Off topic, but New User here!

Hello! It’s Psalm46! My name is [name_m]Josiah[/name_m]. I’m a new user here! I have several questions about the site.

1 I used to use Behind the [name_m]Name[/name_m] forums but I left as the other users were very unwelcoming and constantly mocked me. Behind the [name_m]Name[/name_m] had a forum for posting writing pieces and one for off topic posts. Are there such forums here?

2 How can you add a new picture to your profile?

3 why do some posta not get responses?

4 HIs there a limit on posts?

5 What posts are taboo here?

Thank you and [name_m]God[/name_m] bless,

[name_m]Josiah[/name_m]

Welcome, [name_m]Josiah[/name_m]! :blossom: I will try to answer your questions to the best of my knowledge and ability…

  1. For writing pieces: there is a thread where you can share excerpts, and another to talk about your story (it is currently inactive, but feel free to bump it!) however, I would be very interested in having a place to share longer pieces. Consider creating a thread in the Writers’ Corner?
  • For off-topic posts: Trust Level 3 users gain access to a “secret” part of the forum called the Lounge, which contains a general chat and other off-topic corners.

  1. Sadly, it is not possible at the moment. Whether or not this feature will be brought back remains to be seen.

  1. Oh, these are actually quite rare! However, posts with unclear or extremely specific requests may be less likely to attract attention?

  1. Not as far as I am aware—if there is one, it must be quite high, haha!

  1. Here is a link to the Forum Rules.

Have yourself a lovely day or evening depending on your time zone, and I hope you will like it here! :sun:

Behind the [name_m]Name[/name_m] has a lounge too! I mostly used it for talking about food and movies, however some users posted serious questions. I unfortunately was banned from it as it was a very close nit community and they thought my posts were silly and I was obsessive.

I will probably rarely use it if I am able too.

i would say berries tend to avoid topics that may be polarizing or controversial. or very short topics with little information. overall most posts get at least a few responses though!

definitely review the forum rules that wendy posted, but more generally, avoid talking too in depth about topics such as politics and religion. i find it’s best to keep nameberry a friendly and neutral space  also, avoid talking about other users’ names harshly. constructive criticism is great, however speaking in broad terms (like “i hate it”) usually isn’t received well or welcome here. nameberry is an extremely supportive community!

[name_m]Welcome[/name_m] to Nameberry! I’d agree with what everyone else has said for your questions.

My only additional response for this is that sometimes if a post is a poll, people will vote in the poll but may not also comment unless they have more thoughts to share.

  1. I believe there is a writing forum but there is no off-topic forum anymore.
  2. It used to be possible but not anymore.
  3. They are not interesting enough for people to respond or maybe you’re asking about very niche topics and not giving enough context e.g. making threads about very obscure names that most people don’t know how to pronounce and not explaining the pronunciation.
  4. No idea.
  5. Religion, politics and profanity are typically not allowed.
  1. There is a limit to editing posts (I think it’s 20 per 24 hour period, but don’t quote me on that number). Also, there is a limit to how many likes per 24 hour period as well, but it is pretty high (I only hit it when I go through months of replies on a thread at a time).
Otherwise, I don’t know of any limits for number of posts… the system will gently remind you to let other people reply in a topic if you do three or more posts in a row.
