CAF With a Twist 💖

[name_m]Ferris[/name_m] [name_u]Kingston[/name_u] Booth-Osmoor (27) is Dani’s father and Hunter’s recent newlywed husband. He’s jokingly nicknamed “Tiger King” for his conservation on big cats which he thinks is funny although he’d never be close to a [name_u]Joe[/name_u] Exotic (or a [name_f]Carole[/name_f] Baskin either). He loves conservation and protection and considers himself an ally to wildlife. He’s madly in love with [name_u]Hunter[/name_u] and never lets this fade and tell her he loves her every day. Interestingly, [name_m]Ferris[/name_m] met [name_u]Hunter[/name_u] on a blind date. He was shy and nervous as well but [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], alongside Ferris’s elder sister, both encouraged him, saying they would never steer him wrong and it was a blind date, not an arranged marriage. [name_m]Little[/name_m] did the two know it would end up a marriage after all.

[name_m]Ferris[/name_m] has caught onto [name_u]Hunter[/name_u] and [name_u]Dani[/name_u] potentially helping [name_m]Derrick[/name_m] get a date. He’s sensing [name_m]Derrick[/name_m] is shy much like he was at finding love although the type of people [name_m]Derrick[/name_m] would date aren’t always the same [name_m]Ferris[/name_m] would date. [name_m]Ferris[/name_m] is close with [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] since making him Dani’s godfather and he’s happy things with him and [name_f]Sahara[/name_f] worked out happy in the end. [name_f]Sahara[/name_f] is enjoying pregnancy with her twins and that’s what matters all-and-all, especially since [name_m]Ferris[/name_m] believes they will be great parents. [name_m]Ferris[/name_m] is also a good father to [name_u]Dani[/name_u] and is flattered his love of animals rubbed off on her. She has a whole collection of stuffed animals and even a few stuffed buggies. Saorla’s sons have met [name_u]Dani[/name_u] and one of them also really loves bug hunting, and it’s a cute activity for both of them.

[name_u]Colby[/name_u] [name_f]Ada[/name_f] Yahalom, nee [name_m]Booth[/name_m] (28) is Ferris’ sister-in-law and the middle of the [name_m]Booth[/name_m] siblings, as there’s actually another sister who’s older than [name_u]Colby[/name_u]. A mother of two: a 4-year-old son and 16-month-old daughter, [name_u]Colby[/name_u] and her husband decided to give their children distinct Hebrew names in tribute to her husband’s heritage. She actually converted to Judaism following her marriage, as she knows how important faith is to her partner, something her parents completely supported, as did the Yahalom family - although even if [name_u]Colby[/name_u] hadn’t made this decision, she wanted her children to be raised in their fathers’ faith.

Having worked as a model in her late teens up until her mid-twenties, [name_u]Colby[/name_u] decided to become involved in philanthropy shortly before her son celebrated his second birthday. While she loved her old career and speaks happily of it, the extensive travel was starting to tire her out, and she didn’t want it to burden on the games she loved playing with her son. Subsequently, Colby’s become heavily involved in promoting a huge array of charitable organisations, and she’s also written for local papers explaining what each of them do - although she jokes about how someone proof reads, thanks to her dyslexia.

Something Colby’s heavily involved in is LGTBQIA+ rights: her older sister’s a trans woman and her husband’s youngest sibling is genderqueer, using they/he pronouns. Her husband’s a history academic who specialises in documenting the sociological progression of marginalised groups, and this is actually how they met. [name_u]Colby[/name_u] was involved in a shoot to promote the sexual liberation of women, and he was there to contribute to the accompanying writing piece, with the pair almost immediately bonding when he noticed she was listening to REM - and who doesn’t love discussing music?

Given their different backgrounds, the two didn’t imagine they’d end up as a couple - [name_u]Colby[/name_u] was very worried her future husband might consider her vapid or empty-headed, as stereotypes still linger and she admits to using a fair deal of vocal fry - but their connection was almost instant. They were together for 4 years by the time she fell pregnant, and honestly, [name_u]Colby[/name_u] wouldn’t have done things any other way where her marriage is concerned.

[name_f]Jethra[/name_f] [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] Yahalom [16 mos] is Colby’s youngest child. She’s very shy when it comes to strangers but very outgoing when it comes to her friends and family. [name_f]Jethra[/name_f] has a soft spot for her maternal auntie and always lights up when she sees her at any family gatherings. [name_m]Just[/name_m] as her parents are passionate about women’s and LGBT+ rights so is [name_f]Jethra[/name_f], much of her wardrobe includes rainbows at her insistence and when picking out new books to read she loves getting ones that feature all different kinds of characters and families.

She’s pretty attached to her mother and prefers to stay at her side whenever [name_u]Colby[/name_u] is around though both she and her husband aren’t concerned and are pretty sure she’ll grow out of it. Jethra’s four year old brother was the same way at her age. [name_f]Jethra[/name_f] also loves to look at the photos of [name_u]Colby[/name_u] from her modeling career and keeps a mini scrapbook of some of her favorites that she keeps on the shelf in her room beside all the other princess stories. The rest of her bookshelves are pretty organized as well, mostly by type of story or type of book since she has so many. Besides storybooks she also loves coloring books, she uses lots of rainbows of course.

Much to Colby’s worry, as she’s begun to speak Jethra’s also picked up a bit of her mother’s vocal fry. Though Jethra’s father finds it amusing and sweet and not the least bit annoying.

[name_m]Aviel[/name_m] " [name_u]Avi[/name_u] " [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] Yahalom (4) is Jethra’s brother and Colby’s firstborn. While he’s a little more outgoing than his sister around strangers, [name_u]Avi[/name_u] still proves to be quiet, more noticeably now he’s started attending nursery with much bolder personalities around him. Next to [name_f]Jethra[/name_f] around family, he actually seems subdued, however when [name_u]Avi[/name_u] gets into a conversation with someone he’s close to, he can talk endlessly, and he loves to hear about what they’re getting up to.

Thanks to only being a year apart in age, he and [name_u]Dani[/name_u] share a very strong friendship, and their parents just about trust them to play together without causing chaos. [name_u]Avi[/name_u] serves as another one of her psuedo siblings, and while [name_u]Dani[/name_u] was very envious when [name_f]Jethra[/name_f] was born - as her cousin got exactly what she wanted while being much more neutral about things - she’s not held a grudge, and they’ve continued building their cuddly toy hospital together!

Currently, Avi’s in his ‘hippy expressionist period’, as his dad affectionately calls it. He’s always exploring in their garden, bug hunting or asking about helping out with the plants they have, and serves as an assistant to his parents when they’re watering or planting something. At school, the natural world is always what gets him the most engaged, and he’s made some leaf artwork - his proudest piece being a stegosaurus, which his mom framed for him. [name_u]Avi[/name_u] would love to go camping at some point - as it’s the ultimate means of being in nature as far as he’s concerned - and his parents are discussing going on a trip for his next birthday.

[name_f]Elanore[/name_f] “Mimi” [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] (5) is the sweet little neighbor and Avi’s closest friend. [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] is the funny, bold one of the two young friends, who always knows what to say to help [name_u]Avi[/name_u] feel braver. When [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] first met [name_u]Dani[/name_u], she was extremely jealous. Avi’s cousin and him are very close, and [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] felt left out. But quickly [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] became a close friend of [name_u]Dani[/name_u] too.

[name_f]Mimi[/name_f] lives with her grandparents, [name_u]Jerry[/name_u] and [name_f]Celine[/name_f] [name_u]Jameson[/name_u], and her 4 older siblings. [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] is the youngest and wildest. Her grandparent’s house backs up to a huge ranch, and she spends most of her time exploring the huge field and barn. She likes bringing [name_u]Avi[/name_u] with her, and they spend a lot of their time finding bugs and hiding under trees. She is trying to convince her grandparents to let them camp out in their backyard someday, because she knows [name_u]Avi[/name_u] really wants to go camping. While the two of them don’t go to the same school (she goes to a private catholic school), [name_u]Avi[/name_u] is the person she spends most of her time with. The kids at her school just “don’t fit”.

Her grandparents are concerned she doesn’t have enough friends. They don’t know if it’s because she is young and has a strange personality, or if its because of her siblings, who can be mean, and all remember their parents, unlike [name_f]Mimi[/name_f], who was only 1 when they died. She is very strong-willed and has crazy ideas about the world, and spends her time dancing in nature singing and making up stories. Her siblings think she’s crazy, but she thinks they’re the crazy ones. At school, her only friends are [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] and [name_f]Grace[/name_f], who both hang out with her mostly because their older siblings are friends with Mimi’s older siblings.

Avi’s parents and Mimi’s grandparent’s are close and they enjoy watching their shy kids express themselves and have a good friend. Many summer nights are spent grilling and sitting on the porch watching the kids chase fireflies around. The two families are always taking photos and laughing, saying “We’ll be showing these at their wedding someday,”.

[name_u]Welcome[/name_u] to Nameberry! [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] is so cute oh my goodness!

Warning for deaths of parents.

[name_f]Aneira[/name_f] [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] (10) is the second-youngest sibling in the Jamesons, being twice Mimi’s age. Her memories with her late parents shaped her life, with her love of flowers coming from her mother and she never goes to her mother’s grave without them. She also loves boats, inspired by her late father, and always loved sailing with him as a child, calling him “Captain”. She loves pigs so much at the farm and says the little piglets are adorable, even when some people say pigs are ugly and filthy. Her parents always supported her love for piggies and she still has them as her fave animal. [name_f]Aneira[/name_f] also loves farm trivia and plays it a lot with family to lighten the mood. The main difference between her grief at 6 and at 10 is that she’s more aware it’s permanent and knows everyone will die at some point. Still, she isn’t quite the nicest sister to [name_f]Mimi[/name_f], telling her little sister that she will never understand the grief of her elder siblings, while dismissing Mimi’s feelings of hardly having the privilege of knowing her late parents better. What also seems unfair is [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] being so much younger than the other [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] siblings, to the point people think there are just 4 siblings and forget about [name_f]Mimi[/name_f]. Some siblings have caught on that this really hurts her feelings.

Aneira’s not vocal about death, given she grew up without grieving any prior deaths, and wasn’t really taught much about that subject. She had never even grieved a pet before, given [name_f]Aneira[/name_f] was not even alive yet when the senior family dog passed away before she was born. The older siblings know this moment much more but even that doesn’t prepare them for death. [name_f]Aneira[/name_f] has taken on a more rebellious streak and her grandparents were informed when [name_f]Aneira[/name_f] attempted to skip school. [name_f]Aneira[/name_f] has picked up on another sibling’s rebellion and both have served detention a lot at their respective Catholic schools. Their grandparents are very disappointed in the two of them, but don’t want to give a harsh punishment given the deaths of their parents have been a harsh punishment enough. Given Aneira’s love for flowers and nature, she would love to go camping with [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] and the family. They can play farm trivia and even tell stories and sing songs around the campfire no matter how crazy…but she worries she’s hurt [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] too much and that [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] wouldn’t want to hang out with her.

tw: grief (unblurred), panic attack

[name_f]Celine[/name_f] [name_f]Petunia[/name_f] [Bathory] [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] (64) is the loving grandmother of [name_f]Aneira[/name_f] and [name_f]Mimi[/name_f], and the mother of their father. Their father was her only child, and she misses him terribly every day. She cries on all the kids’ birthdays and other big milestones because she wishes he and his wife were there to see them. She goes to grief counseling every [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] to try and repair her sadness but nothing will fully fill the hole left by her son’s absence. [name_f]Celine[/name_f], much like [name_f]Aneira[/name_f], loves to garden, and has a big old garden in her backyard, including a cactus named [name_u]Georgie[/name_u] that’s been in the Bathory family for generations. She promises to give it to [name_f]Aneira[/name_f] someday, which the little girl is very excited about. [name_f]Celine[/name_f], like her husband [name_u]Jerry[/name_u], is Catholic. She grew up in a large Catholic family in the city and hopes to instill some of her religious values into her grandchildren but isn’t forceful about it. She’s very disappointed in their misbehavior and tries to discipline them without being to harsh- after all, she thinks she was too hard on her son and wishes she would have told him she loved him more.

[name_f]Celine[/name_f] and [name_u]Jerry[/name_u] met in high school. [name_u]Jerry[/name_u] was actually a bit of a troublemaker himself, while [name_f]Celine[/name_f] was the strait-laced Catholic private school girl. [name_f]Celine[/name_f] was in the choir and loved singing, and [name_u]Jerry[/name_u] would often be in detention and hear their choir practice and see her walking out. He fell in love and vowed to not cause trouble and instead worked on self reflection and improvement. Jerry’s older brother, his only sibling, had been arrested as a teenager for being a troublemaker and he also didn’t want to carry on the family reputation of trouble. [name_f]Celine[/name_f] found Jerry’s antics of trying to impress her charming and the two married as soon as they got out of high school. [name_f]Celine[/name_f] got a job as a music teacher at the school she went to after going to college and has recently retired!

Her son came while she was in college- he was unplanned, and [name_f]Celine[/name_f] was shocked as her and [name_u]Jerry[/name_u] were usually careful to use protection. However, the second he was placed into her arms, she fell in love with him. She also loved his wife for her love of gardening and kind, helpful nature. She would often accompany them on their cruises, and loved being near the water. When she got a call from the hospital and was notified of the accident that killed her son and his wife, she crumpled to the floor in shock. She was so overloaded by emotion that she couldn’t speak or breathe. Her head was flooded with emotion and then there she was, having a full-blown panic attack on her kitchen floor. [name_u]Jerry[/name_u] helped her through this and she’s very grateful for her husband’s support.

As for now, she’s happy to have her grandchildren, and is very fond of them, and sees lots of her son and their mother in them all. She’s happy for the friendship between [name_u]Avi[/name_u] and [name_f]Mimi[/name_f], and is glad to have befriended Avi’s parents, and thinks [name_u]Colby[/name_u] and her husband are wonderful people. She is currently worried about sending [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] to kindergarten every day and letting her baby granddaughter go off into the big world and is considering sending her to another school because she’s scared her older siblings’ reputation as troublemakers will rub off on her, but [name_u]Jerry[/name_u] is encouraging her to relax, because they both know she’s a wonderful girl and will grow up into a wonderful woman.

[name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] (12), is the middle child of the [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] kids. The most rebellious of the 5, he has been getting into a lot of trouble lately, fighting with classmates, his siblings, and disrespecting his teachers and grandparents.

He is angry with himself and at his family. He misses his parents everyday, and he’s moody, rude, and goes to detention almost 3 times a week.

The only people he’s close to are his sister [name_f]Aneira[/name_f], who follows everything he does, and his best friend, [name_u]Beck[/name_u], who gets into as much trouble as he does. [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] enjoys video games and riding his skateboard.

He is the meanest to [name_f]Mimi[/name_f], his youngest sister, and he blames her for their parents death because they were going to pick her up from daycare when they got into a car crash, even though he knows it’s not her fault. He also hates his two older siblings, and finds them controlling and mean. He’s been taking his anger out on his whole family and is very mean to his grandparents, his caregivers. He knows it’s wrong, but he’s just so angry. He has even tried to run away more than 5 times, but always gets caught or goes home when he gets nervous.

tw: trauma, brief mentions of cancer, implied domestic abuse

Diamantia [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] [17] is the eldest of the [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] kids, often called ‘Demand-tia’ by [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] on account of her ever present controlling attitude. Of all the fights in the [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] household at least 80% are started by her, the other 20% are probably started by the sibling between her and [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m], the sibling that the 12 year old boy considers to be “Almost as mean as Demand-tia.”

As pictured here, she’s a pretty heavy smoker and has been since she was 13. It was one of the first habits she picked up after the death of her parents. Her grandparents have tried everything that they can think of to get her to quit from showing her those scary anti-smoking PSAs that feature people who have tracheotomies or those voice box thingies as a result of throat, lung, or other cancers caused by smoking, to literally bribing her with cash. None of it works. No matter how many times they take away her fake ID, throw away her secret stashes, or hide her wallet. She always ends up walking in the front door after school with a cigarette dangling from her lips. Though she’s not a total hellion and only smokes in her room or outside, not around her siblings.

Her first cigarette was given to her by her current best friend who’s a year older than her and is described as a “Terrible girl and a bad influence.” by [name_f]Celine[/name_f] and [name_u]Jerry[/name_u] though that only fuels Damantia’s desire to hang out with her more. Her best friend is also troubled, or rather traumatized. She was born to a single mom who had a string of boyfriends who were always nothing but trouble. Something about a terrible temper always attracted her mother to them. So now the girls are well bonded and often travel around town causing chaos and leaving plumes of smoke behind them.

Being the oldest Dimantia has the most memories of her parents and took their deaths very harshly. Her parents unique choice to not give her or her siblings middle names was something that she used to be very proud of. She once loved how it made her so special, but now resents it as just another thing that makes her different from the other kids in her grade. Dimantia absolutely despises how people know her and her siblings as ‘the ones with the dead parents’ and couldn’t stand the hush that would fall over the room whenever she entered it for about a solid year after their deaths. It was part of what inspired her to give them something to talk about, hence her transformation from the formerly bubbly and bright 13 year old who was a star on the gymnastics team that she once was before her parents died.

While their relationship isn’t great, there’s an understanding between her and her other siblings, particularly [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] and his desire to run away. A few times she’s seen him running down the driveway with a backpack and a bike and not said a word to her grandparents. Dimantia knows exactly how he feels and would love to leave it all behind too.

She’s counting down the days until she’s 18 and can leave to go live on her own. She and her friend are planning on getting a van and traveling the country in it so that they’re never tied down. Her grandparents often try to convince her that running away from her trauma isn’t going to solve anything, but that typically only leads to more fights.

Things have grown more and more tense in the house ever since Diamantia, her best friend, and some other kids, were busted for getting drunk and vandalizing the school with some ‘specific language.’ [name_f]Celine[/name_f] and [name_u]Jerry[/name_u] managed to help her avoid jail time, but that’s not to say that they aren’t preparing a punishment of their own. Whatever they have in mind though, they better prepare for the fight of a lifetime from their eldest granddaughter who has every intention of going down swinging.

tw: smoking, ideas of discrimination against LGBTQ+

Sabine Jameson (15) is the 2nd oldest and possibly sweetest of the 5 Jameson children. Well, at least in the eyes of everyone but her siblings. Just like her older sister, Sabine has been given a nickname by her brother Lachlan; “Samean”. While she’s a sweet, straight-A, rule follower, she still starts plenty of fights in her household.

She holds the Jameson family titles “best listener, nicest, and best grades”. These things are things that her parents would have wanted all of their kids to have, and she really honors that. She’s almost never mean to her youngest sisters; Aneira and Mimi, since pretty much all the fights in the house are between the three oldest Jameson kids. Still though, she can’t always understand Mimi’s crazy views and stories, or Aneira’s trivia and love for flowers and pigs, and thinks the two of them were too little to really remember the pain of their parents’ death.

The worst thing for poor Sabine is the fact that she and Diamantia used to be really close, before the death of their parents. The two of them used to spend all of their time together, go to gymnastics and ballet, and they even shared a lot of the same friends. She felt betrayed when Diamantia started changing, getting in trouble, leaving her behind, and Sabine changed her focus to her schoolwork, ballet, church, and the new friends she’s made. Diamantia finds this really annoying.

Another thing that’s been bothering Sabine is her sexuality. She thinks she might be bi, and she has a girlfriend named Leila, but she’s scared to come out to her family. Leila is more a secret girlfriend that everyone thinks is just her best friend. Sabine’s grandparents are very religious and Sabine doesn’t know if they would be supportive. She is also worried about what Diamantia might say. She has always looked up to her big sister but after everything that’s happened, she’s nervous and doesn’t know anything really about her sister anymore.

Sabine loves ballet. It’s the only thing that can make her feel better, her form of meditation. She’s been doing it since she was 2 years old, and she used to do it with Diamantia. She also did gymnastics from age 3 to age 11, and quit after her parents death.

Sabine spends a lot of her time worrying. She worries about Lachlan and his tendecies to try to run away. She worries about Aneira following in both Lachlan and Diamantia’s footsteps. She worries about Mimi’s ability to fit in, and feels bad about the way everyone treats her like she knows nothing (but she doesn’t know how to fix it). She worries about Diamantia’s smoking habits, her behavior, the possibility that she could and probably will, end up in jail. She worries about her grandparent’s health, and she worries about being accepted as a part of the LBTQ+ community.

**tw: abusive relationships (aforementioned), cigarettes **

[name_f]Jemma[/name_f] [name_f]Helena[/name_f] [name_m]Parsons[/name_m] (18) is the friend of Diamantia who always causes trouble with her, who knows [name_f]Sabine[/name_f] through Diamantia. [name_f]Sabine[/name_f] doesn’t like [name_f]Jemma[/name_f], and finds her to be rude and crass and doesn’t want her anywhere near the [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] household. Still, [name_f]Sabine[/name_f] does still pity [name_f]Jemma[/name_f] greatly. Her mother is currently in a relationship with another flaky and abusive guy who probably won’t stick around, and once again refuses to learn her lesson, proclaiming to be “madly in love” with the douchebag. [name_f]Jemma[/name_f] herself is bi, and knows she’ll never date a man for that reason- she has to built up in her mind that all men are trash and none are worth her time. And who could blame her? With all the stuff she’s been through it’s really hard not to feel that way.

[name_f]Jemma[/name_f] met Diamantia when they were 13 and 14 (though in the same grade as [name_f]Jemma[/name_f] was held back), ironically, in school detention. [name_f]Jenna[/name_f] gave her the playful nickname of “dementia” and Diamantia started a fight with her, but their rivalry blossomed into an odd sort of friendship. In spite of her odd actions and her troublemaker ways, [name_f]Jemma[/name_f] loves Diamantia and while she gave her her first cigarette, she did it because Diamantia begged her for one and she didn’t want to say no out of fear of looking “lame”. The two girls bonded over their use of cigarettes as a means to cope. [name_f]Jemma[/name_f] used them whenever her home life went from bad to worse, and they became her one form of peace. Her mom never cared, and actually gave her cigarettes when she was only 12 after she asked her for them.

[name_f]Jemma[/name_f] also has a secret- she’s liked Diamantia ever since the two had met formally. Problem is, she’s pretty sure Diamantia is straight and would never feel the same way about her, so for now she’s perfectly content to remain the best friend of the girl she loves. She actually envies Diamantia a bit- she wishes her mom cared about her in the way that [name_f]Celine[/name_f] and [name_u]Jerry[/name_u] care about Diamantia. She wishes her mom would settle down and make an effort to care for her. Jemma’s been in jail many times for minor offenses such as shoplifting and vandalism, and her mother never made an effort to get her out. She never served over a month in jail but it still hardened her a bit. She met some bad people in there, and it doesn’t look like a good future is in the cards for her right now.

Warning: This character is Jemma’s mother, a highly unlikable character who is rather unjustified. Also warning for cigarettes and sexism.

[name_f]Georgine[/name_f] “ [name_f]Gertie[/name_f] ” [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] [name_m]Parsons[/name_m] (42) is Jemma’s mother, who’s much more rude and crass. Unlike [name_f]Jemma[/name_f], who is perceived as a bad influence but not hated as much, [name_f]Gertie[/name_f] is very hated. She instilled a lot of Jemma’s misandry against men given her own divorce when [name_f]Jemma[/name_f] was a toddler. She took advantage of the fact that women have an easier time getting full custody of men which is why Jemma’s father never got to raise her after the divorce. Only reason why she’s even dating a man is because he doesn’t have kids, looks attractive, and [name_f]Gertie[/name_f] constantly feels the need to compare him in a much better light than her husband, despite the fact that her husband was much nicer. The worst part is that her current boyfriend also is a smoker and that Gertie’s ex-husband tried to get her to quit when they were married, but [name_f]Gertie[/name_f] was too set on her addiction. Despite the “love” [name_f]Gertie[/name_f] has for her boyfriend, the two often get in verbal screaming matches and [name_f]Jemma[/name_f] stays away from them given her disdain of the verbal abuse. However given the toxic views [name_f]Gertie[/name_f] instilled into [name_f]Jemma[/name_f], it’s made [name_f]Jemma[/name_f] wrongly misandrist, although much of that also came from lies and fabrications [name_f]Gertie[/name_f] made as to why Jemma’s father isn’t in her life.

[name_f]Gertie[/name_f] is not abusive to [name_f]Jemma[/name_f] but she’s very emotionally neglecting, the reason why [name_f]Jemma[/name_f] was given cigarettes since 12. [name_f]Gertie[/name_f] gave [name_f]Jemma[/name_f] a home to live in, a bed to sleep on, and food on the table, but never gave much genuine care or attention to her. She never asked how Jemma’s day was, never focused on her hobbies, never celebrated with her when she was happy or comforted her when she was sad, and didn’t care if [name_f]Jemma[/name_f] made the right or wrong choice. [name_f]Gertie[/name_f] smoked underage as well so it meant nothing to her if [name_f]Jemma[/name_f] followed suit. [name_f]Gertie[/name_f] worked at a convenience store and sold cigarettes, although it didn’t bother her if the IDs of the people buying them were real or fake. [name_f]Gertie[/name_f] isn’t close to her family, given her parents were very strict and wanted to know everything about her when she grew up, which resulted in her being less than apathetic towards [name_f]Jemma[/name_f]. [name_f]Gertie[/name_f] has one sister who she’s not talked to in the past 3 years, and hardly talked to in the past 10. What [name_f]Gertie[/name_f] doesn’t know is that her ex-husband and her sister are doing the right thing and trying to rekindle bonds with [name_f]Jemma[/name_f], doing what she should have done since she first became a mother. They also would help [name_f]Jemma[/name_f] and Diamantia and make things better rather than worse. While [name_f]Gertie[/name_f] has no obligations to always bail [name_f]Jemma[/name_f] from jail, she never has once and simply doesn’t care because it’s all “Jemma’s fault”. As it turns out, [name_f]Gertie[/name_f] doesn’t care because it’s never happened to her, and she’s considered other people going jail as something that’s “someone else’s problem” and not something for her to personally worry about, even if it happens to her own daughter. This has changed since, given she’s been arrested by the police after repeated offences of knowingly supplying cigarettes to juveniles, alongside her boyfriend having a charge for when he was an accessory to the crime. She wants to get bailed, but next to her boyfriend who is also being charged, her closest contact is [name_f]Jemma[/name_f], despite never being there when she needed it. [name_f]Gertie[/name_f] could have gotten bailed…but given the way she’s been as a person, it serves her right for a change that she is the one in jail with nobody to help her.

[name_u]Journey[/name_u] ’ Jayje ’ [name_f]Josette[/name_f] [name_m]Blackburn[/name_m] [30] is someone who’s had multiple conversations with [name_f]Gertie[/name_f] but has scarcely gotten through to her. She’s a counselor at the local school which is a K-12 program so she’s seen [name_f]Mimi[/name_f], [name_f]Aneira[/name_f], [name_f]Sabine[/name_f], [name_f]Leila[/name_f], [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m], Diamantia, and [name_f]Jemma[/name_f] in her office many times. With the last three being the most frequent flyers to her office. She’s had a lot of nicknames in her life, JJ, [name_u]Jo[/name_u], Jay/J, even ‘That [name_f]Girl[/name_f] With The Hippie Parents,’ but her favorite by far is Ms. Jayje, or just Jayje which is a nickname of her existing nickname JJ that she encourages her students to call her over the stuffy ‘Counselor Blackburn.’

She’s tried hard to make progress with the [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] kids, particularly Diamantia since she fears that the seventeen year old is the one who’s most in danger. To be honest, Jayje sees a lot of herself in both her and [name_f]Jemma[/name_f]. As the target of bullying in her own school days due to her large family that rejected a lot of modern practices and traditions and focused on alternative living, Jayje often acted out and attempted to rebel against her parents’ ideals. She wore lots of black and cut all her hair off, even went by ‘Burney’ as a rejection of the ‘hippie’ name her parents gave her and her siblings. She eventually grew out of that though and also found healthier ways to cope with the bullying she faced and the conflict she felt at home.

After earning her degree in psychology and becoming a licensed counselor she wanted to give back and help kids who feel like she once did. Though Diamantia is an especially tough case. While she acknowledges the bond between her and [name_f]Jemma[/name_f], Jayje believes that what they have is a trauma bond that is not healthy for either girl. She’s been trying to foster independence between them by speaking with the teachers and separating them more often, but that doesn’t stop the girls from cutting class together to go smoke in Jemma’s car.

While [name_f]Celine[/name_f] and [name_u]Jerry[/name_u] are much more receptive to helping Jayje and her plan to best help Diamantia and [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m], her experiences with [name_f]Gertie[/name_f] and trying to get her to help [name_f]Jemma[/name_f] has been like speaking to a brick wall. It saddens her deeply to see a mother so apathetic about her child’s risky lifestyle but it only makes her want to try harder to reach both her and [name_f]Jemma[/name_f].

Her current plan is to recommend residential treatment for Diamantia and [name_f]Jemma[/name_f] since she thinks that a much more extensive therapy program will be able to tackle their deep rooted trauma better than she can. She’s also recommending a new therapist, coincidentally someone she went to school with, for [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m], [name_f]Aneira[/name_f], and [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] who might be able to help them all better than either she or their current therapist does. Jayje has been seeing these kids since the deaths of their parents and is hopeful that she’ll be able to see them through to the other side of this dark path, Diamantia espesially.

She often collaborates with Jayje on cases involving the [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] kids, and they frequently bounce ideas off each other. [name_m]Maxon[/name_m] " [name_u]Max[/name_u] " [name_m]Rosewood[/name_m] (7) is Samantha’s son and the best friend of one of Jayje’s nephews. He tends not to talk around people he doesn’t know but waves at them a lot. He doesn’t have much reason why he does it but it makes him happy when they wave back. He loves rainbows and cake, putting him in a cheery mood. He isn’t too aware of the issues surrounding the Jamesons but he’s seen them around and can’t imagine having no parents despite knowing that they live among their sweet grandparents. [name_u]Max[/name_u] is close with his own maternal grandparents and is always welcome at their place to enjoy watching movies on the couch with a blanket and a bowl of ice cream. [name_u]Max[/name_u] also enjoys hiking with his mother [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] and currently has a pet rock, [name_m]Stone[/name_m]. Basic name for a rock? Yes indeed it is, but to be fair, he wanted to name it “Stoner” but given the conflicts among the teens and bad influences, his mother advised against that

[name_u]Vesper[/name_u] " [name_f]Esti[/name_f] " [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] Roselaw (2) is Max’s maternal cousin, born to Samantha’s younger brother and his wife. Being so young, [name_u]Max[/name_u] isn’t exactly eager to involve her in his games, on account of the limitations a toddler brings, although the fact his best friend has a 3-year-old sibling means [name_u]Max[/name_u] has come to be more charitable where Esti’s concerned. His mom also suspects maybe some of his hesitance at embracing his little cousin is because she naturally garners immediate attention from their granddad and nana, constant doting figures in the lives of their kids and grandchildren.

Almost everything and anything makes [name_f]Esti[/name_f] laugh at the moment. She’s eager to embrace the world, and usually someone needs to keep an eye out once she’s on the move, as there’s a definite devious side to her problem solving. Her greatest enemy is an afternoon nap, as all [name_f]Esti[/name_f] wants is to be involved, and so having to sleep instantly presents an obstacle to her wishes - although she adores the stuffed dolphin her mom [a marine life conservationist] got her on a recent trip to [name_u]Hawaii[/name_u], who’s known as [name_f]Saffi[/name_f], short for [name_f]Sapphire[/name_f]. Esti’s surname is one her parents chose upon marrying - combining [name_m]Rosewood[/name_m] and Maidlaw - and it’s arguably best reflected in how she loves them completely equally, meaning she’s more than happy vying for the attentions of both of them at once!

[name_f]Lila[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_u]Carter[/name_u] (5) is Esti’s best friend from preschool. They met on the first day of school and instantly bonded over their love of animals and colors. [name_f]Lila[/name_f] is a cheerful and outgoing girl who likes to make everyone laugh with her jokes and stories. She is very creative and enjoys drawing, painting, and making crafts with [name_f]Esti[/name_f]. She also likes to play dress-up and pretend to be different characters, such as princesses, superheroes, or pirates. [name_f]Lila[/name_f] has a big family with two older brothers and a baby sister. Her parents are both teachers and they encourage her to learn new things every day. Lila’s favorite thing to do with [name_f]Esti[/name_f] is to go to the park and feed the ducks, or to visit the aquarium and see the dolphins. [name_f]Lila[/name_f] always shares her snacks and toys with [name_f]Esti[/name_f], and they often have sleepovers at each other’s houses. [name_f]Lila[/name_f] thinks [name_f]Esti[/name_f] is the best friend ever and she hopes they will always stay close.

[name_u]Finley[/name_u] ’ [name_u]Finn[/name_u] ’ [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] [name_u]Carter[/name_u] [15] is Lila’s older brother and the eldest of the family. He attends school with the [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] kids but only really knows [name_f]Sabine[/name_f] as she’s the same age as him. Watching the change in her and all her siblings after the deaths of their parents was strange and almost felt like a loss for the community as well since Mr. and Mrs. [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] were so well liked. He appreciates how [name_f]Sabine[/name_f] is still putting in the effort to be kind even in the face of the tragedy to her family. He also commends her for stepping into the role of ‘temporary eldest’ as her sister, Diamantia, leaves for residential treatment. Though she always was more of a third parent that Diamantia was considering she was always distracted with her own stuff and chaos with [name_f]Jemma[/name_f], who despite Jayje’s recommendation will not be departing for treatment like her friend as she could not get [name_f]Gertie[/name_f] to sign off on it.

Outside of his interactions with the Jamesons, [name_u]Finn[/name_u] is active on the school’s soccer team and is especially close with the goalie who consider each other best friends. Though lately he’s been experiencing some different feelings for him that are a little more than platonic. He’s unsure who to talk to about them though but should perhaps consider speaking to [name_f]Sabine[/name_f] or her ‘friend’ [name_f]Leila[/name_f] as they may have even more in common than he thought.

Warning for grief and panic attack.

[name_m]Gerard[/name_m] “ [name_u]Jerry[/name_u] “ [name_m]Ambrosius[/name_m] [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] (64) is Olivia’s piano teacher and Celine’s husband, also being the father of the late [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] son and [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] daughter-in-law. Using music was the main way he’s coped but he and [name_f]Celine[/name_f] never underestimate their own grief. He reacts to disaster with fear and holds his feelings in more than [name_f]Celine[/name_f], but later he would let them out, a reason why his family never assumes he’s unaffected if he doesn’t show right away. People who don’t know [name_u]Jerry[/name_u] have assumed he’s a sociopath, especially given his brother’s troublemaking ways, but he doesn’t let the past in Catholic school define him. He helped [name_f]Celine[/name_f] through her panic attack at the time they realised their son and daughter-in-law passed away. However, [name_u]Jerry[/name_u] himself would have one a few months ago in which [name_f]Celine[/name_f] would have to comfort him from.

Teaching [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] piano felt like a gift, especially since it’s not just him who loves music, but [name_f]Celine[/name_f] as well, being a retired music teacher at school. [name_u]Jerry[/name_u] only ever learned piano but he has found joy in it. He’s made musical pieces but doesn’t consider it something he’s trying to get famous in. He claims he would have gotten famous a long time ago if he wanted but he’s not too old for success, knowing there’s people who are older and found success later in life. Outside of teaching piano to [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], he’s also trying to help sweet [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] find friends and feel like she belongs more in her family. He has strongly supported Diamantia getting support and wanted her to quit smoking, especially feeling his personal past as a troublemaker with a much more troublemaking brother. Still, he knows [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] deserves a chance to feel special and respected as well and does what he can for his youngest granddaughter.
