Part 1 is here: A Lot Can Happen In Sixty Years - Part 1
Building a Life Together
This section applies to the first ten years of your marriage. The whole thing will be repeated ten times to get ten years’ worth of events.
A Note if You’re Playing as a [name_u]Gay[/name_u] Couple:
Any planned pregnancies rolled can be replaced with adoption or treated as being from surrogacy, IVF, etc. Unplanned children are trickier. If you roll to have an unplanned birth and are playing as a gay couple, roll a d4 on the table below:
- A family member gets unexpectedly pregnant and is not prepared to raise a child. They ask you and your partner if you will adopt the child. If neither of you have any siblings, this can be a cousin.
- One of your children befriends a child at school who turns out to be in foster care. They grow close to your family and you end up adopting them. In this case, the kid will be the same age as one of your school-aged children, and if the roll is for multiples, roll the others as siblings who can be any age. If you don’t have any school aged children, treat this as a roll of 4.
- The biological parent of a child you’ve adopted in the past gets pregnant again and gets in contact with you asking if you’ll adopt again in hopes that this child can be raised with their sibling. If you have no adopted children, treat this as a roll of 1.
- You volunteer as short-term foster parents during a period of a few months and are matched with a kid who is between long-term placements and waiting for an adoptive family. You end up adopting them. [name_m]Roll[/name_m] a d12 and add 5 to get their age, and if the roll is for multiples, roll the others as siblings who can be any age.
Family Plot:
[name_m]Roll[/name_m] a d20 twice and add the results together to get an event on this table.
- (It’s impossible to get a one.)
- You have quintuplets. [name_m]Roll[/name_m] a d6 for each child, and all 6es are identical. Then roll each child in the [name_m]New[/name_m] Children section. (Plan is your choice.) Names are from here: Top names of the 1880s
- Your house catches fire and you have to move. Reroll on location table C (if you get the same result as before, assume it’s a different part of the city or rural or suburban town than where you already live.) Additionally, roll a d6 for each family member to see how they were effected. 1 – Moving schools or workplaces is difficult for this family member, but fortunately they’ve managed to make a friend in the new place (with a name from here): Baby Names from Books | Nameberry 2 – They lose something important to them in the fire, such as a journal or a project they’ve worked hard on. 3 – The stress of the situation causes them to feel ignored. Children respond by doing something rebellious. Adults find that this puts a strain on their relationship, treat as a roll of 13. 4 – They were in the house then the fire happened, and although they have at most minor injuries, they struggle afterwards to cope with what they experienced. 5 – They were seriously, although not life-threateningly, injured in the fire. 6 – They have a near-death experience, whether they survive is up to you.
