Winter Names ❄

A little early, but I’m starting to think of my new collection of names for the [name_u]Winter[/name_u] season!! I do have about 20 or so already finalized, but am always looking for more! Any recommendations?
To me, [name_u]Winter[/name_u] names are names that conjure up the image of snow, [name_u]Christmas[/name_u], cold, crispness, dark pine trees, etc…I’m looking for names that, give you a Wintery feel, are connected to some [name_u]Winter[/name_u] Literature (this can be literature that literally takes place in [name_u]Winter[/name_u] or that you personally associate with the [name_u]Winter[/name_u] season,) have a Wintery meaning, whatever.

Bonus criteria. Categories that I tend to associate with [name_u]Winter[/name_u] names:

  • Elvish names

  • Occasionally Welsh names

  • Slavic names

  • Names with the letters V, I, W, O, E, and S.

The names that tend to give me more wintery/cozy feels tend to be Slavic/Scandinavian names, just because they’re from cold weather places.

Right now I only have two for boys, but several more for girls.

[name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] - The name of good old [name_f]Santa[/name_f] himself. I personally don’t believe in [name_f]Santa[/name_f], but the association is enough to make me think of winter and [name_u]Christmas[/name_u].

Alexander/Aleksander - This name gives me strong, cold, fighting through vibes. I mean, the meaning kind of gives it away, but it does give me winter vibes for some reason.

Natalya/Natasha - Yes, it has the Christmassy meaning, but it gives me those strong wintery vibes as well. Think wind, clouds, snow, ice skating, sledding, things like that. I actually have story character siblings named [name_m]Aleksander[/name_m], [name_f]Natalya[/name_f], and Lena; I think that’s an awesome winter vibey sibset.

[name_f]Valentina[/name_f] - It’s usually more associated with Valentine’s day, but it gives me lovely winter vibes, like fir trees, pine cones, and [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] presents.

[name_f]Elsa[/name_f] - Of course it’s the name of a snow queen, but very wintery vibes. When I first heard the name, I though it meant “snow” or something like that. [name_m]Even[/name_m] without the ‘Frozen’ movie, it feels snowy and icey.

Ivy/Holly - The names of [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] plants. Such a warm, cozy, feeling.

Veronica/Veronika - It gives me clear icicles, beautiful snowy mountains, skiing, and hot chocolate vibes.

Dinara - Russian name meaning treasure. That’s such an awesome meaning, and it feels very wintery in style.

@CattheBat13579 -Thanks for taking the time to “sell” each name to me, I appreciate it! I already have Nikolaus and Oleksandr on my list, but Holly and Natasha are perfect-long time likes that I for some reason hadn’t thought of. Thank you!!

@EagleEyes- I have Dimitri, Gabriel, Hans, and Ingrid on my list already but there are so many gems on your list! I love Hanneli, Esther, Vlada, Melchior, Doveva, Ilse, and Mattie!

@marysia -Vasilisa is gorgeous-she’s for sure going on the list. I also like Svetlana Vasliy, and Yvain!

@Greyblue- Ooh, Viveca, Neve, Sylvan, and Pax are perfect. Lucy is one that I’ve been debating, but you’re right, she does feel wintery.

@heartwings -Oh my gosh, I LOVE Ekaterina! I’ve always wanted an honour for Katerina (a lovely name, but for some reason I’ve never really liked it) and this is perfect! Kitty is also one of my fav nicknames, but I only like Catherine with a C and don’t like K names, so I’ve always felt Kitty was out of reach. Ekaterina nn Kitty hits that nail on the head. Thank you so much!! (Also love Nikolai btw, he’s also on he list.)
