You get an Elvish name. YOU get an Elvish name. You all get Elvish names!

This is beautiful.

Could you please do either [name_u]Declan[/name_u], [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], or [name_m]Evander[/name_m]? :purple_heart:

Eliza? This seems so interesting!

Could you do [name_f]Christine[/name_f]? I’m sorry that the meaning probably doesn’t lend well to a translation!

Could you please do [name_u]Kerrigan[/name_u]? I knew a [name_u]Kerrigan[/name_u] in middle school who once sent me her name in Elvish not knowing what it was at the time!

@katinka
Very close to Alatári! Going off the ‘queen of heaven’ meaning for [name_f]Juno[/name_f], it would be -

elen noun. star
tári noun. queen, used especially of [name_f]Varda[/name_f]

Elentári - ell-ehn-tah-ree - Quenya - ‘star-queen’ :sparkles: which was actually a title of [name_f]Varda[/name_f], a [name_f]Juno[/name_f]-esque [name_f]Queen[/name_f] of Heavens in the story.

[name_u]Endellion[/name_u]'s meaning seems hard to track down, but I’m gonna go with ‘fire soul’ because that’s amazing!

úr noun. fire
fëa noun. spirit, soul

Úrfëa - ur-fey-ah - Quenya - ‘fire spirit’ :fire:

I love these! Thanks so much @alatari. Yes, [name_u]Endellion[/name_u]’s meaning is a bit of a mystery but I love the “fire soul” one so I’m blindly sticking with that :fire:

Elentári and Úrfëa are gorgeous!

Sarai is an interesting one! Since it just means ‘princess’ but the word ‘ríel’ in Sindarin (princess) is always a suffix on the end of a name. I’ve never seen it stand alone. Additionally, it sometimes just means ‘daughter’ or ‘maiden’.

So to fill the prefix spot, I’m going to establish that she’s a royal daughter/maiden.

ar- pref. noble, high, royal
ríel name. princess

Aríel - ah-ree-ehl - Sindarin - ‘royal princess’ :crown:

[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] [name_f]Nadia[/name_f] is such an elegant combo with such a beautiful meaning - ‘life, hope’ :white_heart:

Because the -enne ending of [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] makes it strictly feminine, I’ve added -wen as a suffix onto the first name, which means ‘maiden’. [name_f]Estel[/name_f] as a name can stand alone (it’s [name_m]Aragorn[/name_m]’s Elvish name!)

cuil, cuin name. life
wen - suffix. girl, virgin, maiden
estel name. faith, hope, trust

Cuinwen [name_f]Estel[/name_f] - coo-een-wen es-tell - Sindarin - ‘lively maiden of hope’ :seedling:

Sadly I can’t make it work with the lovely Arabic meaning of [name_f]Nadia[/name_f] (‘tender, delicate’) because there are no words in Sindarin for tender or delicate :sob:

Not self-centred at all! Let’s find your Elvish name!

I found it quite tricky to get this one within the grammatical rules for making Elvish names. I went through some different words, before settling on “blessing” instead of “grace/favour”… and I used “grassland” because there is no word for meadow.

I did the name in both Quenya and Sindarin!

galu name. blessed, good fortune
parth noun. grassland
-il suffix. female

Galuvathil - gah-loo-vuh-theel - Sindarin - ‘lady of the blessed grassland’ :seedling:

almarë noun blessedness, good fortune

[name_f]Louisa[/name_f], coming right up!

I’m finding her meaning as “renowned warrior”. There is no word for renown or fame in Sindarin, but I can find something similar!

ara- pref. noble, high, royal
maethor name. warrior
-el suffix. female, woman

Arvaethel - ahr-va-ee-thell - Sindarin - ‘noble warrior woman’ :crossed_swords:

I thought the pronunciation for this was a bit tricky so here’s a voice recording

[name_f]Queen[/name_f] of the Fairies  :fairy:

Fairies barely feature in the Tolkien universe, except in his very early work as a name the Hobbits used to describe Elves. The word “fae” is also an old Sindarin word meaning “soul, spirit”.

So we could go one of three ways with [name_f]Tatiana[/name_f].

elen name. elf
bereth name. queen, spouse

Elbereth - ell-beh-reth - Sindarin - ‘[name_f]Queen[/name_f] of the Elves’
(coincidentally, this is the Sindarin name for the goddess [name_f]Varda[/name_f], as Elbereth can also be translated to ‘[name_f]Queen[/name_f] of the Stars’, as ‘el’ is a prefix meaning ‘star’. Some characters use this as an exclamation or prayer - “O, Elbereth!” = “Oh, mother!”)

Elbereth in Tengwar:

The word rîs means [name_f]Queen[/name_f] more independent of a [name_m]King[/name_m], because unlike ‘bereth’ it doesn’t also carry the meaning ‘spouse’. So this version of the name is more weighty.

elen name. elf
rîs name. queen, crowned
ríel suffix. princess, daughter of

Elenríel - eh-len-ree-ehl - Sindarin - ‘[name_f]Queen[/name_f] of the Elves’ :crown:

A less literal version that uses the Elvish word, ‘fae’ to create the english ‘faerie’ within the name! (though fae in Elvish is pronounced more like fai)

fae name. soul, spirit
rîs name queen, crowned
ríel suffix. princess, daughter of

Faeríel - fai-ree-ehl - Sindarin - ‘[name_f]Queen[/name_f] of Souls’ :white_heart:

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! It might be a little much for me :sweat_smile::joy: But I will give T.iffany A.nn and C.aspian K.aveh a go!

T.iffany means “manifestation of God” and A.nn means “favour, grace”.

God in Tolkien’s Universe is called Eru Ilúvatar, the One, Father of All.

eru name. “the One” (name of God)
thia- vb. appear, seem
-el suffix. female, woman

galu name. good fortune, blessing
-wen suffix. maiden

Eruthíel Galwen - eh-roo-thee-ehl gall-wehn - Sindarin - ‘Appearance of God, [name_u]Blessed[/name_u] Maiden’ :yellow_heart:

C.aspian is my favourite boy’s name of all time and yet I don’t know what it really means! In tracing down the meaning, beyond ‘sea’ or ‘[name_m]Caspian[/name_m] people’, I found the Greek word Κάσπιοι (Kaspioi) which was based on the [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] peoples’ own word for themselves. But that is as far as I can go, because Kaspioi has no possible cognates (origin words) in Old Iranian, which is what the [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] People would have spoken. :sob:

So I’m gonna be lazy and say it means “by the sea”.
For K.aveh I will go with your possible meaning of “royal”, as that’s what I can find online too!

aer name. sea
falas name. beach, shore, coast, strand, line of surf, foaming shore

ara- pref. noble, high, royal
ernil name. prince

Arfalas Arníl - ar-fuh-lass ar-neel - Sindarin - ‘[name_m]Prince[/name_m] of the Foaming [name_u]Shore[/name_u]’

Could you do my name, [name_f]Saoirse[/name_f] J3@n, and my favorite boy combo, [name_m]Vance[/name_m] [name_m]Peter[/name_m]?

I already know Lothíriel ([name_f]Flora[/name_f]) & Faeron ([name_m]Hugo[/name_m]), but if you have a different opinion about these I would love to know, but couldn’t find any information for [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] and [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] (as fatherland/heritage or wealth fortune, though the latter would be quite close to Edgar I presume) so I would love to see what you think they would sound and look like.

I would love to know about my name [name_f]Vasiliki[/name_f].
