Occasionally, I’ll get a name stuck in my head. I know it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, but basically, sometimes some name will stick out that I don’t even remember reading or hearing and it will glue itself in my brain and I’ll just keep repeating it for a long time before I even start to figure out where it came from. This doesn’t happen all that often, because usually I have a song stuck in my head (https://forum.nameberry.com/t/what-song-is-stuck-in-your-head/341856?u=otter.on.ice), but sometimes there’s one name that just won’t go away and then it starts to sound weird.
Usually, the kinds of names that get stuck in my head are author’s names that I absentmindedly read on the spines of my books. And then I have no idea where they came from until I look at my bookshelf. Last night I had a name in my head ([name_f]Josephine[/name_f] or [name_f]Josepha[/name_f] [name_f]Ermentrude[/name_f]) that might be from @anon68906791’s user card— I still don’t know if that’s accurate, lemme check edit: yes! [name_f]Josepha[/name_f] [name_f]Ermentrude[/name_f] is on Poppy’s UC!! haha
Anyway, sorry for the weird post. If you don’t have any names stuck in your head or think that’s totally crazy, that’s fine, I’m crazy too .
I know right, even if you have no connection to the names and/or they’re super weird, your brain just keeps chanting them and chanting them, I mean maybe they have an interesting or distinctive sound or something, idk. It’s really weird.
I remember a couple years ago (when I was first collecting names), I had the name [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] stuck in my head after hearing the name in two movies that I watched in the same night. About a year later, I had a dream relating to the name [name_m]Harris[/name_m], and it got stuck in my head throughout the next day. I would say/read the name in my head and maybe even mutter it to myself. When that happens, I would usually move the name up my list. I definitely know the feeling!
I get names stuck in my head all the time! Right now its Heathan (the name of a character in a rather droll book, but the name is sooo interesting to me), Medusa (why do I love this so much? Its beautiful and I personally think the mythos behind it is just as awesome. If [name_f]Lilith[/name_f] and [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] can be used, why not Medusa?), the sister-set [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] and [name_f]Elestren[/name_f] (I just love how matchy they are, in sound, meaning, and origin), the sibset [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] (boy), [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] (boy), and [name_u]Thyme[/name_u] (girl) (again, the match gets me, I want to write a short story about them), the combos [name_u]Sabbath[/name_u] [name_u]Orion[/name_u] [name_u]Poe[/name_u] (boy), [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] [name_u]Hallow[/name_u] [name_f]Selene[/name_f] (girl), [name_f]Nyx[/name_f] [name_u]November[/name_u] [name_u]Cielo[/name_u] (boy), [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m] [name_m]Bram[/name_m] [name_u]Sparrow[/name_u] (boy), [name_f]Hecate[/name_f] Silena [name_u]Owl[/name_u] (girl) (I blame the upcoming Spooky season for these) , and the combo [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] [name_f]Noella[/name_f]. And I also keep trying to push the names [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] and [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f] on all the people I know having a baby or TTC I love those names and I want people to use them, but I don’t like them enough to ever want to use them for myself and I cannot get them out of my head.
I do find that names of characters I like tend to get stuck in my head very easily (and a lot of those are now on my short list) and I also like very mood-specific names and combos and I play with those a LOT.
I remember someone discussing the name [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] [name_u]Snow[/name_u] on here aaaages ago and sometimes it pops into my head and I can’t gef over how pretty and dainty it sounds.
I’ve only just got over daydreaming about [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Bluebell[/name_f].
Edith. I was reading a review of a recent book called Exciting Times and one of the characters is called [name_f]Edith[/name_f]. I then saw [name_f]Edith[/name_f] again a few days somewhere later and all of a sudden, after not liking it previously (although I love [name_f]Edie[/name_f]), it really appeals to me. Also, [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f].
This happens to me more with words when I’m learning a language, but [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]’s been on my mind all day. I’m revamping my list, spotted [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] in my huge list of possibilities, and latched on. She very well might make it to my list this time.
It used to happen regularly with [name_f]Helena[/name_f], [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], [name_f]Zara[/name_f], and [name_f]Rachel[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] for long periods of time (like MONTHS). I don’t even like [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], really, though, and [name_f]Helena[/name_f] I don’t think I’d use, but I do find it fascinating how something like that happens.
Names on the brain 24/7 Tonight I am really thinking about Uainín (oo’a neen). So cute I honestly am overwhelmed. How cute would a rhymey middle be too-- Uainín [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], a name that rollerskates.
