Talk About Your Story

Hey! This is just a discussion thread. Come here to vent about your story, ask questions, post excerpts to get feedback (or not), and just discuss your writing.

Hi! I’m gonna vent, then ask a question

Ever since school started, I feel like I’ve had no time to write. I’ve been getting great inspiration but between my homework and my social life, it’s hard to just sit down and write out everything that’s come to me. I just wish I could.

My question for everyone here:
What are some over done fantasy tropes? ([name_f]My[/name_f] novel is a fantasy one, and it has a few put together, but I want to make sure they’re not all super common and annoying)

I totally get that. I really suck at verbalizing my inspiration and thoughts.

Okay, well, personally, I kind of find the ‘dead parents’ thing a little overdone in fantasy. That and the innocent little sibling/overprotective older sibling dynamic.

I know the feeling, it’s hard to write when you get swamped with work left, right, and center (especially the work that makes you tired of looking at words/the screen), but I hope it gets better for you!

While it’s not a bad thing, I find the “new-found-power” and “spontanious adventure that no one planned” tropes a bit overdone. And also the fact that every character the MC meets (I find this mostly with fem MCs but sometimes male MCs too) gets really protective over the MC.

Like, honestly, I’ve known some people from birth, and they wouldn’t hesitate to spill my tea

Here’s what I wrote on another “talk about your story” thread.
What do you think?

Yea same, most of my clostest friend would jump at the chance to show/tell people about my most embarrasing moments

Wow, that’s really awesome! Please tell us when you release this I would read the heck it of it!!

[name_m]Just[/name_m] a suggestion if you didn’t already do this: Maybe somewhere in the story you should mention that pixies have no genes so that people don’t just think it’s incest.
The pixie thing is honestly so cool tho, most of the myth creatures I read about (forgot which ones) don’t have genes as well!

For the chapter, there’s still some typos but you can fix that easily

Yeah. The typos are because I was typing from a notebook, looking at the notebook and typing into the NB chat. As for the genes thing, I am going to do a “pixie rundown” when [name_f]Zoie[/name_f] and [name_f]Becka[/name_f] meet Lessy and [name_f]Ila[/name_f]. [name_f]Ila[/name_f]’s going to give a very matter-of-fact, straight-faced rundown on pixies. Something like “As you can see, we’re the size of your foot. We don’t have genes, which is how our mothers and fathers are… not Cryos. Lessy can explain Talents to you later because I don’t want to, all you need to know is that I can do this freezes something somewhere, idk yet. Nymphs and Gnomes are real too, but Nymphs are like enhanced Hydros and Gnomes are rare and don’t have pointy hats. Get it?”

I just remembered that I wanted to ask a question too!

I’m writing this short story (less than 1000 words), about a fae finding out that he’s half human, there’s no new found powers, he already knows that he’s different, but just doesn’t know why.

What do you think of that idea?

Edit: Took out some questions I already found the answers to!

I think that’s kind of cool. You could parallel that to a discovery of bisexuality or something, if you really wanted to, too.

Okay, so two things.

First of all, do you think that two sisters could be close besides being at polar opposites of the political spectrum?

And, second, how soon do you have to disclose a relationship to your job if it’s an office relationship?

  1. Of course they could! If they have other things to bond over of course, the difference in political views might lead to some fights and arguments, but I feel like it’ll add more depth to their relationship! Well unless if one or both of the sisters think that their political view is their life, then it might be more complicated.

  2. It honestly depends on the relationship and the work place relationship policy, I’ll assume that they allow relationships: if the 2 dating are good friends and wouldn’t be bothered with a break up and the office knows it too then pretty soon would be okay, if not maybe until they know what they want they shouldn’t tell anyone at the job.

Hope this helps!

Okay, so, I’m not sure if anyone else does this, but I kind of write fanfics about my characters, too. Like, the story I’m writing is their backstory and how they got together, but I do things after their engagement, and I write AU fanfics and stuff like that.

Anyone else?

Omg! I know exactly what you mean! I’m basically writing fanfics for characters in a fanfic :joy:

I got myself into this Madam Secretary AU, but I can’t decide who’s gonna be the Secretary.

I might end up making a book of just AUs after I’m done writing :joy: For either my novel or my fanfiction. Or both

I started writing my fanfics before my story lol. I’m going to have to start a new collection soon though, because Quotev has a 250 chapter limit and I’m at 199.

Nice :joy: I have Quotev too, but I majorly use Wattpad instead
