Hazel Miriam Abbott (29) is Lars’s’ very recent fiance, sister to Chris and sister-in-law of Vienna. Vivacious, gregarious and very much a people person, Hazel was often perceived as the leader when interacting with her brother, solely because she had the louder voice and more direct personality. The dynamic between the siblings was much more even in footing than people assumed: Chris very much was the voice of reason whereas Hazel prefers living in the moment, and they’d function as a duo, encouraging one another while tempering in the same breath - something their parents joke about appreciating now the pair are adults.
It was during her gap year following graduation that Hazel realised she wanted to become involved in relief work. She became involved in said projects while travelling between school and college, where the need for medics in the charitable world struck Hazel quickly, and after some deliberation - namely if she felt able to handle the academic pressure (something Hazel typically avoids) - she was certain she wanted to help provide the much needed assistance.
In comparison to Chris, Hazel has experienced spottier relationships prior to meeting Lars. Her past partners could find her a bit disorganised and she has poor time management outside of her work, arriving late for dates and having to reschedule last minute frequently, which always left Hazel feeling guilty as she knew why it annoyed people. Lars was the only person who actually gave her the time to improve on this though, instead of deciding she ‘wasn’t trying hard enough’ - thanks to her devotion to her job - and it’s made her strive to help him see how absolutely she adores him; being someone who prefers using actions to show her affection (surprise gifts!).
To no-one’s surprise, Hazel’s a devoted aunt to Chris and Vienna’s children, forever playing games with them and having all the energy needed by the couple if they want a relaxing date night that isn’t followed up by excited children. Hazel knows she wants children herself some day but is content to wait until her and Lars are as settled as her brother and dear friend, as the last thing she wants is to rush into such a major decision: a maturity people don’t always recognise about her.
