name]Monty[/name]
[name]Albert[/name] nn [name]Bertie[/name]
[name]Frederick[/name] nn [name]Freddie[/name], [name]Red[/name], [name]Ricky[/name]
[name]Christopher[/name] nn [name]Topher[/name]

Also just thought, nickname for [name]Willoughby[/name]. [name]Billy[/name]! Also, I think a cool girls option for you would be [name]Primrose[/name]. Nicknames Prim or [name]Rose[/name] are lovely, but the kicker, [name]Posy[/name]!!!

ps: most above suggestions inspired by looking at the Telegraph birth announcements. Have some fun looking around there and see what else you come up with!

xoxoxox [name]Viv[/name]

  1. I definitely do not think it would be too much like [name]Ray[/name] F. I think it’d be noticed on it’s own!

  2. [name]Rhett[/name]… hmm that’s a hard one. I think I’ve heard Leverett, which “[name]Lev[/name]” is a really cool nn as well as “rhett”.

[name]How[/name] about [name]Hemingway[/name]?

I wonder if you might like [name]Caspian[/name] instead of [name]Casper[/name], [name]Huxley[/name] instead of [name]Huckleberry[/name].

Coming back to this thread to say that I’m glad you are not letting go of [name]Rafferty[/name]! It is pretty stand-out and just exudes a vibrant personality to me.

[name]Hawthorne[/name] is just to die for too. I mean, really.

[name]Huck[/name] is cute too, will your husband go for huck by itself (as nn from other name than huckleberry)? Then maybe you could try to find a more formal name that the nn can tag along off of like @saracita00 mentioned, huxley or huxton. They don’t quite hold candles to the 2 above though [name]IMO[/name]!

Another “H” name similar to [name]Huck[/name] is “Hutch”… I have heard of 1 person considering naming their baby boy [name]Hutchinson[/name], nn Hutch.

What about [name]Casimir[/name] instead of [name]Caspian[/name]/[name]Cassius[/name]? [name]Love[/name] it.
[name]Love[/name] [name]Hawthorne[/name] and [name]Rafferty[/name] off your early list. I would call [name]Rafferty[/name] Raffa, if I had a F surname.
[name]Hawk[/name] or [name]Thorn[/name] is brilliant.
