A Lot Can Happen In Sixty Years - Part 2

Part 1 is here: A Lot Can Happen In Sixty Years - Part 1
Building a Life Together
This section applies to the first ten years of your marriage. The whole thing will be repeated ten times to get ten years’ worth of events.
A Note if You’re Playing as a [name_u]Gay[/name_u] Couple:
Any planned pregnancies rolled can be replaced with adoption or treated as being from surrogacy, IVF, etc. Unplanned children are trickier. If you roll to have an unplanned birth and are playing as a gay couple, roll a d4 on the table below:

  1. A family member gets unexpectedly pregnant and is not prepared to raise a child. They ask you and your partner if you will adopt the child. If neither of you have any siblings, this can be a cousin.
  2. One of your children befriends a child at school who turns out to be in foster care. They grow close to your family and you end up adopting them. In this case, the kid will be the same age as one of your school-aged children, and if the roll is for multiples, roll the others as siblings who can be any age. If you don’t have any school aged children, treat this as a roll of 4.
  3. The biological parent of a child you’ve adopted in the past gets pregnant again and gets in contact with you asking if you’ll adopt again in hopes that this child can be raised with their sibling. If you have no adopted children, treat this as a roll of 1.
  4. You volunteer as short-term foster parents during a period of a few months and are matched with a kid who is between long-term placements and waiting for an adoptive family. You end up adopting them. [name_m]Roll[/name_m] a d12 and add 5 to get their age, and if the roll is for multiples, roll the others as siblings who can be any age.

Family Plot:
[name_m]Roll[/name_m] a d20 twice and add the results together to get an event on this table.

  1. (It’s impossible to get a one.)
  2. You have quintuplets. [name_m]Roll[/name_m] a d6 for each child, and all 6es are identical. Then roll each child in the [name_m]New[/name_m] Children section. (Plan is your choice.) Names are from here: Top names of the 1880s
  3. Your house catches fire and you have to move. Reroll on location table C (if you get the same result as before, assume it’s a different part of the city or rural or suburban town than where you already live.) Additionally, roll a d6 for each family member to see how they were effected. 1 – Moving schools or workplaces is difficult for this family member, but fortunately they’ve managed to make a friend in the new place (with a name from here): 144 Baby Names from Books | Nameberry 2 – They lose something important to them in the fire, such as a journal or a project they’ve worked hard on. 3 – The stress of the situation causes them to feel ignored. Children respond by doing something rebellious. Adults find that this puts a strain on their relationship, treat as a roll of 13. 4 – They were in the house then the fire happened, and although they have at most minor injuries, they struggle afterwards to cope with what they experienced. 5 – They were seriously, although not life-threateningly, injured in the fire. 6 – They have a near-death experience, whether they survive is up to you.

Also I’ve been working on this for hours today and hours yesterday, is another reason they are simplified.) When they reach adulthood also roll a career or choose one based on existing interests, and roll location starting at table 3. Update Now, if you prefer, you can use the teen and adult tables I made for part 3, found here: A Lot Can Happen In Sixty Years - Part 3 - #2 by vfrn

If they’re already married, you can choose to treat this as a roll for a child.)
  2. New friend, name here, 20 rerolls: http://springhole.net/writing_roleplaying_randomators/victoriannames.htm
  3. For adults, have a child. For teens, roll a d12 and on a 12 have a child. Name here: http://www.babycenter.com/0_baby-names-inspired-by-awesome-80s-movies_10305354.bc
  4. Adults receive a promotion, teens get a part-time job.

  7. New hobby (choose).
  8. Disability or mental illness.

After getting here, increase everyone’s age by one and go back to the top to roll new events for the new year, until it’s been ten years since you started.

Reaching year ten without having any children should be very unlikely, but if it does happen, your family has quadruplets on the tenth year. Names from here: 125 Baby Names Headed for Harvard | Nameberry

Year One
Within our first year of marriage, we register with an adoption agency, not expecting to find a match super quickly, since there are long waiting lists. However, in [name_f]February[/name_f], we are contacted because an adoption plan in our area fell through when the prospective parents changed their mind shortly before the baby was due, and they need to find someone else. In early [name_u]March[/name_u], our birth mother delivers an adorable baby girl, who we name [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] [name_f]Ciel[/name_f] [name_u]Harper[/name_u]-[name_u]Green[/name_u]. We spelled her middle name as “[name_f]Ciel[/name_f]” in case she wants plausible deniability about being named after a video game character. In [name_f]May[/name_f], I graduate from college and get a job as an IT tech at a medium company, and [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] finishes her master’s program and starts teaching full time.

Year Two
In the summer of the following year, [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]‘s family takes a trip to [name_m]Washington[/name_m] D.C. to visit the Smithsonian museums, and they invite us and [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] along. She’s too young to appreciate a lot of the historical and scientific significance, of course, but she loves the kids’ activity rooms, and the infant fish event thing.

Year Three
Now that [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] is older, we decide it would be a good idea to have another child, this time biologically. [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] carries him, and in [name_u]June[/name_u] she gives birth to a sweet little boy. Unfortunately, he is upside down and has to be born by an emergency c-section. We name him [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] [name_m]Caradoc[/name_m] [name_u]Harper[/name_u]-[name_u]Green[/name_u], and in personality, he definitely takes after his Mama, [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]. We discover his cat allergy early on, on a visit to his auntie [name_f]Amy[/name_f] with her little kitten. Also, two year old [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] swallowed a dime this year, and had to have an x-ray.

Year Four

With the kids both getting bigger, but still small enough to need a lot of attention, most of the time [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] and I get to ourselves is in the evening, after they start sleeping. We end up getting interested in stargazing and start learning the constellations and stuff. They’re all really pretty. [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] starts preschool this year, and she really loves it, but struggles a lot with her letters and pre-reading skills. We try to support her learning by reading to her a lot and taking her to the library, and she really enjoys this and gets excited acting out the stories. Meanwhile, [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] is getting more teeth, which becomes an issue when he bites another kid, Livius, at the playground. Luckily, young Livius wasn’t badly hurt, and we’re working on teaching [name_m]Griff[/name_m] to play gently.

Year Five
We had been asked to keep an eye on certain aspects of [name_m]Griffin[/name_m]'s development after his complicated birth, and early this year, his diagnosis of cerebral palsy, affecting primarily his legs, is confirmed. He starts using a little ZipZac wheelchair and a walker (both now covered in [name_u]Mickey[/name_u] Mouse stickers) and will probably switch from the walker to crutches when he’s old enough to have the balance for it. That said, we had fun on our vacation when [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] was a baby, but now that both of our kids mobile and talking, we want to take a trip they’ll be old enough to participate in. We manage to find a good deal on on a vacation rental in Rehoboth [name_m]Beach[/name_m], Delaware (the town from [name_m]Steven[/name_m] Universe!). We have a lot of fun! When we get back, [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] starts her second year of preschool, and she adores her new class and immediately makes two new friends, [name_f]Gabriella[/name_f] [name_u]Peyton[/name_u] and [name_u]Brett[/name_u] [name_m]Giles[/name_m]. [name_u]Gabby[/name_u] in particular, though, is really into dinosaurs, and describes them to [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] rather dramatically in her enthusiasm. [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] starts having nightmares until we are able to convince her that a T. rex is not going to eat her up.

Year Six
With both of the kids in school now, we decide to have another baby. Because of the difficulties with [name_m]Griffin[/name_m]'s birth, we decide that I will carry this one. In [name_u]November[/name_u], I give birth to a sweet little girl. We end up really liking the name [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Rosa[/name_f], and although we have some concerns about technically sort of naming a kid after ourselves, we decide it’s fine, because after all that is a thing people do on purpose sometimes, and it’s not like it’s our exact names. She takes after her Mommy as much as [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] takes after his Mama, and, although we won’t know it for a few years, she does inherit my autism. She was born a bit smaller than usual, but not enough so to be dangerous.

Year [name_u]Seven[/name_u]
This year, we unexpectedly grow our family by two more. [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] makes friends with a boy at school, [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_m]Ignatius[/name_m] “[name_m]Ben[/name_m]” [name_u]Ashton[/name_u]. He starts spending a lot of time at our house, and we learn that he and his sister [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] “[name_f]Cassie[/name_f]” are in foster care and looking for an adoptive family. We hadn’t thought much about older child adoption before, but we started looking into it and considering the possibility of adopting the [name_u]Ashton[/name_u] kids. Everyone involved is excited when [name_m]Ben[/name_m] and [name_f]Cassie[/name_f] finally join our family. Their birthdays are in [name_u]June[/name_u] and [name_f]September[/name_f], respectively. Shortly after the adoption, [name_m]Ben[/name_m] got meningitis and had to be in the hospital for a while. After watching [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] make a friend who became a new sibling, [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] decided he wanted to do the same, and invented an imaginary friend called [name_m]Zayden[/name_m] for this purpose. [name_m]Zayden[/name_m] soon evolved into a general-purpose imaginary friend. Meanwhile, as little [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] grows and her personality develops, she ends up having a lot in common with her Auntie [name_f]Amy[/name_f], although not as extraverted, and the two grow close.

Year Eight
This year [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] was in a minor car accident, but luckily nothing bad happened. [name_f]Cassie[/name_f] has been doing really well in her English class at school, and really likes writing, especially short stories. [name_m]Ben[/name_m], meanwhile, has been getting interested in poetry. [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] is growing close to his older sister [name_f]Cassie[/name_f], as they both have a thoughtful way of looking at the world.

Year Nine
Now that [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] is in preschool, we decide to have just one more kid, who I will carry. However, this doesn’t go as planned, because in [name_f]February[/name_f], I give birth to sweet little fraternal twin girls, both born on the small side, which is common with twins. We name them [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Ciara[/name_f]. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is autistic, like me. [name_m]Ben[/name_m] starts to struggle in his science class this year, so we get him a tutor to help him get more practice. Poor [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] gets appendicitis and spends a lot of time in the hospital this summer. [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] starts preschool this year, and makes a new friend in her class, [name_f]Serena[/name_f] [name_u]London[/name_u]. [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] develops separation anxiety, and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] develops a fear of loud noises.

Year Ten
We hadn’t planned on being able to get a cat, although we both like them, because of [name_m]Griffin[/name_m]'s allergies, but as it turned out, he was the one who really wanted one, and he did research to find out about hypoallergenic breeds and stuff in order to convince us. The rest of the family agreed and we ended up adopting a little [name_u]Devon[/name_u] [name_u]Rex[/name_u] named [name_m]Boston[/name_m]. [name_f]Cassie[/name_f]'s time spent in foster care caused her to fall behind in school from the amount of times she had to switch schools, and that catches up with her when she hits middle school and the complexity of the work increases. After looking at the possibilities, she ends up staying back a grade to give her time to catch up without putting the pressure on her of being ready for seventh grade in time. Since she was born in summer, she won’t be that much older than her new set of classmates. [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] has been spending a lot of time on the computer, but it’s not just playing games and social media. He’s begun to teach himself programming, by way of Scratch and GameMaker. [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] develops a fear of the dark. As the twins begin talking, they start talking to and about each other pretty quickly. [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] manages an approximation of “[name_f]Violet[/name_f]”, but [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is intimidated by the number of syllables in “[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]” and decides to just call her “[name_f]Sister[/name_f]”, which comes out sounding more like “[name_m]Ziggy[/name_m]”. It catches on, and soon “[name_m]Ziggy[/name_m]” is what we all call her.

She stays on crutches for several months. [name_u]Jean[/name_u] plays her first video game, which leads her to becoming a hardcore gamer for the rest of her life. [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] is soon revealed to enjoy playing with puzzles.

Year Six: In [name_f]February[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] falls pregnant once more and gives birth to twins at exactly midnight after trying. [name_f]Ciara[/name_f] develops a fear of the dark, and her brother [name_u]Colby[/name_u] comforts her, simultaneously growing closer to his twin.

Year [name_u]Seven[/name_u]: The [name_m]Foster[/name_m] family was in a brutal car accident one day when [name_u]Chris[/name_u] lost control of the Jeep and it smashed into the back of a trailer, flipping it over. While both [name_u]Chris[/name_u], [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_u]Harley[/name_u], [name_u]Jean[/name_u], [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] and [name_f]Ciara[/name_f] escaped without any serious injuries and were treated on the scene, the remaining three children were critically injured. [name_f]Wanda[/name_f] suffered a near-death experience and was immediately rushed to the hospital, where she was in stable condition but comatose. Her sister, [name_f]Lois[/name_f], nearly perished - however, doctors were able to save her life, but not her legs. She was pronounced paralysed from the waist down. [name_u]Colby[/name_u] became deaf in one ear as result of the accident. In an attempt to visit [name_f]Wanda[/name_f] in hospital, [name_u]Harley[/name_u] purposely breaks her ankle and is taken to the ER - however, she was not allowed to visit her sister. [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] gets into a fight with classmate [name_u]Wren[/name_u] when he made fun of her sister, [name_f]Lois[/name_f], in a wheelchair. While in the hospital, [name_u]Colby[/name_u] develops a fear of doctors. At the end of the year, [name_f]Wanda[/name_f] awakens from her coma and after further inspection, is free to return home.

Year Eight: [name_u]Chris[/name_u] and [name_f]Nora[/name_f] adopt two sisters from foster care - [name_f]Miranda[/name_f] [name_f]Faith[/name_f] (17, INTP) and [name_f]Carrie[/name_f] [name_u]Roy[/name_u] (13, ESTJ). Despite her near-death experience, [name_f]Wanda[/name_f] aspires to become a doctor and works hard at school. As a result, she skips a grade. [name_f]Lois[/name_f] develops a close relationship with [name_u]Colby[/name_u], finding solace in each other as they were both affected by the accident. [name_u]Harley[/name_u] goes through a rebellious phrase, blaming [name_u]Chris[/name_u] for the accident, and vandalises his study with drawings on the wall. She also begins to struggle at school, especially in Social Studies. [name_u]Jean[/name_u] continues to lean on her grandfather [name_m]Jason[/name_m] for support. [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] develops a fear of the dark, and [name_f]Ciara[/name_f] has to receive an x-ray as she swallowed a coin. [name_f]Miranda[/name_f] experiments with another boy, giving birth to a premature baby girl who she names [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] (INTJ), and raises the girl on her own. [name_f]Carrie[/name_f] takes a school trip to Limerick, [name_f]Ireland[/name_f].

Year Nine: The [name_m]Foster[/name_m] family house burns down one night, as a result of an unfortunate gas leak. [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] inhales too much smoke and cannot be revived. [name_u]Chris[/name_u] is seriously injured in the fire, and suffers second-degree burns on his back, while [name_f]Carrie[/name_f] developed breathing problems that would last the rest of her life. [name_f]Wanda[/name_f] loses her old stuffed toy, Fluttershy. After suffering from the car accident and now losing her home, the stress of the situation is too much for [name_f]Lois[/name_f] to bare. She rebels against her parents and attempts to run away, but eventually returns in tears. [name_u]Harley[/name_u] and [name_u]Jean[/name_u], who were both in the house at the time and failed to save their sister, struggle to get over what happened and gradually become more and more depressed. [name_f]Ciara[/name_f] and [name_u]Colby[/name_u] seek solace in each other, having both been in the house when it burned and both passed out from smoke - however, they were both revived. After [name_f]Tessa[/name_f]'s funeral, the family move to Brisbane, Queensland, to get away from the cursed memories of Vancouver. [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_f]Miranda[/name_f] and baby [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] develop a friendship with fellow mom [name_f]Laura[/name_f] in Brisbane, and feels less lonely. Because of recent events, [name_u]Chris[/name_u] and [name_f]Nora[/name_f]'s relationship is strained, and the two eventually move away to sort out their emotions before getting back together.

Year Ten: In [name_u]March[/name_u], [name_u]Chris[/name_u] and [name_f]Nora[/name_f] have another child who suffers from congenital heart condition, whom they name [name_f]Clarrisa[/name_f] [name_f]Tess[/name_f] (ESTP) in [name_f]Tessa[/name_f]'s honor. [name_f]Wanda[/name_f] begs for [name_f]Nora[/name_f] to have her ears pierced, and, egged on by [name_f]Laura[/name_f] and understanding what she had recently gone through, [name_f]Nora[/name_f] agrees. One day while trying out her new wheelchair, one of the wheels hit a bump and flips over, sending [name_f]Lois[/name_f] sprawling to the ground. She breaks two ribs and is rushed to the ER. [name_u]Harley[/name_u] is diagnosed with EDS. As [name_u]Jean[/name_u]'s grades slip more and more as a result of [name_f]Tessa[/name_f]'s death, [name_u]Chris[/name_u] and [name_f]Nora[/name_f] eventually pull her out of the school and start homeschooling her. [name_f]Ciara[/name_f] develops an allergy toward cats, while [name_u]Colby[/name_u] takes an interest in board games. [name_f]Miranda[/name_f] enrols in college to become a professor, while discovering that she is also a lesbian. While driving home with a friend from school, [name_f]Carrie[/name_f] is in a car accident, but is not injured. [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] develops a closer relationship with her grandma [name_f]Nora[/name_f].
