thank you so much evy, ![]()
i love seeing the matilda appreciation too ![]()
Iām going to name my quartet by renaming my existing 2 daughters the names I would have used had I not had to make my husband happy as well as myself. lol
-
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
I became obsessed with this name while expecting my first. I have no real connection with [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] other than Shakespeareās [name_m]Cymbeline[/name_m]. I just love it. When I was a kid I had 27 baby dolls all of whom had names, middle names and birth dates. One was [name_f]Megan[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], another [name_f]Sharon[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and yet another [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]. Needless to say Iāve been obsessed with [name_f]Rose[/name_f] for many years. -
[name_u]Hazel[/name_u] [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]
The first time I saw my second baby girl I thought she looked like a [name_u]Hazel[/name_u]. We had already settled on a name that everyone knew, so I didnāt even attempt to change it. I still think she looks like a [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] though. [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] would be after my great grandma. -
[name_f]Ferelith[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]
I love the meaning of [name_f]Ferelith[/name_f] (ātrue sovereigntyā) and the sound of it. She definitely sounds like a magical fairytale name. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband says she sounds like an elf.
As for [name_f]Kate[/name_f], my mom, sister, 2 auntās, grandma and I all have different variants of [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] either as our 1st or middle name. [name_f]Kate[/name_f] isnāt one of them. It would link her to us while still giving her her own name. -
[name_f]Temperance[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]
[name_f]Temperance[/name_f] is another long-term love. [name_f]My[/name_f] sister dislikes it which is why I havenāt used it. [name_f]My[/name_f] sister is into genealogy though and discovered a great great great grand aunt named [name_f]Temperance[/name_f] along with pictures and everything and it made me love the name all over again. Plus one of my favorite things to tell my kids is āall things in moderationā. lol [name_f]My[/name_f] mom has been begging me to use [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] or [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] since I started having kids almost 13 years ago. Itās finally started growing on me.
Iāve loved seeing everyoneās responses!! [name_f]My[/name_f] four changes all the time, but today Iām lovingā¦
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_u]Lark[/name_u] - my longtime favorite! It has so many parts to it that I love. It honors family and has a beautiful meaning!
[name_u]Anne[/name_u] [name_f]Desdemona[/name_f] - Both names are honors, and Iāve just always loved this combo! [name_u]Anne[/name_u] is really special to me, it has a lot of personal significance.
[name_u]Marian[/name_u] ___ - I have [name_u]Marian[/name_u] [name_f]Perdita[/name_f] in my UC, but realistically I donāt think Iād use it (realistically I donāt know if I would use both [name_u]Marian[/name_u] and [name_u]Anne[/name_u] either but
) . I still love [name_u]Marian[/name_u] on its own though! Itās so gentle and pretty.
[name_f]Helen[/name_f] [name_f]Augusta[/name_f] - This one is newer to my list but Iāve been really loving it lately! It flows so well. I also think it helps bridge the gap between [name_u]Anne[/name_u] and [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] (which are the same style to me but sometimes the difference in lengths makes me hesitate), making all four names fit together nicely!
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Mahogany[/name_f], [name_f]Lucie[/name_f] [name_u]November[/name_u], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Poem[/name_f], [name_u]Celeste[/name_u] [name_f]Whimsy[/name_f]
The middles all just seem perfect with the first names. [name_f]Alice[/name_f] is a really special name for me (someone named [name_f]Alice[/name_f] got me through a pretty hard time), [name_f]Lucie[/name_f] is both my best friendās name and the name of one of my favourite characters, [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] is just a favourite of mine, and I recently met a little [name_u]Celeste[/name_u] (nicknamed Sessie!) who now has my heart
Stunning!
Also really love Anne Desdemona!
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f] āJulesā [name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] āRosieā [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] āElizaā [name_u]Wren[/name_u]
[name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
Oof, this is tough! Following the pattern of a name we like with an honor middle name, maybeā¦
[name_u]Levi[/name_u] [name_u]Joseph[/name_u], [name_u]Griffin[/name_u] [name_m]Cole[/name_m] (my two sons) and:
[name_f]Tessa[/name_f] [name_f]Diane[/name_f]
[name_u]Romilly[/name_u] [name_f]Annette[/name_f]
[name_f]Sadie[/name_f] [name_f]Eileen[/name_f]
[name_f]Noemi[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
Reviving my own thread to update my answers ![]()
today Iād name four girlsā¦
[name_f]Melody[/name_f] [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]
- admittedly this combo changes based on what song is inspiring me for the middle, and right now [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] by [name_f]Gracie[/name_f] [name_m]Abrams[/name_m] is speaking to me. [name_f]Melody[/name_f] is for⦠music, which has been the heart and soul of my whole life, and for the nickname āDeeDeeā, a family nickname Iād love to pass down to a new generation
[name_f]Althea[/name_f] [name_u]Ocean[/name_u]
[name_f]Althea[/name_f] is for the Grateful Dead Song, a song thatās lyrical poetry is so vast itās impossible for me to ever fully grasp. [name_u]Ocean[/name_u] is indeed for the ocean. I spent a lot of my childhood on family vacations to the beach and they are some of my most peaceful, intimate memories
[name_f]Ramona[/name_f] [name_f]Summer[/name_f]
[name_f]Ramona[/name_f] is spunky, literary perfection! She is for [name_f]Ramona[/name_f] [name_u]Quimby[/name_u] and pure childhood joy. [name_f]Summer[/name_f] is for the [name_u]John[/name_u] Prine Song, Summerās End, especially [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] Bridgerās cover of it. I listened to her cover nonstop all last summer and it marks such a special time in my life
[name_u]Hazel[/name_u] [name_u]October[/name_u]
[name_u]Hazel[/name_u] is a name Iāve always thought I would personally fit well! [name_u]October[/name_u] is my dadās birth month, an amazing person who I admire to no end. [name_u]October[/name_u] is also for the girl in red song, which tells a story of such pure love. [name_f]My[/name_f] daughter will probably have two moms, so itās important to me that I give her apart of that identity and show her she will be supported, no matter who she loves
DeeDee, [name_f]Thea[/name_f], [name_u]Romy[/name_u] & [name_u]Haze[/name_u]
Ooh, nice! Because I wanted to update my answers too, haha, but I didnāt want to revive it ![]()
Leonora Elizabeth
Leonora is one of my parentsā favorite names, and what my little brother would have been named if he was a girl. Coincidentally, I did not know any of this when I fell in love with the nameāI first fell in love with it because of an amazing character in a TV show, who I still love immensely. Elizabeth honors family members, and many other people who have had a large effect on my life, as well as Elizabeth Bennet, one of my biggest fictional heroes.
Felicity Glenrose
Iāll admit, I first fell in love with Felicity because of her
vibes
, but she also means good fortune or happy, which is such a simple but beautiful concept. Glenrose is an honor for my dad, grandfather and (favorite) brother, all of whom are amazing people. As a bonus, Glenrose has that cottagecore feel that I love.
Maud Wisteria
Maud is for Lucy Maud Montgomery, a woman who Iāve never met, but whoās had a big impact on who I am today. Wisteria comes from the lyrics in the Taylor Swift song, the lakes, āI want to watch wisteria grow right over my bare feet/cause I havenāt moved in years.ā I love these lines, and this song in general, because Iāve always wanted to have a place in my life thatās just peace, tranquility, and nature. (if that makes sense, haha)
Daisy Evangeline
Daisy is a stretchy honor for my little brother, who was born in April. Itās also a subtle nod to my favorite Taylor Swift song of all time, Youāre On Your Own, Kid. The meaning of Evangeline, bearer of good news, has been stuck in my head for the past little while, as I feel like we could all use some good news from time to time, and I know that my future daughter would be that good news for me.
Leo, Flick, Maud, and Daisy ![]()
yay! I love reading these! your choices are so lovely- Iām especially enamored with [name_f]Maud[/name_f] [name_f]Wisteria[/name_f]
she sounds like a storybook character and Iām a sucker for any name that honors a song (if you couldnāt tell
)

beautiful choices! what a dream to have four daughters. Today:
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Opal[/name_f]
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Selah[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] [name_u]Blythe[/name_u]
[name_f]Willa[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Cici[/name_f], [name_f]Evy[/name_f], [name_f]Rosa[/name_f] and WillaBea
Two of these names I used.
[name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]: I babysat a little Welsh girl when I was twelve and fell in love with the name [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] then. (Thanks, DeGrassi High, for making it popular after my daughter was born and bequeathing a horde of creative spellings.) Itās an honor name, for my Norwegian great-grandmother Sofie-Katarine. [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] was the name of my dadās grandmother, a name Iāve always loved.
[name_f]Rachel[/name_f] [name_f]Helen[/name_f]: [name_f]Rachel[/name_f] was after my grandmothersā (on both sides) favorite cousins, both of whom I met once. One Cousin [name_f]Rachel[/name_f] was part of the Norwegian branch of the family, having escaped to the UK just before the invasion of Norway. The other cousin [name_f]Rachel[/name_f] was an opera singer and world traveler. [name_f]Helen[/name_f] was my dadās mother, my beloved grandmother, who was a mainstay of childrenās books for most of her life. [name_f]My[/name_f] [name_f]Rachel[/name_f] did not survive her birth.
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] ā No honorifics, I just love these two names.
[name_f]Martha[/name_f] [name_f]Angharad[/name_f] ā [name_f]Martha[/name_f] is another honorific from the Norwegian side of the family, I loved my Tante [name_f]Marthe[/name_f]. [name_f]Angharad[/name_f] is the name of the main character in [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] Mahyās brilliant novel, The Tricksters, as well as a Welsh mythological name.
[name_f]Kate[/name_f], [name_f]Rachel[/name_f], [name_f]Cecily[/name_f], and [name_f]Martha[/name_f]
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u] [name_f]Maya[/name_f] nn June/Junie - [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] trees have always been special to us, and we picked the name [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] for a future daughter when we were first dating. Years later it is still our first pick! [name_f]Maya[/name_f] is after [name_f]Maya[/name_f] [name_f]Angelou[/name_f] and after the main character in my favorite book as a child, Paint the Wind by [name_f]Pam[/name_f] MuƱoz [name_u]Ryan[/name_u].
[name_f]Evelina[/name_f] [name_u]Lupine[/name_u] nn [name_f]Nina[/name_f] - [name_f]Nina[/name_f] was our second pick for a middle name but we felt [name_f]Maya[/name_f] worked better with [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] and fell in love with [name_f]Nina[/name_f] for a potential first name, and love the connection to [name_f]Nina[/name_f] [name_u]Simone[/name_u] who my husband loves, and to [name_f]Nina[/name_f] Otero-Warren, fellow activist to match [name_f]Maya[/name_f]. We have been toying with longer versions to use [name_f]Nina[/name_f] as the nickname and [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] is the current fave. [name_u]Lupine[/name_u] is from the time I spent living in [name_u]New[/name_u]
, they were everywhere on the [name_u]South[/name_u] [name_u]Island[/name_u] and became my favorite flower!
[name_f]Peridot[/name_f] [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] nn [name_f]Dottie[/name_f] - [name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I both really love the name [name_f]Peridot[/name_f] but itās lower on the list only because itās more adventurous than most of the names on our list. But we still love it! [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] is a current crush for the meaning āorder, beauty, universeā and I love how it looks/sounds with [name_f]Peridot[/name_f]!
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] [name_u]Kahlo[/name_u] nn [name_u]Romy[/name_u] - I have always loved [name_u]Romilly[/name_u] nn [name_u]Romy[/name_u] but I met a friend of a friendās child named [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] that went by [name_u]Romy[/name_u] and I completely fell in love with it! I think it goes really well with the rest of our longer choices with spunky nicknames and I love the middle name [name_u]Kahlo[/name_u] (another iconic activist!)
Honorary mentions - [name_f]Sunniva[/name_f] [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] nn [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] & [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] nn Phelie!

[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f]
Iām just obsessed with how each name feels like me ![]()
evangeline willa ruth ![]()
evangeline has been my favourite girl name for a long long time! my grandfather introduced it to me when we were going through our family tree together. my mom later mentioned how if i had a daughter, i could name her evangeline, and the name has never left me. it also ties into my [name_u]Christian[/name_u] faith. it also honours my two best friends and their mom, who is so important in my life. willa is an honour for my uncle, and ruth is for my wonderful mom, as itās her middle name. i also adore ruth from the Bible, and the book of ruth is one of my favourites. the meanings āgood newsā and ācompassionate friendā are just lovely.
beatrice amelia melrose ![]()
beatrice is a fairly new addition to my shortlist. my mom loves the name beatrice, and i was nearly named beatrice. i adore all of the possible meanings, āblessed; she who brings happiness; voyagerā. i love the nickname bea. amelia is another name i found in my family tree, but iām afraid is a little too popular for me to use in the first name spot. melrose is for a place thatās very special to me, where iāve spent some of the best parts of my life.
judith philippa jasper ![]()
judith is for my grandmother, who means so much to me. i love the meaning of judith, āwoman from judeaā. the nickname jude is so sweet. i love so many names that end in -th, but judith has been my favourite for so long. i could really see this on a future daughter of mine. philippa has been a name iāve loved for a long time. jasper is another thatās been one of my favourite girlās names for so long. sheās been one of the only names to stay at the top of my girlās list through all of its changes over the years. it feels very perfect for a future daughter of mine!
margaret johanna gwendolyn āmegā ![]()
margaret is for my other grandmother! i absolutely adore the nickname meg, itās been a favourite for so long and i love it for the more serious margaret. johanna is in honour of my aunt, someone who was like a second mother to me. gwendolyn is a steadfast favourite of mine.
ok this fluctuates eternally but today it would be:
beatrix maeva ![]()
she who brings happiness; welcome
ramona zephyr ![]()
wise protector; west wind
elowyn sunday ![]()
elm tree; day of the sun
florence junia ![]()
flourishing, prosperous; born in june
