I love the meaning “wild helper” and the hope that my daughter will always be searching for ways to help, but never taming herself or allowing herself to be exploited for her kindness. I love that if she’s masculine (like her mommies) or he ends up being a boy, [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] is already built in as a more androgynous moniker. And because our last name starts with an L, her initials would be OWL. I love the idea of a little owl themed nursery for our baby owlet.

[name_f]Heracleia[/name_f] in full means “glory of Hera” and is a reference to an Ancient Greek summer festival honoring [name_m]Heracles[/name_m] with music, theatre, and athletic competitions. [name_f]My[/name_f] wife and I are both performers and creators and I love the idea of honoring millenia of community, performance, food, and fun. Hopefully our little [name_f]Hera[/name_f] will have plenty of happy summer days doing whatever she loves.
[name_f][/name_f]Her middle name is [name_f]Joy[/name_f] as a reminder. That she is our joy, that she is on this earth to feel joy, and that joy is not guaranteed. [name_f]Joy[/name_f] is sacred for many people in the queer community because many of us (my wife and I included) had to fight so hard for our happy endings. This last baby would be a beautifully happy finale for our family. [name_f][/name_f] Our hope is that our little protectress will always fight for her own happiness and that of others.

[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] is old-fashioned yet girly. I love the long [name_f][/name_f] A sound of the ending and I love all nickname potential. [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] flows well with [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and means “beautiful voice” which given that I am a singer is a very important meaning! She’s also a nymph in Greek mythology. [name_f]My[/name_f] family is from Cornwall so this is a direct tie to my heritage. I also love the nature meaning and that it sounds like a name from a fantasy setting. “Birdie” ties together nature, music and happiness all into one nickname.

Together they make me think of a garden in the woods which was the setting of my husband and I’s wedding. I love this combo, to me she’s bright, spunky, playful, while still being grounded, and has the coolest nickname.

[name_f][/name_f]Grimalda [name_f]Laureline[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- Grimalda is a direct honour for several family members, most notably my late auntie who was an activist in the 70s and 80s while also working as a nurse. I just recently met some of her old friends including the woman she loved, so I’ve grown much closer to the idea of her and want her to be honoured, despite having been disowned by our family in her lifetime for loving the same way I do. [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Kestrel[/name_f] [name_f]Selbea[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- [name_f]Kestrel[/name_f] honours my grandfather and many other relatives, who kept birds of prey. [name_f]Selbea[/name_f] is a family name with several uses throughout my family tree, but most notably to me, my great-great grandmother, who overcame massive hardship to become the first in the family to be literate, and passed literacy onto her children.
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Celandine[/name_f] Jadyra [name_f][/name_f]- Celandines are my close friend/father figure’s favourite flower and as he has no kids of his own, I would like to honour him in one of my children’s names. Celandines also feature in a favourite childhood song of mine. Jadyra honours my late brother [name_m]Asher[/name_m], through their shared meaning, as well as being a nod to my Kazakh heritage.
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Alafair[/name_f] Lierka [name_f][/name_f]- [name_f]Alafair[/name_f] is a family name that has been used at least a dozen times that I know of, but has been gathering dust up on a shelf on memory since her last bearer passed in the 40s, so I think she’s long past due for a revival! Lierka is the variant spelling of [name_f]Ljerka[/name_f], meaning lily, that has been used a couple of times in my family. I would be using her to honour my late sister [name_f]Shoshana[/name_f].
