Recommend a girl name!

That kind of ‘‘ay’’ sound doesn’t really exist in Greek names. A is always pronounced ‘ah’, so it’s dah-NAH-ee, I would know!

We have an [name_f]Elvire[/name_f] in the family ([name_u]French[/name_u]: el-VEER) So beautiful!

Never heard of that, so pretty!! I’m definitely adding it to my list now <3

Not doubting you, just sad! I love my pronunciation and will stick to it, which is fine because I don’t know any Danaes so no harm done.

I knew a student with that name decades ago, but she pronounced it the way I think of it as. Of course we are a long way from Greece!

I’ll update this when I can access the database again following all the updates

That’s awesome, thank you!

Clarimond

Clarimond is what I want to suggest to those who want to name their daughter [name_f]Claire[/name_f], but worry about how frequently it is used. [name_f]Claire[/name_f] could be its nn, but so could [name_f]Claret[/name_f], [name_f]Clary[/name_f], Clairie, [name_f]Lara[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], and probably others.

I love how self-contained [name_f]Clarimond[/name_f] is, now tidily it ends.

It strikes me as elegant without being frou-frou.

Marjorie is lovely. I can’t wait to hopefully use her one day!

I think [name_f]Chiara[/name_f] is also a lovely name - very sweet with just the perfect number of syllables making it neither too short or too long, and I think it would go so well with both modern and traditional middle names :relaxed:

Greer. I know half of nameberry hates it, but this is the hill I’ve chosen to die on.

It’s simple, sleek, easy to spell, fits into multiple name themes (surnames, old Hollywood, preppy, etc), and is uncommon while still being easily recognizable. It’s perfect.

Totally with you on [name_f]Greer[/name_f]! :star_struck: I also like [name_u]Grier[/name_u].

Delphine or [name_f]Daphne[/name_f].
I feel like you don’t get a lot of feminine D names that are popular now (maybe [name_f]Darcie[/name_f]?) and I like that they are vintage but would still be sweet on a young girl. [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] is my favourite, I just think it sounds really spunky and wouldn’t need a nn.

Liesl! [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and all her variations are so perennially popular, but [name_f]Liesl[/name_f] has somehow been forgotten. The sound is lovely, and it would be a great honor name for an [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].

Also Talita! Mostly I still can’t believe it isn’t on nameberry. Talita (also spelled [name_f]Talitha[/name_f] and Thalita, all pronounced the same way) is an extremely popular name in [name_u]Brazil[/name_u], especially in the 1990s. According to the 2010 census there were 140,000 people named Talita or one of its variant spellings in [name_u]Brazil[/name_u]! Talita is pronounced tah-LEET-ah (I am terrible at phonic spelling, I apologize). [name_u]Tali[/name_u] is the most common nickname. The origin of the name is Aramaic, where it means “little girl”. In the new testament [name_m]Jesus[/name_m] restored a young girl to life, saying the phrase talitha cumi, meaning “little girl arise”.

@katinka I appreciate you starting with [name_f]Valerie[/name_f]! Such an under appreciated name. I also like [name_f]Valeria[/name_f], although I can’t decide if I would ever use it. I recently saw a nameberry post that suggested [name_f]Valencia[/name_f] as a swap for [name_f]Valentina[/name_f], and I love that too! [name_f]Valencia[/name_f] would just be the most gorgeous name.

Dauphine! I’ve been crushing on this one lately and I like the similar sounds it has to [name_u]Berry[/name_u] favourites [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] and [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]. I also think that the [name_u]French[/name_u] royalty connection makes it seem so elegant and fairytale-esque.

I was on the forum to take a short break from looking for character names. Now I’m seriously considering Dauphine for a character, thanks!!!

It’s so pretty, isn’t it? Never considered Dauphine as a name before, I think it could work, although there is quite a lot of historical baggage.

Ida!

Short, sweet and easy to spell. Fits into the vintage/grandma names that are becoming in style again. It was my dads aunts name, who I hear was a wonderful lady ([name_f]My[/name_f] middle name, [name_f]Ilana[/name_f], is after her). [name_f]Ida[/name_f] can also work with a variety of middle names!

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Ida[/name_f]! A cousin of my husband’s has an [name_f]Ida[/name_f] J0sephine — so lovely.

My name is [name_f]Rosenwyn[/name_f]! In the wild I’ve had only positive feedback on it, I mainly go by [name_u]Wyn[/name_u] but my family call me [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]!
