My husband want to name our first daughter: “[name_f]Samantha[/name_f]”
I like the name “[name_f]Silvia[/name_f]”
Since our mothers are [name_f]Silvia[/name_f] and [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] the name my husband pick is: “[name_f]Samantha[/name_f] [name_f]Silvia[/name_f] [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f]”
The name that I pick is “[name_f]Silvia[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]”
Please help us decide the right name for our baby girl!!
I vote [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] or [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] hope you win. [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] sounds dated/overused to me
I’m neutral about both names, [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] is not used here but did/does seem to be quite popular, [name_f]Silvia[/name_f] is used here but very dated while it seems fresher in most English-speaking countries, so I’m not partial to either.
However, I do think what your husband is trying to do, including both your favourites and both mothers’ names (so one doesn’t feel left out), isn’t a bad idea. I think either going with your husband’s choice or making yours [name_f]Silvia[/name_f] [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] and going with that one, might make everyone relatively happy (naming is compromising).
Now we can’t help you choose the first name, we can tell you which one we prefer ([name_f]Silvia[/name_f] will win when asking Nameberries) but in the end, you and your husband have to make that choice.
Maybe you can find a new name you both like and then put your mothers’ names as middles?!
If you don’t like [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] and he doesn’t like [name_f]Silvia[/name_f], then it’s time to go back to the drawing board and find a name that you BOTH like.
I’m not a fan of [name_f]Silvia[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] (too much Ss, too much As), but I also think that [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] [name_f]Silvia[/name_f] [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] is way too big!
I agree with @wildsyringa - if you don’t like [name_f]Samantha[/name_f], and he doesn’t want [name_f]Silvia[/name_f] up front, then it’s better to keep looking for something you BOTH love. Personally, I adore [name_f]Silvia[/name_f], and would love to meet a little [name_f]Silvia[/name_f], but I also agree that [name_f]Silvia[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] doesn’t flow the best. Both beautiful names, but the sounds are too repetitive for me. I think [name_f]Silvia[/name_f] [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] is really pretty, or even [name_f]Silvia[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]. [name_f]Silvia[/name_f] [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] is my favorite option, but if one of you isn’t thrilled with it, I agree that you should keep looking.
I agree with previous posters, [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] or _____ [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] (be sure to pick a name you both love, maybe something shorter than [name_f]Samantha[/name_f]). Good luck!
You can’t name the baby after one grandma and not the other, or there will be hurt and resentment. It’s either [name_f]Silvia[/name_f] [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f], [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] [name_f]Silvia[/name_f], or names that neither grandma has, such as [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] [name_f]Samantha[/name_f].
Have you or your husband ever read the [name_u]Shel[/name_u] Silverstein poem “[name_f]Sarah[/name_f] [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] Stout Would Not Take the Garbage Out”? Its a really great poem and I recommend it. Well anyway, upon reading [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] [name_f]Silvia[/name_f] [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] I thought immediately of the poem. Weather that’s a good or bad thing I can’t tell. I like [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] all be it a little over used. [name_f]Silvia[/name_f] is not my taste, sounding [name_m]WAY[/name_m] to 1930’s to me. I’d rather use it as a middle name then a first name. [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] is also not at the top of my list. [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] [name_f]Silvia[/name_f] [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f], while a mouth full and not my style is definitely my favorite option. It has a current first name, and two middle names that honor BOTH grandmothers. [name_f]Silvia[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] only honors one and the names sound and look far to similar to each other.
I
agree w lu brasil and wildsyringa. [name_f]Silvia[/name_f] vs samantha are close enough i think u can find a compromise name. Both start with s, are feminine, and end in an A.
[name_m]How[/name_m] do you feel about [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] or [name_f]Sandra[/name_f]?
Are you ever planning on having another? If #2 is a girl, thats easy. And if #2 is a boy, [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] and [name_m]Silvio[/name_m] are male forms of those names… Unless you’d want to honor the chikd’s grandfathers (?).
[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Savannah[/name_f]/[name_f]Savanna[/name_f] to honor [name_f]Silvia[/name_f]? Then [name_f]Cate[/name_f] or [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] to honor [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f]. That way neither mom gets her exact name but both get a similar name as a nod.
[name_f]Savannah[/name_f] [name_f]Cate[/name_f] or [name_f]Savanna[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is so cute.
I prefer [name_f]Silvia[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]. I dislike [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] and I neither like nor dislike [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f].
I much prefer [name_f]Silvie[/name_f] to [name_f]Silvia[/name_f]. [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] is quite nice. [name_f]Kate[/name_f], [name_f]Katharine[/name_f], [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f], [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] are all nice names. I also like [name_u]Sasha[/name_u], [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f], [name_f]Cheryl[/name_f] & [name_f]Alisha[/name_f]…( just thought I’d throw that in )
I loveeee the name [name_f]Silvia[/name_f], but agree that [name_f]Silvia[/name_f] [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] doesn’t flow very well. [name_f]Silvia[/name_f] [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] is wonderful. Alternatively you could go for something like
I agree with @wildsyringa. If you don’t like [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] and he doesn’t like [name_f]Silvia[/name_f], then it might be time to find a new name unless one is actually willing to compromise.
If I had to choose between [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] [name_f]Silvia[/name_f] [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] or [name_f]Silvia[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] I would chose [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] [name_f]Silvia[/name_f] [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] only because I don’t think [name_f]Silvia[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] sounds good together. I think [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] [name_f]Silvia[/name_f] [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] is a little much but prefer it over [name_f]Silvia[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]…Sorry.
I like [name_f]Silvia[/name_f] [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f].
