I am back for yet another comprehensive list of names pertaining to a particular topic. For the fourth segment in my series, we will be exploring [name_m]Charming[/name_m] Creatures.

Please note that I will be leaving out popular names, or atleast names that are well-known on the forums, such as [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] or [name_m]Wolf[/name_m]. I am going to keep the format simple and not go deep into detail. For now, here’s a look at some of the names I’ve gathered:


  • [name_f]Ani[/name_f] - U - “species of tropical bird.”

Belonging to the cuckoo family.

  • Aqissiaq - U - “ptarmigan chick”

[name_m]North[/name_m] and Western Greenlandic in origin. Credit to @Johannaa

  • Arini - F - “parrot”

Tribe of neotropical parrots that includes macaws and parakeets.

  • Cairina - F - “the musky one from Cairo”

The Muscovy duck’s genus name.

  • Cassida - F - “genus of beetles”

Latin in origin. Belonging to the genus of tortoise beetles. Credit to @/Johanna.

  • Chelidon - M - “swallow”

Greek in origin.

  • Claravis - F - “dove”

Genus of neotropical doves, the blue ground dove. This is also the name of an acne treatment.

  • [name_m]Crane[/name_m] - M - “long-necked bird”

The Demoiselle Cranes are the smallest crane species while the Sarus Cranes are the tallest.

  • Cygnet - U - “baby swan”

See also: [name_m]Cygnus[/name_m], the name for the swan constellation.

  • [name_m]Falcon[/name_m] - M - “bird of prey”

Scientific name is [name_m]Falco[/name_m], originating from Latin.

  • [name_f]Feather[/name_f] - U - “plumage”

Other names that mean ‘feather’: [name_m]Mîhkokwan[/name_m] (M - Cree), [name_f]Miu[/name_f] (F - Japanese), [name_m]Shikoba[/name_m] (M - Choctaw).

  • [name_m]Heron[/name_m] - M - “hero”

Also the name of [name_m]Saint[/name_m] [name_m]Heron[/name_m] and [name_m]Heron[/name_m] of [name_f]Alexandria[/name_f]. Herons are long-legged freshwater and coastal birds. Agamia and Nyctanassa are some genus names.

  • Kanara - F - “canary”

Hebrew in origin.

  • [name_f]Laraline[/name_f] - F - “seagull”

Latin in origin.

  • Loriini - F - “parrots”

Tribe of Australasian parrots. Lorius is another genus.

  • Melidora - F - “halcyon”

Belonging to the hook-billed kingfisher.

  • Paschalitsa - F - “ladybug”

Greek in origin. Credit to @tallemaja

  • Salvadorina - F - “salvadori’s teal”

Type of duck from [name_m]New[/name_m] Guinea.

  • Tapayaxi - M - “toad”

Nahuatl in origin. Credit to @/Johanna

  • UainĂ­n - F - “lamb”

[name_f]Irish[/name_f] in origin. Credit to @the_common_fool

  • Volungė - F - “oriole”

Lithuanian in origin. Credit to @/Johanna

  • [name_f]Walela[/name_f] - F - “hummingbird”

[name_m]Cherokee[/name_m] in origin. Credit to @/the_common_fool

  • [name_m]Whistler[/name_m] - M - “piper”

Australian songbird. [name_m]Rufous[/name_m] and [name_m]Golden[/name_m] are also names belonging to Whistlers.

Thank you for this list! I love Cairina, Chelidon, [name_m]Heron[/name_m], Melidora and Paschalitsa.

[name_m]Veer[/name_m] is a rare unisex [name_m]Dutch[/name_m] name that also means ‘feather’.
